Chapter 124 Utterly Embarrassed

Before meeting Finnegan, Ophelia thought she was nothing more than an ordinary person among the masses.

After meeting him, she felt her life became vibrant because of him.

Even if this emotion proved to be fleeting, she felt it was worth a lifetime.

Life spans eighty years, the first twenty are spent in confusion, the last twenty unable to move, leaving forty years. Subtract half for the nights, the busy workdays, and what's left?

Even if it was just for a few days, a few months with him, it was worthwhile.

Ophelia touched the four-leaf clover pendant on her neck and asked, "Is this necklace expensive?"

If it were too costly, she feared it might attract thieves if she wore it out.

Finnegan curled his lips in a slight smile, "Not expensive, just over twenty thousand. That’s the cheapest gift I've ever given. You can't expect me to show up empty-handed on my girlfriend's birthday. This necklace is called 'Lucky in Love,' and meeting you has been my good fortune."

To Ophelia, twenty thousand was indeed a luxury. For Finnegan, it was a drop in the bucket.

There was also a card in the jewelry box.

Finnegan hadn't written too much mushy stuff, just one line. "You're the rib I had lost."

That sentiment was more touching than any passionate vow.

It implied that with Ophelia, he was finally complete.

Touched, Ophelia turned and kissed Finnegan's lips.

A hint of moisture glittered at the corner of her eyes from the emotion.

This was the first time in her life that a man had moved her to tears.

While Ophelia was being cherished by Finnegan, Niamh, on the other hand, was still pining for him.

At the birthday party...

Niamh had invited dozens of her closest friends from her circle, all of them her age and people she usually hung out with. Everyone knew that today Finnegan was supposed to come to the party, but it was already 8 PM, the birthday bash was well underway, and Finnegan was nowhere to be seen.

Niamh was feeling pretty embarrassed, and lucky for her, Celia showed up; otherwise, she would have been the butt of the joke. Who knows what others might be saying behind her back?

While Niamh received plenty of gifts, none were to her liking. What she really wanted was the four-leaf clover necklace that Finnegan bought. Throughout the dinner, Niamh was visibly disinterested, even more so after hearing from the sales associate that Finnegan had purchased the necklace to give to his girlfriend, and specifically for a birthday present today. If it wasn't meant for her, then who was it for?

Dovie approached and asked, "Niamh, we're about to cut the cake, why don't you call Finnegan and see where he's at?"

"Mom, Auntie just said that Finnegan was busy today and might not make it. Let's not wait on him. I'm going to the restroom, I'll be back in time for the cake," Niamh replied, her mood was obviously soured.

When Niamh went to the restroom, before she could come out of the stall, she overheard two of her so-called friends entering and gossiping about her.

"Niamh said Finnegan would come today, didn't she? I think she's lying. As if Finnegan would be interested in her—I don't buy it."

"Yeah, it's hilarious. Using a lie like that, now it's all backfiring. Finnegan never even showed his face, and she's talking about a proposal? That's some delusion."

"She can't even take a good look at herself in the mirror. Besides having a rich mom, what else does she have that would attract someone like Finnegan?"

"Exactly, her degrees were all bought with money. If she wasn't so generous, always playing the big spender, do you think we'd hang out with her? She really overestimates herself."

Niamh, listening from within the stall, was fuming, her face turning a fierce shade of red. However, she couldn't just come out now as that would only make things worse. After her friends left with a few more unpleasant words, Niamh emerged from the stall, her face contorted with anger.

She decided not to return to her own birthday party. She left in a huff, playing the prima donna.

When Dovie realized her daughter was gone, she tried calling her, but Niamh didn't answer, which terribly worried her.

Driving on her own, Niamh went straight for Orchid Garden, where she intended to confront people. Being coddled by Dovie her whole life, Niamh was used to getting her way, and now she was determined to get some answers from Finnegan.

When Niamh arrived at Orchid Garden, she was informed, "Miss Niamh, Mr. Abbott has not been home for several days. He's not here."

"You're trying to deceive me again. Finnegan is definitely at home," Niamh insisted as she tried to forcibly enter, causing a commotion at the doorstep.

Lina, having no other choice, reluctantly made a call to Finnegan.
After boss's baby, she Escape
