Chapter 160: Willing to Do Anything
There were letters engraved inside the wedding ring, capital letters O and F.
They were the initials of Ophelia and Finnegan's names.
This attention to detail and romance was the true value of the wedding ring.
Ophelia smiled and said, "Finnegan, every time you surprise me."
He slightly tilted his head and said in a deep voice next to her ear, "There will be more surprises in the future, my wife, look forward to it."
"I'm looking forward to it." Ophelia smiled.
The elevator opened, and the two of them held hands and went home. They were still staying in a hotel today. While other people's wedding nights lasted for a day, theirs was a honeymoon night every night.
...
Magnus dozed off on the sofa for a while and began to sober up from the alcohol.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Mrs. Riley sitting beside him.
Magnus propped himself up and said, "Mom."
"Magnus, you're awake. Are you thirsty? Do you want some water?" Mrs. Riley asked with concern.
Magnus felt a little overwhelmed by this concern because it was the first time he had experienced it since finding his biological parents.
"Mom, I'm not thirsty." Magnus rubbed his temples, leaned against the sofa, and said, "Mom, go get some rest, I'm fine."
Mrs. Riley sat beside him, watching him with a mixture of concern and love in her eyes, though not too much.
"Mom, is there something on your mind?" Magnus noticed his mother's discomfort.
Mrs. Riley reached out her aged, calloused hand to grasp Magnus's hand. Due to years of hard work, Mrs. Riley's hand was covered in thick calluses. As her hand rested on the back of Magnus's hand, he felt an indescribable sense of heartache.
In the dullness of Mrs. Riley's eyes, there was guilt towards Magnus as she said, "Magnus, how have you managed all these years? Aren't you tired from work?"
Upon hearing these two sentences, Magnus couldn't help but feel his eyes well up with tears. Finally, his biological mother was showing concern and someone was asking him how he had been all these years.
Despite the hardship he had endured, Magnus still didn't want to open up to his mother and make her worry or feel uncomfortable.
"Mom, I've been doing well all these years." Magnus forced a smile to comfort his mother. "Look at me, I've established myself in A City, my work is going smoothly, and I have many friends. You don't need to worry about me."
Magnus didn't want to burden his mother by revealing his difficulties.
Mrs. Riley reached out to touch Magnus's face. He was her biological son, and it had been over twenty years since they had been separated. She never imagined that she would see her son again in this lifetime.
After giving birth to her eldest son, Jett Cobb, every subsequent child Mrs. Riley bore was taken away by her husband, Tobias Cobb, to be sold. They weren't lost at all, but Mrs. Riley didn't dare to tell Magnus this. She didn't have the courage to do so.
For the sake of their future, and to have someone support her eldest son and granddaughter's expenses, she dared not mention it.
Tears welled up in Mrs. Riley's eyes, and her aged hands trembled slightly. As she lowered her head, tears began to fall.
"Mom, why are you crying?"
Magnus felt guilty and his heart softened seeing Mrs. Riley, with her white hair, shed tears. He silently vowed to take good care of his mother, work hard, and provide her with a good life.
"Magnus, Mom is happy. Our family is finally reunited. Mom has no other wishes in her life except for the safety and unity of our family, to be able to sit together at a table and share a meal."
Wiping away her tears, Mrs. Riley said, "Your older brother...you have been burdened by him. Tomorrow, Mom will go to the community to look for a job. The cleaning lady there said they need help."
"Mom, your health isn't good. You can't go out to work. I can earn money and support you all." Magnus couldn't bear to let his elderly mother go work, and said, "Rest assured, I will take care of you. It's only right for a son to support his parents."
Mrs. Riley looked at her son, who appeared so honest and sincere, and felt a bit guilty. But she didn't say anything else. Since Magnus had said so, she could enjoy herself without any worries.
Mrs. Riley's actions that night brought a bit of comfort to the weary Magnus.
As long as the family was well, what was there to fear from a bit of hardship and fatigue?
As long as his family gave him some sweetness, he was willing to do anything.
The next day, Magnus prepared himself and dressed neatly.
As he was about to leave, Tobias Cobb said, "Magnus, Serenity arrived today. Your ninth uncle helped to deliver her. She'll be at the North Station at three o'clock in the afternoon. Remember to go pick her up. Your mother and I aren't familiar with the way, so we won't go."
Tobias Cobb's tone was commanding, directly giving orders.
"Okay, I'll go pick her up," Magnus didn't have any objections and said, "Mom, Dad, I'm leaving."
When Magnus arrived at the law firm and sat down, boss Damon came over with a smiling face. "Magnus, you probably didn't have breakfast. I bought you breakfast. See if it suits your taste. If you don't like it, I'll go buy you another one. Also, I calculated the money for the afternoon coffees that you've been helping me buy for the past six months. It amounts to five thousand nine hundred and eight. I'll transfer six thousand to you right now. Take it."
