Chapter 716 He Chose to Back Down
If it was jealousy and imbalance before, now Karen's heart was filled with hatred.
When she was chasing after Caspian, Barbara warned her to stay away, and Raymond even yelled at her.
No one supported her, but now the whole family was backing Tate.
Karen thought Eugene and Barbara were playing favorites, and Raymond was no different. She felt unloved and unwanted.
In her eyes, they only cared about Tate, only saw her as their daughter.
Karen clenched her fists so hard her nails dug into her skin.
She gritted her teeth, then quietly slipped back to her room.
There was no way she was letting Caspian pick up Tate. If she couldn't have him, neither could Tate.
Over at the Abbott house, when Finnegan got home, he immediately asked the nanny what Lily had been up to and if she had gone out.
Ever since Lily started hanging out with Lynn, she go out every day. Now that Lynn was working, Lily still kept finding excuses to leave the house.
At home, Lily was always on the phone, laughing and chatting, and the nanny had overheard it several times. The other person was a man.
But the nanny didn't dare to say anything.
The nanny stammered, "Mrs. Abbott went out once today, came back in a little over an hour, and just put Warmie to sleep."
"Okay." Finnegan didn't ask any more questions and went upstairs to find Lily.
Finnegan opened the door and peeked inside, Warmie was already asleep, but Lily wasn't in the room.
He immediately went to Lily's room.
The door was slightly open.
As soon as Finnegan reached the door, he heard Lily on the phone. "He's watching me closely. I can't help it. I'll spend more time with you next time."
Hearing this, Finnegan remembered Caspian's offhand comment at dinner.
Finnegan pushed the door open hard, the door hitting the wall with a bang, startling Lily.
Lily turned around and saw Finnegan, quickly hanging up the phone. "Finnegan, what's wrong with you?"
"Who were you talking to?" Finnegan's face was dark, a trace of pain in his eyes.
Even though he was angry, he tried to keep his voice calm.
Lily was so scared her face turned pale, stammering with a guilty look, "A friend of mine."
Finnegan stared into her eyes, his tone icy. "What friend?"
It was the first time Lily had seen Finnegan angry, and even though he was holding back, it was terrifying, making her afraid to approach, completely different from his usual gentle self.
Lily gripped her phone, took a deep breath, and said, "Finnegan, aren't you being too exacting? You want to know about all my friends and you don't let me go out either. I need freedom. I hate being watched like this. I don't want to be Ophelia anymore. I can't remember the past, and you keep making me try to remember, taking me to relive it. It's really painful for me."
These words seemed to have been bottled up for a long time.
Hearing this, Finnegan felt like he had been hit with a heavy blow, numb and cold, as if his heart been torn apart.
He had always wanted to protect Ophelia, but in the end, his protection became a prison, causing her pain.
Finnegan's body twitched, looking at Ophelia in disbelief. For a moment, he even wondered if he had really put too much pressure on her.
Looking at that face, Finnegan couldn't get angry with her. She was the woman he thought about day and night, the one he loved deeply.
Lily took out her phone and handed it to Finnegan, saying angrily, "You want to know who I was talking to? You can check my phone. Anyway, I'm just your wife in name now. You can do whatever you want."
These words were like a thousand arrows piercing Finnegan's heart. He didn't expect that, in Ophelia's eyes, he was such a man.
Finnegan tried hard to control himself. He had lost Ophelia once, and he was afraid of losing her again.
Finnegan turned around, not checking the phone, swallowing all his emotions and bearing it himself.
"From tomorrow on, you can go wherever you want, and see whoever you want. I just hope you take care of yourself."
