Chapter 200 Pregnancy Revelation
"Sold them?"
Ophe thought she must have misheard and was particularly surprised. "Addison, is it true that all the children were sold? Can someone be so heartless as to sell their children?"
"My dad said so," Addison replied. "We were poor in our hometown, and who didn't have several children? My family had five children, and I was the second oldest. The oldest was my sister, who drowned. I have two younger sisters below me, and they were all given away, or rather, sold. Now, my younger brother is left alone. Sons are meant to carry on the family line, so naturally they wouldn't be given away."
Ophe found it absurd. "But that is illegal!"
"In that small village, did the people there understand the law?" Addison said. "Jett is Tobias's eldest son, the first child in the family. Usually, they wouldn't be given away. If my sister hadn't drowned, I would have been given away as well by my parents. Aside from Jett, Tobias also had three daughters and three sons, and they were all given away."
By "given away," Addison actually meant sold.
Ophe thought about what Magnus had said before–he had three older sisters and two older brothers, but they had all died in accidents.
'Addison said there were three sons besides Jett, so Magnus must be the third one. Magnus longed for family, and he had tried so hard to find his relatives, only to discover that he had been sold, not kidnapped from the train station.
'Tobias and Riley had committed an unforgivable sin, and now they were facing the consequences, yet Magnus was the one who had to bear them. Why should Magnus be responsible for taking care of them when they had abandoned him at birth?' She speculated.
Ophe was furious, and she couldn't help but wonder if her biological parents had also sold her.
"Thank you for telling me all this, Addison." Ophe had already suspected that something was wrong, but she didn't expect it to be like this.
"Ophe, I don't know why you're looking into all of this, but those were all decades ago. The laws were not well-established, and even if they were, which biological child would sue their parents?" Addison said. "I have to get back to the company now. Ophe, I'll contact you once I resign."
"Alright, Addison. You go ahead and take care of your business." Ophe didn't want to delay Addison any further, as it was still work hours.
Addison returned to the company while Ophe sat in the café, digesting the information Addison had given her.
'How am I going to approach Magnus with all of this? To his parents, who didn't value his longing for family, he is nothing but a burden they had abandoned.
'If it weren't for Jett's paralysis and Tobias and Riley's old age when they needed someone to take care of them, they probably won't have recognized Magnus.' She pondered.
But Ophe couldn't let Magnus be deceived either.
Ophe was caught in a difficult situation. She worried that Magnus wouldn't be able to handle the truth, but she also didn't want to see Magnus being dragged down.
After much thought, Ophe decided to find Magnus. She had just walked to the doorway of the café when she ran into Dovie.
Ophe was taken aback but quickly greeted, "Hello, Chairman Dovie."
Dovie's expression remained gentle. "I saw you inside and came over to see what you've been up to lately or what you plan to do."
Dovie didn't know why, but whenever she saw Ophe, she couldn't help but come over to chat and subconsciously show her care.
Since her conversation with Celia last time, she knew that Celia didn't like Ophe and was worried that Ophe would be mistreated in Abbott's Family.
"Thank you for your concern, Chairman Dovie. I have plans to open a Japanese restaurant recently." Ophe felt Dovie's goodwill and was happy to chat a bit more. "The grand opening will be on the 15th of next month at Taikooli. If you are free, please come and support."
"A Japanese restaurant sounds good. Alright, I will definitely come to support you." Dovie smiled. "How are things going for you at Abbott's Family? Is Little Finnegan treating you well?"
"He's treating me well." Ophe felt a bit guilty and said, "Chairman Dovie, I'm sorry, but when I was with Finnegan, I didn't know about the engagement between Niamh and Abbott's Family."
"Relationships are a matter of fate. It shows that you and Little Finnegan have a deep connection, while Niamh does not." Dovie had a broad-minded perspective. "I said it last time as well; the engagement is just an oral agreement and does not necessarily hold. Little Finnegan doesn't like Niamh, and they are not suitable for each other. I understand that."
Niamh was hot-tempered, spoiled, and has various dark histories. Besides the title of the Parks Family noble miss, there was nothing else that matched Finnegan.
Dovie was now in a headache, considering whether to hand the company over to Niamh. With Niamh's abilities, it might be difficult to control, and the century-old family business might end up being ruined in Niamh's hands.
As the two were chatting, a man rushed into the store and accidentally bumped into Ophe without noticing her.
Ophe instinctively protected her belly, and the man quickly apologized, "I'm sorry."
Ophe frowned and shook her head. "It's alright."
Dovie saw Ophe protecting her belly and instantly understood.
