Chapter 155: Growing Hatred

With just one sentence, Niamh successfully manipulated Dovie.
Dovie's eyes were red, and she had no way of dealing with her daughter. How she wished she could teach her daughter well.
"Niamh," Dovie wiped her tears and said, "Mom has been trying her best to make up for your loss, hoping for your happiness. No parents in this world would hope for their children to do poorly. Your father passed away early, and Mom wasn't by your side for fifteen years. How can Mom make up for that?"
Niamh had an injured leg, and she could only stand on one foot or lie on the bed.
Niamh didn't appreciate Dovie's words at all and said, "Then fire Ophelia. I don't want to see her. Mom, you used to give me whatever I wanted. I fired Ophelia, so why did you rehire her?"
Niamh simply didn't like Ophelia. From the very beginning, she instinctively disliked her. She always felt that Ophelia would take everything away from her.
"Mama approached the situation objectively. Ophelia had great business skills and was a talented individual worth nurturing. Furthermore, Ophelia had not made any mistakes," Dovie sincerely advised, "Niamh, one day, Mama's company will be passed on to you. I am grooming Ophelia to be your assistant in the future."

Niamh wanted to say that she didn't need Ophelia, but then she realized that even if she were to drive Ophelia away, her mother would find a way to bring her back. If she stayed by her side, she would have the opportunity, the chance to find a thousand ways to ruin Ophelia.

She wanted her mother to see who was truly better.

"Mama, I'm sorry. I misunderstood you," Niamh's attitude immediately changed as she embraced Dovie. "I thought you wanted Ophelia and didn't want me anymore."

"You silly child, you are my daughter. How could I not want you?" Dovie gently patted Niamh's back and said, "I would give my heart to you if I could, Niamh. Mama only wishes the best for you. As long as you are willing to change, everything can still be salvaged."

"Mama," Niamh cooed.

"Alright, alright."

The atmosphere between mother and daughter also relaxed. Dovie's tone softened quite a bit, "Rest well. Tomorrow, go apologize to Sybil, and then pay respects at Sybil's parents' graves, as an act of atonement."

"What? Apologize to a dead person? Apologize to Sybil?" Niamh became excited and resistant.

In her eyes, Sybil was just a lower-class, undeserving of her apology.

"This is the debt you owe to the Wang family," Dovie spoke firmly, "You must go. The situation has escalated and you must show your attitude."

Niamh was defiant, "But Sybil wants to harm me."

"Tit for tat," Dovie's values were righteous, "Sybil's parents died because of you. You must apologize. If Sybil did something wrong, the law will punish her. The situation has become high-profile; the internet has a long memory. You must carry yourself properly for the sake of your reputation and the company's interests. It is your duty as the heir of the Parks family."

Dovie wanted to carefully cultivate Niamh, to make her less willful, and to become someone who could take charge, be flexible, and understand the bigger picture.

"How many years will Sybil be sentenced?" Niamh only cared about this.

This question made Dovie feel cold and disappointed. Niamh had completely missed her intentions.

"I have provided a letter of forgiveness. Sybil will not be sentenced. Her parents died because of you. Do you still want Sybil to go to jail? As a person, you shouldn't be too harsh. Leave room in your actions," Dovie had another reason for not holding Sybil accountable, and that was Sybil's curse.

Sybil's curse made her feel uneasy, so she did good deeds to find peace within herself.

"Mama, how could you let Sybil go like that?" Niamh couldn't understand and was furious.

"Enough, listen to me. Mama only wants what's best for you," Dovie didn't want to say anything more. Niamh wouldn't understand her.
Niamh sulked. Since Ophelia appeared, she noticed a change in her mother, always favoring outsiders over her. Niamh blamed Ophelia for this and secretly vowed to destroy her.

Meanwhile, Ophelia had no idea that Niamh held a grudge against her. She was exhausted from Finnegan's antics. Throughout the night, she had lost count of how many times she felt like she was about to die.

The consequences of their lust left Ophelia feeling weak and lethargic the next day. She woke up in the afternoon, the ambiguous atmosphere in the room still lingering. She could almost smell his scent. Ophelia touched her stomach, realizing they had never taken any precautions. She couldn't help but wonder if she was...
