Chapter 727 Drunken Mishap

Lily sat there for who knows how long when Warmie came downstairs and walked up to her.

"Mom, I'm so sleepy," Warmie said sweetly.

Every bedtime, Warmie would seek out her parents.

Lily snapped back to reality, picked up Warmie, and felt much more at ease.

Warmie's body was soft and fragrant. She felt sorry for Warmie losing her mother at such a young age.

Lily wanted to replace Ophelia, but she couldn't.

Warmie's hand rested on Lily's chest, and she called out with a smile, "Mom."

Warmie's smile was very content.

It was then that Lily realized Warmie wasn't calling her, but this heart.

A mother and daughter's hearts are connected. Warmie grew up listening to Ophelia's heartbeat in her womb, how could she not be familiar with it?

The beating of Ophelia's heart was the reason Warmie felt close to her.

Lily kissed Warmie, lovingly holding her in her arms. "Warmie, Mommy loves you."

Lily gently patted Warmie, coaxing her to sleep.

Warmie's little hand mimicked Lily's, gently patting her. She amused herself and laughed. Warmie's laughter was beautiful and healing.

Lily often marveled at how there could be such an adorable baby in this world.

On the other side, Finnegan went to a bustling bar to drown his sorrows alone and called Caspian.

Caspian had just returned from training at the police station and would definitely go to see Tate first. How could he have time to drink with Finnegan?

Finnegan felt miserable, his entire chest felt like it had been shattered by a stick, yet there were no visible wounds.

Thinking of Ophelia's betrayal, how could Finnegan not feel resentful?

But he didn't hate her.

He only blamed himself for not saving Ophelia back then, letting her suffer so much.

He didn't blame Ophelia, but he couldn't accept it either.

What man could accept it?

In the past, Finnegan would have taken out the other man and kicked Ophelia out.

How could he tolerate someone else's betrayal?

But now, Finnegan hadn't done that. He found it strange that he had forcibly endured the affair.

Finnegan laughed at himself and downed another drink.

In the end, he didn't know how many drinks he had. The figures around him blurred, and he seemed to see Ophelia in the crowd.

He staggered over. "Ophelia, Ophelia."

Finnegan's face lit up with a smile. He knew it, Ophelia couldn't bear to hurt him. She still cared for him and had come to find him.

Finnegan was extremely drunk, the alcohol numbing his brain. By the time he got there, the vision of Ophelia had moved away.

Finnegan stumbled out, chasing after the figure.

Caspian arrived just in time to see Finnegan stumbling towards the river, unresponsive to his calls.

Caspian quickly followed. "Finnegan, Finnegan."

Caspian was worried. He hadn't wanted to come, but a friend at the bar had seen Finnegan and told him.

So Caspian came with Tate.

On the way, Tate had mentioned Finnegan and Lily's cold war, making Caspian even more concerned.

Finnegan, drunk, followed the figure to the river, climbed over the railing, and was about to jump.

"Finnegan." Caspian was startled and pulled him back. "Finnegan, it's not worth it. You're not going to go and do something drastic over a little argument, are you?"

To Finnegan, there was a path ahead.

Tate was also shocked by Finnegan's actions.

"He's had too much to drink," Tate said. "Let's get him to the car."

"Good thing we came, or there'd be headlines tomorrow morning: Abbott Corporation President Drowns by the River," Caspian said, helping Finnegan to the car.

Finnegan fell asleep in the car, unresponsive to calls, occasionally mumbling, "Ophelia, Ophelia."

Caspian, frustrated, said, "Since Ophelia returned, Finnegan has been feeling more down. If this keeps up, he might spiral into depression. It would've been easier if Ophelia hadn't returned. Seeing a good person like him in such distress is heartbreaking."

"Let's get him to a hotel first," Tate said. "You call the Abbott family and let them know."

Despite his complaints, Caspian did as Tate said.

After settling Finnegan, Caspian called the Abbott family. The nanny answered the landline.

After the call, they learned that the couple had fought, but the nanny hadn't heard anything about a divorce, only that Finnegan and Ophelia had argued.

By now, Lily had already coaxed Warmie to sleep.

Hearing this, Caspian was also angry. After hanging up, he said to Tate, "I don't know what's up with Ophelia. Can't she just find some peace with Finnegan? Surviving and coming back wasn't easy."
