Chapter 737 Fate's Trick
Tate's entrance shattered all the old stereotypes the Stewart family had about her.
She walked in with such grace and confidence, not a trace of shyness, just pure elegance.
Donna exclaimed, "Well, if it isn't Sandra! My goodness! The spitting image of Eugene and Barbara, you are!"
Jared added, "Now that's what a real lady looks like. Not...well, you know."
"Tell me about it. My kids wouldn't know grace and elegance if it hit 'em in the face."
"Karen, you said your sister was... where was it again? Doesn't matter. Point is, she sure doesn't look the part. That skin, that posture... she's got your mother's flair, that's for sure. Barbara always did clean up well."
Karen was fuming inside. She knew how amazing Tate was, but hearing everyone else praise her still made her jealous.
What really got under Karen's skin was that Eugene and Barbara wanted Tate to take over the Stewart family business.
Karen was fine with Raymond getting the company, but Tate? No way.
Forcing a smile, Karen said, "Since Tate came back, Mom's been taking her to the beauty salon every day and hired a teacher to teach her etiquette. We can't let Tate lose face on such an occasion."
Barbara did hire a teacher for Tate, but it was just a half-day lesson, and Tate didn't even need it.
At Moonlight Gate, the teachers were top-notch, and their etiquette standards were super strict.
But in Karen's version, everything was because of Tate's crash course after coming back.
Whether it was her skin or her demeanor, Karen made it sound like it was all superficial.
Donna said, "To learn all this in such a short time is pretty impressive."
Jared nodded, "Oh, she was always a bright one, even back then. "
Listening to everyone's praise, Karen thought maliciously, 'Go ahead, praise her all you want. The more you praise her now, the harder she'll fall later. When that dress zipper bursts and Tate's humiliated in front of everyone, let's see how you praise her then.'
And it wasn't just the dress. Karen had other plans. She'd swapped out the photos for the big screen later, including one of Tate when she got out of prison.
Karen glanced at Caspian next to her, who couldn't take his eyes off Tate.
Caspian's parents were also there, mingling with the crowd.
Grace was stunned when she saw Tate and quietly asked Caspian, "Isn't that Tate?"
Caspian proudly said, "Yeah, it's Tate. Mom, isn't she stunning today?"
Grace, observing the scene with a knowing smirk. "Well, well," she murmured, "Someone seems to have caught Caspian's eye."
When Tate appeared, Finnegan glanced over, then looked at Lily beside him and softly said, "When your mom brought Niamh back, she also held a grand return banquet like this. If she hadn't had an accident, she would've been so happy to hold a grand return banquet for you."
Dovie never got that chance; she only heard Ophelia call her mom once and never got to give her more.
One action by Natalie caused a lifetime of tragedy for Dovie.
Lily glanced at Finnegan, feeling even more sorrowful for Ophelia.
Ophelia had endured so much before finding happiness, but her happy days were short-lived.
Wilder kept asking her to return to Country F, but she wasn't the real Ophelia and kept finding excuses to refuse.
Lily's gaze fell on the family of three on stage, imagining if Ophelia and Dovie were still alive, they would have such happy moments too.
"Fate is so cruel," Lily said wistfully. "It's like it can't stand to see people happy."
Finnegan wanted to reach out and hold Lily's hand, but he didn't have the courage. In the end, he just picked up his coffee and took a sip. "Cherish the people around you."
