Chapter 101 Jasmine was Never a Lamb
Stellar Enterprises, employee rest area.
Jasmine held her coffee in one hand and sat in the rest area while tightly gripping her phone with the other.
She must be okay...
Emily, you must hold on.
In Jasmine's eyes, Emily was the kind of woman who could bloom even when thrown into the mud.
She was very strong.
During her time in prison, she said she had once lost a child.
She didn't know the man she was seeing was married, so she got pregnant with that man's child.
Later, she found out and, angry, she asked the man for money, threatening to abort the child if he didn't pay.
She had actually already aborted the child.
Originally, she just wanted to get back at the scumbag, but she didn't expect that he would have her sent to prison for blackmailing him.
Huh, how ridiculous...
During her time in prison, Emily kept saying men were not good at all, and she would never easily trust a man again.
After being released, she wanted to use men as stepping stones and climbing up the social ladder step by step.
But this time, she was deceived by a man again.
Her so-called boyfriend watched her being beaten but did not to come out and protect her.
Such a man was more disgusting than a scammer.
"You can't eat here. Yuck! What's that smell? It's so foul."
An employee said sarcastically.
Jasmine looked down at her coffee. It was just a cup of coffee. Could it have a strong smell? Everyone else was drinking coffee here too.
"It must be her smell, right? The more men, the more there's that cheap stench."
Jasmine's finger holding the phone stiffened for a moment, realizing they were talking about her.
"Jasmine, come over here." In the office area, the HR manager called out to her.
Jasmine stood up, finished her coffee, and threw it in the trash, then quickly walked into the office.
"Jasmine, your education, can only be verified up to high school. Stellar Enterprises has strict educational requirements, and this doesn't quite fit." Daria spoke in a low voice. "I suggest you tell Liam and voluntarily resign; it would be better for you that way."
Jasmine remained silent.
"Or I can transfer you to another position, with your education, cleaning the cafeteria or the hygiene area would be suitable." Daria looked like she enjoyed looking down at Jasmine.
Jasmine didn't think those positions were beneath her. As long as she could earn money, she didn’t actually mind.
"There's an evaluation in three days; I want to give it a try." Jasmine looked at Daria, without compromising.
Liam would be in charge of the evaluation.
Daria frowned, finding Jasmine very stubborn. "You've seen how excellent everyone in the company is. Everyone is a graduate from Ivy League schools, at worst they are graduate students from regular universities. There are also many with special positions who are Ph.D. holders. Are you sure you’re okay with people resenting you, just so you keep this job?"
"I am a business management student from Stanford University; I was top of my class for three consecutive semesters. I am fluent in four languages, proficient in psychology, management psychology, marketing, and joint venture management, etc... Before leaving school, I had already completed all credits in advance, the school just didn't let me stay enrolled, but I don't think I am inferior to the people you mentioned."
Jasmine quietly looked at Daria. "You are the HR manager. You must understand that the CEO chooses his own personal secretary, but you are still trying to push me to leave, which is not wise."
If the HR manager and Ethan were not on the same side, there would be big trouble in the future.
Daria has been with the company for a long time, so it would be difficult for Jasmine to deal with her, and if she were not careful, it could backfire and become a bigger problem.
What Jasmine needed to do now was to give Daria a warning, to be careful not to be used by others.
Daria looked at Jasmine meaningfully. She squinted her eyes, seemingly deep in thought.
After a long silence, Daria smiled and spoke. "Since you believe you are capable of doing this job, I guess I should just look forward to your performance."
She just now realized that Ethan must have instructed Liam to select Jasmine.
Carmen was not thinking ahead when she asked her to get rid of Jasmine no matter what.
If Daria followed through, she would be openly opposing Ethan.
The situation at Stellar Enterprises was still unclear, so Daria naturally had to carefully consider her stance.
"I won't let you down." Jasmine bowed and left the office.
Daria watched Jasmine leave with a profound look on her face. It seemed that Carmen's wariness of her was not entirely unfounded.
Jasmine was seemingly easy to bully but unexpectedly resolute.
…
Workspace.
Jasmine carefully looked at Ethan's past work schedule, jotting down some details that the previous personal secretary had missed in her notebook.
"Here." Liam walked in and knocked on the door, but Jasmine didn't hear.
After seeing a box of sandwiches on the table, Jasmine quickly looked up. "Liam..."
"You haven't had lunch, have you? Mr. Douglas asked me to bring this for you." Liam glanced around, made sure there was no one nearby, and spoke softly. "Don't collapse after just three days. You'll embarrass me."
"I won't." Jasmine shook her head.
"People in the office chat group are talking about you. You've stirred up public anger. Can you handle it? If you can't, speak up in advance." Liam didn't think Jasmine was the type to handle such matters.
She seemed so delicate, like she would topple over at the slightest breeze.
"Mr. Douglas is going on a business trip to New York. He'll be back the day after tomorrow. He's in the underground parking lot, and he wants you to go down there." Liam tapped on the table. "Follow me."
Jasmine hesitated for a moment. Ethan was going on a business trip?
Jasmine quickly got up, packed her things, and carried them with her, following behind Liam.
On the way, employees whispered among themselves, but out of respect for Liam, they didn't speak openly.
It was clear that Liam was intentionally taking Jasmine on this trip to send a message to these people: Jasmine belonged to him, and they shouldn't cross the line.
That was Ethan's intention as well.
Liam was actually a bit reluctant. They had made a bet, and Ethan had promised not to intervene and let Jasmine handle things on her own. But this was still a covert way of helping Jasmine.
Entering the elevator with a sense of indignation, Liam glanced at Jasmine.
What was so special about this woman? Why did Mr. Douglas treat her so differently?
After arriving at the underground parking lot, Jasmine cautiously got into Ethan's car. "Mr. Douglas, are you going on a business trip?"
"Yes, the housekeeper will stay overnight, so you don't have to worry." Ethan nodded.
"I..." Jasmine hesitated, not mentioning her plan to go to Boston.
After work, she wanted to visit Emily in Boston and then find a way to rush back overnight, without missing work the next day.
But since she and Ethan were just in a working relationship, Jasmine didn't say much; she was afraid of causing trouble for him.
"Are you settling in on your first day?"
Seeing that Liam didn't get into the car, Jasmine spoke softly. "Mr. Douglas, do you know that the HR manager is one of Carmen's people?"
Ethan raised an eyebrow but didn't answer.
Of course, he knew.
Not only did he know, but he also knew that Daria was a tricky person to deal with. She had been with the company for over twenty years and loyally followed Howard for over a decade.
"Do you want to win her over, Mr. Douglas?" Jasmine wanted to know Ethan's thoughts. "Or just get rid of her directly?"
Ethan smirked. "After all, she's a longtime employee of the company. It would be a loss to get rid of her."
In ensuring the company's interests, it was natural to win her over.
"I can... do it." Jasmine looked at Ethan with a determined gaze.
Clearly, she had a plan in mind.
Ethan paused for a moment, looking at Jasmine's increasingly profound gaze.
If it were someone else, Ethan might have thought they were just talking big.
But when Jasmine said it, he found it believable.
"How do you plan on doing it?" Ethan smiled.
"What happens if you eat peanuts, Mr. Douglas?" Jasmine nervously looked at Ethan.
"It’s a respiratory allergy. I have difficulty breathing, and in severe cases, I might go into shock." Ethan didn't hesitate to reveal his weakness to Jasmine.
Jasmine opened her mouth, then lowered her voice. "Mr. Douglas, you may need to make a sacrifice..."
Ethan chuckled. "Okay, wait for me to come back from the business trip."
Unconsciously, his tone sounded somewhat indulgent.
