Chapter 488 Sophia Wants to Acknowledge Richard as Her Son
Sophia glared at Richard, frustrated. How could he be so defensive and resistant?
Even if she had left him with May, it shouldn't make him hate her this much.
Maybe Cordelia or someone else had badmouthed her to him.
"Richard, I really miss you. I have my reasons; you can't just..." Sophia tried to catch up to him.
To win Arnold's heart, she needed to get Richard back first.
Years ago, Sophia had left Arnold for Gabriel Perez and soon found out she was pregnant.
She was thrilled, thinking the baby was Gabriel's. Frank wouldn't let her marry Gabriel, but a child could change that.
She used the baby to stay connected with Gabriel.
But when the baby was born, the blood type didn't match. Frank knew the child wasn't Gabriel's and kicked her out.
Sophia realized Richard was Arnold's son, not Gabriel's.
She had despised Richard back then but was now grateful she had him for her own selfish reasons.
It felt like divine intervention.
When Sophia found out Guadalupe was actually Arnold, she went from shock to regret to excitement. She never thought the child she had accidentally would become her key bargaining chip.
At the company entrance, security stopped Sophia.
LY has a dedicated security team managed by Richard. Letting Sophia in would be a failure of duty.
"I don't know that woman. If she comes again, don't let her in," Richard ordered and walked away.
Sophia angrily watched Richard's back. This was the child she had raised, and now he was a stranger.
"Sophia, it seems he doesn't want to acknowledge you," Assistant Dakota said nervously.
Sophia snorted. "He's my son. He will forgive me eventually."
Glancing at the time, Sophia said, "I heard he's married. Contact my daughter-in-law. I want to see if she's worthy of being my son's wife."
Dakota quickly opened the car door for her. "I've arranged a meeting with Ms. Willer. She said her schedule is tight and can only give you thirty minutes."
Sophia paused as she got into the car. "Seems my daughter-in-law isn't easy to deal with."
"Betty doesn't have a good reputation. She lost a husband and was kidnapped to Southeast Asia shortly after getting married."
Sophia frowned. "Richard can do better. He's the future heir of the Sanders Group!"
Dakota didn't dare say more.
Alex's house in Silverlight City was a Mediterranean-style villa, which Evelina liked.
He bought it as a gift for Evelina, so even after the divorce, he still gave it to her.
"We're just staying over," Alex said softly to Evan.
Evelina responded indifferently, like a hostess, "For these three months, I'll treat Evan as my son, so the only one staying over is you."
Alex looked down, disappointed. "Then I'm staying over."
Evelina smiled. "You go see the family doctor and let Evan rest. I'll cook."
Alex nodded and walked into Evan's room, looking dejected.
The family doctor finished examining Evan's leg and gave some instructions. "Try not to get out of bed. If you need help, let the caregiver assist you. Even for the bathroom, have someone help. Proper healing is crucial to avoid long-term issues."
Evan clutched the blanket tightly. He wasn't a cripple yet; did he really need help for everything?
He had once been so proud and strong.
"Sir, let me know if you need anything," the caregiver said, stepping forward to help.
"No! Don't touch me," Evan snapped, pushing the caregiver away.
The caregiver looked at Alex, worried. "Mr. Everhart."
Alex sighed, knowing Evan must be feeling terrible. "You can go for now. I'll call if we need anything."
Alex sent the caregiver away and also saw the family doctor and psychologist Elbert out.
"Evan is very proud. Now, with such a severe injury, and knowing his mother delayed his treatment, he's struggling to accept it," Harold said, glancing at Alex.
"Psychological wounds need love to heal. Mr. Everhart, you need to pay more attention to him. This is a sensitive time, and he's very vulnerable."
"Evan's issues didn't develop overnight. It seems he grew up in a tough environment, and this isn't his first blow."
Misfortune always seemed to find those already suffering. Evan was one of those unfortunate souls.
Alex nodded. "I understand."
Clearly, Karen hadn't treated Evan well over the years.
And Benjamin had treated him even worse.
Behind the door, Evelina leaned against the wall, silent.
In three months, she couldn't do much.
The sound of a cup shattering came from the room, and Evelina and Alex rushed over.
They saw Evan had fallen from the bed, sitting on the floor in a sorry state.
Evan's eyes were red, his hair disheveled. He was trying hard to stand up and go to the bathroom by himself.
He couldn't let a caregiver take care of him; he had his dignity.
Afraid Evan would feel humiliated, Evelina turned and left, sitting silently on the sofa.
Alex said nothing, walked over to help Evan up, let him lean on his shoulder, and supported him to the bathroom.
Evan bit his lip hard, his eyes red. "Get out."
Alex sighed. If he had known about this son earlier, things wouldn't have come to this.
"I'll be right outside," Alex said, closing the bathroom door and standing silently outside.
He couldn't believe Karen could be so cruel to her son.
She had deliberately delayed his treatment, making him endure pain that could ruin his life.
"Evan, do you want steak for dinner?" Evelina walked into the room casually, smiling.
Evan clenched his fingers, lowered his head, and, after a long time, finally spoke. "I want grilled chicken wings and salmon."
Evelina smiled. "Alright, I will make it for you."
As Evelina and Alex left the room, Evan couldn't hold back any longer. He pulled at his hair and trembled silently.
