Chapter 710 Was Deborah Xavier's First Love?
Jasmine looked at Ethan. "Xavier is the only heir of the Powell family. Once he returns to Kerea, he will definitely take over the company. Deborah confidently threatened Nolan with Xavier. She must have some leverage over him. We need to prepare in advance."
Jasmine still didn't take Daniel seriously. What could Mark do if he wouldn't give up? Daniel wasn't even a Douglas. Did he plan to have Daniel compete for the inheritance as an adopted son?
How ridiculous.
Compared to Daniel, Bradley was indeed more dangerous.
"I'll figure something out with Xavier," Ethan said, ruffling Jasmine's hair.
Jasmine nodded, feeling uneasy but unable to pinpoint the problem.
In the rental apartment, Xavier lay on the couch, playing with a kaleidoscope.
Lily had gone to class and would buy some vegetables to cook after class.
Xavier frowned. "Vegetables again."
"Vegetables aren't cheap either," Lily said helplessly.
"Didn't I give you that watch to sell?" Someone in the Powell family still wanted to get rid of Xavier, so he didn't dare to use his card and risk being tracked.
He had to find a way for Lily to sell some of his things.
"I didn't sell it. Your stuff is all limited edition. If I really sold it, those assassins would definitely target us," Lily said, pulling the watch out of her pocket and tossing it to Xavier.
Xavier raised an eyebrow. "You're quite cautious."
Lily said nothing and went to the kitchen to cook.
There was a knock on the door.
Xavier got up to open it. Outside stood Deborah, wearing sunglasses, a hat, and high heels, looking disdainful. "No matter how bad things get, you shouldn't be living here."
Xavier sneered. "As if you were born in a great place?"
Deborah knew Xavier was mocking her for being an illegitimate child.
"Pretty much. You're not much luckier than I am," Deborah said, pushing the door open and walking in disdainfully.
Xavier sat on the couch, frowning. "You better have a reason for coming here."
Deborah sat on Xavier's lap, wrapping her arms around his neck. "I just got kicked out of the Hawthorne Group. Of course, I came to you for cooperation. You won't ignore me, will you?"
Xavier was stunned for a moment and instinctively looked towards the kitchen, trying to push Deborah away.
But it was too late; Lily came out with a bowl of pasta and froze when she saw Deborah.
Deborah also froze but quickly relaxed. She knew Lily.
Lily wasn't much of a threat.
Lily looked at Xavier. "Dinner's ready."
Xavier's face darkened. Deborah was sitting on his lap, and Lily seemed indifferent.
"Xavier, you should go back," Deborah said, looking at Xavier.
Xavier, feeling irritated, pushed her away.
"Have you two slept together?" Deborah asked.
Xavier didn't deny it.
"Xavier, I remember you used to be very picky. You wouldn't touch someone who had been with others. Lily is quite notorious in that circle."
Lily clenched her fists, knowing Deborah was humiliating her.
Xavier glared at Deborah. "Shut up."
"Did I say something wrong?" Deborah looked at Lily dangerously.
Xavier was actually defending her? How strange.
Deborah had always been unafraid because she knew she had a backup plan.
Even if Ethan didn't want her and Nolan didn't marry her, she still had Xavier.
She and Xavier had a past in Muskow. Although neither of them was sentimental, Xavier had promised her that if she had nowhere else to go, he would marry her.
"Xavier, I remember you promised me that if I came back, you would marry me," Deborah said, seizing her last chance.
She hadn't married Xavier before because the Powell family had other heirs. Now, with only Xavier left, he was the sole heir.
His status was different now.
Lily's eyes flickered, and she turned back to the kitchen.
Xavier frowned. "Are you crazy?"
"I want to get married," Deborah said seriously. "You promised me before."
To Xavier, Deborah was like a first love.
"Let me think about it," Xavier said in a deep voice.
"Think about what? Messiah can help you return to the Powell family and secure your position. If you marry me, I can help you a lot," Deborah said, leaning on Xavier's shoulder.
Xavier was silent, clearly considering it.
In the kitchen, Lily's eyes darkened. She secretly recorded Deborah and Xavier's conversation and sent it to Jasmine.
Lily texted Jasmine: [Xavier and Deborah have a special relationship, and they mentioned Messiah.]
Soon, Jasmine replied: [Are you with Xavier?]
Lily replied: [We've been together for a while.]
Jasmine: [Be careful. Deborah is not a good person.]
Lily texted: [Okay.]
After deleting their chat history, Lily leaned against the table, listening to Deborah and Xavier.
"You're hesitating? Because of that woman who's been used by many?" Deborah raised her voice on purpose. "Xavier, you're really not picky now."
For the first time, Xavier was angered by a woman. He grabbed Deborah's collar and warned. "Watch your mouth."
Deborah looked at Xavier in shock, seemingly unable to believe it.
Xavier frowned, instinctively looking away. "If you have nothing else, you can leave now."
Deborah glanced at the kitchen with a sour expression and stood up. "Xavier, don't forget our agreement. Right now, the only one who can help you secure your position in the Powell family is Messiah. You better not disappoint him."
Deborah left, giving Lily a cold look.
She couldn't allow any woman to ruin her last chance.
Especially not a woman like Lily.
Although she didn't see Lily as a threat, Deborah's nature was to eliminate all potential problems.
She wouldn't allow Lily to stay by Xavier's side.
After Deborah left, Lily came out of the kitchen. "Eat, the pasta's getting cold."
Xavier sat on the couch, not moving. "Aren't you going to ask me?"
"It has nothing to do with me." Lily had heard about Xavier in the circle before.
Although he was cold, he wasn't crazy. It was said he had someone in his heart and rarely participated in those kinds of gatherings.
Moreover, he rarely slept with women who had been with many men.
"Nothing to do with you?" Xavier frowned, sneering. "Indeed, nothing to do with you."
Lily took a bite of the pasta. It didn't taste good after sitting for too long.
"I'll be leaving soon," Xavier told Lily.
"Okay." Lily nodded.
Xavier was unhappy with Lily's attitude.
Suddenly, the door was kicked open, and someone rushed in, targeting Xavier.
Xavier frowned, kicked over the table, and grabbed Lily's hand, trying to escape.
"Xavier, run!" Lily held onto the assassin, letting Xavier escape.
Seeing Lily's bleeding mouth, Xavier kicked the assassin away and pulled her along to escape.
Lily looked at Xavier's hand, which was tightly gripping her wrist, her eyes cold.
He had fallen for her.
