Chapter 470 Connor's High-Level Strategy
At the Velvet Orchid Dining.
Avery sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, swirling her wine glass.
She was stunning. No tattoos, just flawless makeup and bold red lips that made her look both mature and untouchable.
"Deborah's back," Christopher said, lounging across from Avery. "We need to be careful."
Avery took a sip of her wine, her deep eyes locked on Christopher.
Good thing they didn't share the same mother. Otherwise, she'd question her intelligence.
"Avery, let's team up. Grandpa's health is failing, and half the assets will go to Connor. I heard Grandpa wants to give him even more. If he gets too much, Dad will get less, and so will we."
Christopher reminded her, "Plus, that bitch Deborah's back to claim her share."
Christopher believed everything in the Hawthorne family should be his as the eldest grandson, but Grandpa always favored Connor.
"Do you know the saddest thing about Dad?" Avery asked coolly.
Christopher frowned. The wound on his brow was still fresh from his fight with Tom.
He asked, "What?"
"Having a fool like you for a son." Avery sat up straight and put down her wine glass. "You're so ambitious you won't spare anyone in the Hawthorne family."
Christopher was taken aback, eyeing Avery warily.
"You think I don't know what you've done?" Avery tossed some evidence on the table. "You tried to run me over, messed with my race car, and threw nails on the track. You're ruthless."
"Avery, I don't know what you're talking about," Christopher said, looking away.
"You're too impatient." Avery pointed to a photo on the table. "You went after me; I can't do much to you for now. But you went after Connor. Do you think he'll let you off?"
Christopher stayed silent.
"You call Deborah a bitch because her mom wasn't as good at securing her position as yours." Avery leaned back, her demeanor screaming she was the only legitimate daughter of the Hawthorne family.
Christopher gritted his teeth, glaring at Avery. "So, Avery, are you gonna keep me misunderstood, refuse to work with me, and become my enemy?"
"I don't think I misunderstand you." Avery shot back. "I don't team up with snakes; I'm afraid of getting bitten."
"Fine, let's see how long you stay proud in the Hawthorne family." Christopher stood up abruptly and stormed off.
Since Avery didn't appreciate his offer, he'd team up with Deborah.
Deborah was smart.
Christopher decided to work with Deborah, taking down Connor first, then Avery.
Finally, he'd find a way to get rid of Deborah.
Then, everything in the Hawthorne family would be his.
Watching Christopher leave, Avery sneered.
"Two snakes in one family." Avery shook her head and downed her wine in one gulp.
She was here to provoke Christopher into teaming up with Deborah.
Deborah was a master of disguise; she seemed weak but was extremely vicious.
Avery would let them fight it out for a while.
"By provoking Christopher like that, he's definitely going to team up with someone to take you down. Why didn't you pretend to cooperate with him to keep him in check for a while?" After Christopher left, Connor stepped out from the shadows.
"Connor, I heard you met with Deborah today?" Avery propped her head up, her eyes cold as ice.
He sat across from her. "There aren't many people I can trust in the Hawthorne family."
Avery looked at him. "You don't trust me either, do you?"
Connor nodded. "You're different from them. Your motives are clear, and you haven't lost your mind."
"So, are we going to work together this time?" Avery smiled. "Got any good suggestions? Let's hear them."
"Marriage alliance to consolidate our power." Connor pushed three photos in front of her. "Nolan, the eldest son of the Cunningham family, now heads the entire Cunningham Group. The Cunningham family has three sons; you can pick any one."
"Henry from the Patrick family. After their alliance with the Harper family ended, Mr. Patrick's been looking for a new match for Henry. As the legitimate eldest daughter of the Hawthorne family, you're on his radar."
Connor tapped the last photo. "Ethan."
"Are you kidding? Ethan's already married; I saw it online." Avery laughed. "Besides, he's been kicked out by the Douglas family, and they're still after him. You want me to marry him?"
"Ethan's the one Deborah's after. Do you think she's a fool?" Connor looked at her.
"Does she see potential in Ethan?" Avery asked, testing the waters.
"The Raymond Group," Connor said, leaving it at that.
Avery's fingers stiffened, and she frowned.
This was unexpected.
"Deborah's smart. She knows what's good for her. She'll do anything to take Ethan from Jasmine." Connor asked if Avery wanted to get involved.
"Then I'm staying out of this mess." Avery placed Nolan and Henry's photos together, shuffled them like drawing lots, and casually threw one on the table.
"I hate ruining other people's families." She pointed to the man on the table without even looking. "Him."
Connor glanced down. "Nolan's a bit tricky; you can give it a shot."
Avery raised an eyebrow. "Now I'm interested."
Avery would use a business marriage to boost her value in the Hawthorne family, to show her Grandpa her capabilities, and to make him wary of her.
It was her first step in fighting for the assets.
"The Patrick family has another son, Ian Patrick. I heard he was sent abroad due to poor health and will be returning soon."
Recently, all the top ten families were buzzing with activity.
"If it's going to be lively, everyone should join in, or it would be a joke." Avery smiled at Connor.
She continued, "I heard Grandpa's looking for a match for you too. He's really partial to you. He knows once he's gone, no one can keep my dad in check and protect you. Grandpa plans to marry you off as soon as possible."
Connor frowned. "Speak properly."
"But seriously, have you never had feelings for any woman? Are you gay?" Avery asked, curious.
"Take care of yourself first. Whether you can win over Nolan is still up in the air," Connor reminded her, then stood up and left.
