Chapter 633 Amelia's Child is Nolan's
"You've got it all wrong," Ian said with a bitter smile. "I might not even be around by the time Justin grows up. What could I possibly be plotting?"
Jasmine frowned but stayed quiet.
Sure, Ian was sick and probably didn't have much time left, but she couldn't let her guard down.
"Justin's just a kid. He shouldn't be dragged into any of the Patrick family drama. If there's nothing else, we're leaving." Jasmine was determined to take Justin away.
"Ms. Cunningham, hold on a second." Landon stepped in, blocking her path. "Justin needs to be here when Mr. Patrick's will is read."
Jasmine felt a surge of irritation. How could they be so selfish to drag her son into this mess? "No way. I said we want no part of this!"
"I heard about Mr. Douglas's accident. I'm really sorry, but things aren't as simple as they seem," Landon said quietly, his words hinting at something deeper.
Jasmine's face darkened. "What are you getting at?"
"Now's not the time to explain. Please cooperate. Matthew had his reasons and plans. This all started with the Patrick and Harper family's engagement. None of it is random; it's a scheme set up years ago, with someone pulling the strings behind the scenes," Landon said, glancing around, his voice low and raspy.
Jasmine wasn't sure if Landon was exaggerating, but his words only made her more uneasy.
Still, she knew there was some truth to it. The influence of that hidden hand was everywhere.
If Ethan's accident was connected to that person, she had to find out who it was.
"This isn't just a private matter for the Douglas family anymore. Many things have been deliberately linked. Matthew had no bad intentions. Giving the shares to Justin might put him in danger, but it's also a way to protect him," Landon said, giving Justin a meaningful look. "He really cared about Justin."
Jasmine stayed silent. She couldn't fully grasp what Landon was saying, but involving her son was infuriating.
"Henry, you're finally here, Matthew..." A woman at the end of the hallway saw Henry and tried to speak, but Henry walked past her with a grim face, silencing her.
Henry looked furious, his presence intimidating.
He marched up to Ian and punched him hard in the face. "Grandpa is critically ill, and you hid it from us?"
"I didn't expect Grandpa to pass away. I just wanted him to get better," Ian said, falling to the ground and wiping blood from the corner of his mouth.
Paul rushed over, and several people held Henry back.
Landon quickly stepped in to stop Henry. "Henry, Matthew is still inside. He wants to see you."
Before Matthew died, he wanted to see Henry the most.
Unfortunately, Henry wasn't there.
With bloodshot eyes, Henry glanced at Ian and quickly walked into the emergency room.
"Mrs. Cunningham, Deborah wants to see you," Ben said after taking a call, mentioning that Deborah had gone to LY and was not in a good mood.
"Why does she want to see me?" Jasmine frowned.
Ethan had an accident, and Deborah had been too calm. Now, she was suddenly acting crazy? Who would believe she just got the news today?
"The receptionist said Deborah is very emotional," Ben said, looking at Justin. "Maybe you should avoid her. There's no need to see her."
Jasmine nodded. "Yeah, there's no need to see her."
At LY Corporation, Deborah sat in the lounge, staring at the entrance. "Where's Jasmine? Tell her to come see me!"
Deborah seemed to be deliberately causing a scene at LY. She wasn't usually emotional and was almost always rational. But today, she was intentionally acting out.
"Tell Jasmine to come see me!" Deborah shouted, insisting on seeing Jasmine.
The receptionist couldn't handle her and had to call Ben again.
"Let her make a scene," Ben said in a deep voice.
Seeing that Jasmine still hadn't appeared, Deborah stood up and threatened. "Tell Jasmine that if she doesn't see me today, she'll face the consequences."
Without Ethan around, let's see what Jasmine can do.
In competition or anything else, Deborah was sure she could make Jasmine lose big time.
She used to be scared of Ethan. But now, there was no one left to fear.
With a cold laugh, Deborah thought Jasmine was pathetic. "Without Ethan, what is she? Just a fake heiress trampled in the mud."
She wouldn't have found her real parents, and nothing would have changed. She would have just wallowed in self-pity and died in that filth.
But she happened to meet Ethan.
Unfortunately, her luck ran out, and with Ethan's accident, she was left alone once again.
The Cunningham family? Besides Ethan, Deborah didn't take anyone else seriously.
"Ms. Morris is looking for you," Laura came over and whispered in Deborah's ear.
Deborah took the phone and frowned as she answered. "Dad."
"Come home for dinner tonight," the voice on the other end said sternly.
"Dad, I have things to handle." Deborah didn't want to go back.
"Got tough, huh?" The voice on the other end was threatening. "Don't forget, you will always be my daughter, understand?"
Deborah took a deep breath. "Fine, I'll come home tonight."
After hanging up, Deborah looked at Laura. "We are bidding against LY for the Everhart Group's new energy project."
Deborah also wanted to get involved and make Jasmine lose miserably.
Back then, Annabelle had tricked Jasmine into signing a bet agreement. If she lost, she would lose the entire LY to the Everhart Group.
By then, how could Jasmine face Ethan, face the people at LY, or manage the Douglas Group?
"Jasmine and Samuel do have some background and strength. We can't fully grasp their project plan." Laura shook her head, finding it hard to compete.
The only one capable of competing with LY for this project now was Ian.
"When did the Hawthorne Group's strength fall behind a small company like LY?" Deborah was displeased. "When faced with problems, think about solving them. Target the people around her. Once we get her project plan, we'll win this battle, understand?"
Laura nodded nervously. "Yes, but who should we target around her?"
Deborah sneered. "That guy named Tom is an idiot. I heard he's a rich playboy. Find a woman to trick him. And that woman named Emily around Jasmine, she has too many stains. This kind of barmaid who climbed up from the bottom only has eyes for money. Bribe her."
Laura understood. "Ms. Morris, you're so smart. I'll get on it right away."
"Do it quickly." Deborah raised her hand, signaling Laura to hurry.
Jasmine, without Ethan, would have a hard time.
At Nolan's place, Fiona suddenly fainted, and Nolan stayed at the hospital for a few days, coming back looking pretty worn out.
Nathaniel had been trying to find Nolan multiple times but hadn't seen him until today.
"Nolan!" Nathaniel grabbed Nolan by the collar and punched him. "You're not a man! Amelia is just a young girl. You're a bastard! How could you make her abort the baby? If you didn't want a child, why didn't you protect her from the start? Are you even human?"
Nolan frowned and grabbed Nathaniel by the collar. "Are you crazy?"
"Do you know Amelia almost died on the operating table?" Nathaniel pushed Nolan's hand away. "You forced her to abort that child, severing all ties between you two. Don't ever bother her again if you still consider yourself a man!"
Nolan's face darkened. "Don't think I don't know what you wanted to do with that child. That child couldn't possibly be mine."
"Nolan, you're pathetic. Do you really think that child is mine?" Nathaniel laughed. "Nolan, how long are you going to deceive yourself? Amelia was already pregnant when you kicked her out. She fainted in the community pavilion and was sent to the hospital. If you had any conscience, you would have found out!"
Nolan's chest tightened suddenly, feeling a heavy blockage in his heart.
How could it be?
