Chapter 405 Alex's Cold-Hearted Approach
In the yard.
"Is it convenient for you to talk?" Jasmine called Lily.
"I've already had dinner," Lily answered naturally on the other end of the line.
It was clear she couldn't talk freely.
"Then contact me when you return the dorm," Jasmine said before hanging up.
It seemed Lily was with Sophia.
Backstreet Tavern.
Lily hung up and looked at the woman sitting across from her. "My roommate asked me to bring her dinner."
"Which of the Cunningham heirs is interested in you?" Sophia asked indifferently, clearly growing impatient.
What she needed now was for Lily to infiltrate the Taylor family, gain the trust of any one of the Cunningham heirs, and then wait for Cordelia to die.
She was determined to get the Cunningham family shares.
She couldn't stand the thought of putting in so much effort and ending up with nothing.
"Nolan is a very cautious person. I've tried to approach him, but he's hard to get close to. He doesn't easily open up to others," Lily said, nervously gripping her skirt.
"Just admit it if you're useless," Sophia sneered. "However, Nolan joined the company in his twenties and helped Cordelia elevate the Cunningham Group to new heights during his college years. He's indeed a tough nut to crack. What about Edgar? He's the dumbest of the Cunningham family. Haven't you made any progress with him either?"
Lily kept her head down, biting her lip hard.
"Stop pretending to be innocent. If you don't sleep with men, they won't open up to you. You're not a conservative person; many people have slept with you. Don't pretend with me." Sophia angrily slammed the table. "I chose to sponsor you back then, not out of charity."
Lily kept her head down, her eyes red and swollen.
"I'll give you one more month. Whether it's Edgar, Nolan, or Edward, you must get one of them. I want photos of you in bed with them. Do you understand?" Sophia demanded the photos as evidence.
She always needed something to threaten Cordelia with.
Lily had a bad reputation. No matter who she clung to, she could ruin them.
Lily took a deep breath and looked up at Sophia. "You'll be punished for this."
Sophia frowned, her face darkening. "Lily, I gave you money and sent you to school. Without me, you and your grandfather would have starved to death. Do you understand?"
Lily bit her lip and said nothing.
"Don't forget, I still have those photos." Sophia was referring to the videos and photos taken when Lily was assaulted, which were used to threaten her. "If it weren't for me, those people wouldn't have let you go. Without me, you'd be a plaything for those men. I gave you a second chance at life. You should be grateful and do everything for me."
Lily's clenched hands trembled. After a long silence, she spoke in a hoarse voice, "Fine, I'll do it."
"That's a good girl. Are you short on money lately?" Sophia smiled, her voice turning gentle.
She took out a card from her bag and handed it to Lily. "This card has $100,000. Buy something nice for your grandfather. I've arranged everything at the hospital, and the doctors are very responsible."
Lily looked at the card, her fingers numb as she took it.
She couldn't refuse the money, or Sophia would suspect her.
The Cunningham family.
It was dark, and Evelina was still sitting in the yard, waiting for Alex.
"Evelina." Cordelia brought a shawl and draped it over Evelina. "Let's go back to the room."
They had bet on half an hour, but it had been four or five hours.
How ridiculous.
Men really don't cherish what they have once they get it.
"Cordelia," Evelina leaned on Cordelia's shoulder, her voice a bit hoarse. "What should I do?"
The usually calm Evelina was starting to panic.
She was unsure.
"Do you have an answer in your heart?" Cordelia asked,
Evelina shook her head. "At first, it was clear. We could just get a divorce. In this world, I can live on my own. But I started to feel lost, hesitant, and unwilling."
Cordelia understood Evelina's feelings very well. "Sit here for a while. I'll make you some coffee."
Evelina nodded, curling up her legs and falling into a quiet silence.
Cordelia went into the kitchen and called Alex.
"Hello?" It was Karen who answered.
Cordelia frowned. "Where's Alex?"
"He went out. His phone is with me. Do you need something?" Karen asked,
"At your age, doing such shameless things, I feel ashamed for you," Cordelia said coldly.
Karen hung up immediately.
Cordelia's face clouded with anger. She had hoped to avoid meddling in Evelina and Alex's affairs, but it now seemed inevitable. Regardless of whether Evelina chose to leave Alex, she wouldn't let Karen claim him without a fight. On the way home, Ethan was driving, taking Jasmine to see the scenery on the Whispering Willow Highway.
"It's already very late. Should we go home now?" Jasmine asked.
"Alright, whatever you say." Ethan nodded.
"I noticed Evelina seemed very unhappy tonight," Jasmine sighed.
"Alex came to Silverlight City this time because Karen and Evan were here. She must be feeling uncomfortable about it." Ethan also thought that Alex didn't handle this matter well. "If Evan really existed before Evelina, and he explained it properly, Evelina could understand. But his entanglement with Karen and the secrecy, that's just too much."
Jasmine blinked at Ethan and asked softly, "If this happened to you, how would you handle it?"
Ethan glanced at Jasmine. "I wouldn't let something like this happen."
"But what if you were Alex?" Jasmine looked at Ethan.
"Then I would tell you the truth. Since we are married and have so many years of feelings between us, I would do my best to get your support and listen to your opinion." Ethan reached out and held Jasmine's fingers. "I believe you would calmly analyze with me how to handle this matter correctly."
"If this matter upset you, then no matter what happened in the past, since it's over, it should stay in the past. We shouldn't dwell on it or stir it up again; it's unfair to you."
"If you agree to handle this matter with me, then we will be honest with each other and face it together."
Jasmine quietly leaned back in her seat, looking out the car window. "Yeah, it's something that could be easily resolved, but Alex, being so smart, handled it in such a heartbreaking way."
"There are two possibilities: one, he feels guilty and still likes Karen."
"Or he cares too much about his current marriage and wife, and he also wants to acknowledge his son over there. Because he and Evelina don't have children, he's afraid that if he doesn't handle it well, both sides will be affected, and in the end, neither will be handled well." Ethan glanced at Jasmine.
Jasmine nodded. "I think Evelina understands this in her heart, but Alex's way of handling it is just too infuriating."
Ethan's phone rang; it was Lisa calling.
Ethan frowned but answered the call. "Hello?"
"Ethan," Lisa started crying as soon as she called.
Ethan's face darkened. "Is Howard dead?"
"Ethan, Casey is missing. Have you seen him? Ethan, Casey is missing." Lisa was crying so hard she could barely breathe.
She had been looking for him all night.
"Casey is missing." Ethan's heart tightened as he looked at Jasmine.
Jasmine also looked at Ethan nervously. "Let's find the child first!"
