Chapter 388 Nolan Couldn't Accept Himself, He Ran Away
Nolan stood there in a daze, not reacting for a long time.
He thought he might have misheard.
'Impossible, I must have misheard.' Nolan thought.
"Let's go, Nolan, what are you doing?" Edgar asked, genuinely not having heard.
"What did Mom just say?" Edgar turned to ask Edward who touched his nose, chuckled, and said nothing.
Ethan walked into the living room, holding a child in each arm.
"Nolan?" Edgar walked to the door and looked back at Nolan, who was standing still.
Nolan stood there, not moving at all.
Edgar felt something was wrong with Nolan and ran over to speak quietly, "Nolan, what are you doing? Jasmine rarely comes over for dinner, don't always give her a hard time."
Edgar knew Nolan just didn't like Jasmine.
Nolan said nothing; his legs felt heavy.
He didn't mishear; Jasmine was his sister.
What did this mean?
Nolan pushed Edgar aside and quickly walked into the living room.
Edgar stumbled and almost lost his balance.
"The atmosphere at home is so weird today," Edgar said, looking confused.
He scratched his head and followed into the living room.
Nolan was breathing heavily, standing in the living room. "Mom, what did you just say?"
Edward coughed and spoke quietly, "Annabelle's paternity test result is fake; Sophia deliberately switched it. I privately took samples from Jasmine and Mom for a paternity test, and Jasmine is our sister."
Nolan's face turned pale; his fingers clenched unconsciously.
Clearly, he was having trouble accepting this fact.
It wasn't Jasmine's sisterhood he struggled to accept, but his past actions and harsh words towards her. "Mom, there must be some mistake," Nolan asked nervously, thinking there must be an error.
Cordelia shook her head. "I had Edward do multiple paternity tests privately, and they all came back the same."
Cordelia looked at Jasmine, then at Nolan. "Actually, deep down, you already know the answer."
Nolan gritted his teeth, his hands shaking as they clenched.
He glanced at Jasmine, then turned and left without looking back.
Clearly, he needed time to accept this.
Cordelia sighed, "Nolan has always been strong-willed since he was a child. He's the eldest in the family, so his personality is somewhat domineering. Jasmine, your brother doesn't reject you; he can't accept what he did to you before."
Jasmine glanced at Nolan's back, her emotions complicated.
In fact, she didn't dislike Nolan that much.
She knew Nolan wasn't a truly bad person; he was different from people like Daniel.
He was just sharp-tongued but kind-hearted and had never truly hurt her.
"I don't blame him," Jasmine shook her head.
But she couldn't bring herself to call Cordelia Mom.
It wasn't that she didn't want to acknowledge Cordelia as her mother, but she didn't know how to feel about calling her biological mother.
Jasmine's tears welled up in her eyes, and she took a deep breath to hold them back.
"No rush, no rush, Jasmine. From now on, I will always be with you. No one will bully you again," Cordelia hugged Jasmine, choking up as she comforted her.
At that moment, both mother and daughter found solace and redemption in each other.
Jasmine's misfortune seemed to be healed the moment she met her biological mother's care.
She was fortunate to have met Ethan, her biological mother, and her three brothers after experiencing darkness and pain.
"Jasmine, from now on, as long as I'm here, I won't let anyone bully you again," Edward said softly, his voice somewhat choked with emotion.
His biological sister had finally returned.
The heiress that everyone in the Cunningham family adored had finally come back.
Standing nearby, Edgar looked bewildered, glancing around in a panic. "Edward, Mom, what are you talking about?"
"Is Jasmine my sister?" At that moment, Edgar felt worse than if he had been heartbroken.
It was utterly embarrassing.
Jasmine was actually his biological sister? And he had previously boasted about wanting to marry her.
How humiliating.
"Not only is Jasmine your sister, but Joe is also your nephew. He is Jasmine's child, left at your doorstep by May. The only somewhat decent thing May did was known that Jasmine was a Cunningham, so when Joe needed a lot of money to survive, she sent him back to the Cunningham family," Ethan explained.
Cordelia's face was livid with anger. "That May! I won't let her get away with this."
"She has already been punished," Ethan reassured.
"That isn’t enough! Compared to the years of separation and suffering we endured, her punishment is far from enough!" Cordelia turned away, wiping her tears.
Jasmine's eyes were red, and she opened her mouth but couldn't say anything.
Edgar stood there, looking at Jasmine, and finally spoke after a long pause, "Jasmine, is this true?"
Jasmine looked up at Edgar. "I'm sorry, I didn't know."
"Jasmine is my mom." Joe ran over and hugged Jasmine.
"Joe is very smart, probably because of the mother-child bond," Cordelia said, rubbing Joe's head. "Indeed, they say that doing good deeds brings good fortune. When I saw Joe, I decided to keep him in the Cunningham family, regardless of whether he was our child or not."
Cordelia choked up as she spoke, grateful that she had made the right decision.
Edgar stood there in a daze, not moving.
For once, the room was eerily quiet.
"Mrs. Cunningham, Mr. Richard, and his wife are here," the butler announced as he entered.
Jasmine was taken aback and looked at Cordelia who gently tucked Jasmine's stray hair behind her ear, her voice hoarse.
"Richard is your brother, the one who raised Justin. He is also a poor child, and from now on, he will be my son."
Jasmine's eyes reddened, and she nodded emphatically.
At the door, Richard and Betty walked in, looking somewhat uneasy.
Richard had already heard from Ethan that Cordelia was actually Jasmine's biological mother.
"Mrs. Cunningham, this is our first visit, and we weren't sure what you would like," Richard said nervously; since she was Jasmine's mother, he and Betty had carefully chosen a gift.
"Come in," Cordelia said, getting up and walking over to hug Richard, patting his back. "Good child, from now on, this is your home. Jasmine is my daughter, and you are my son."
Cordelia was overjoyed, but she couldn't hold back her tears.
She had suddenly gained a daughter and a son.
Richard stood there nervously, looking helplessly at Ethan and Jasmine.
Seeing Richard's tense expression, Jasmine suddenly smiled. "Richard, Mom said that from now on, we are all her children."
Richard's eyes visibly reddened.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he tried to speak several times but couldn't make a sound.
Since childhood, he had never felt so-called motherly love.
That home made him feel oppressed and suffocated.
