Chapter 833 Lily said the Cunningham family is the biggest beneficiary
"Did Lily contact you?" Jasmine asked.
Ethan nodded.
"I thought using what Daniel had would lure out Kavi, but I didn't expect it to bring out Lily as well." Jasmine and Ethan both knew that the reason Lily was reaching out now was because of what Mark had. "It seems Mark is very crucial, the things he has are making several families very scared."
Lily now represented the Powell family, and Amara also represented the Powell family. The Powell family was currently divided into two factions, one group of stubborn people supported Lily because she had two sons. Amara, for the stubborn people in the Powell family, was still a woman, and her children didn't belong to the Powell family, so they were ultimately seen as outsiders.
However, many of the Powell Corporation's senior executives supported Amara because she was indeed a capable woman.
So, the Powell family was currently embroiled in a fierce internal struggle.
"The things Mark has not only scare Kavi but also the Powell family. Lily is representing the Powell family." Ethan looked at his phone and waited a few seconds before answering the call. "Mr. Douglas, I heard Jasmine has been found. That's good."
Lily seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and then spoke. "My people were still a step too late."
Ethan said nothing, letting Lily act.
Lily's ambition had grown increasingly large.
"Indeed," He said calmly.
"Mr. Douglas seems to still have a strong sense of caution towards me. Jasmine and I were once very good friends, but later we had some disagreements. Naturally, I do not want anything to happen to her," Lily said with a smile before continuing. "If Kavi is not dealt with, it seems no one will have peaceful life."
The Powell family was also affected by the evidence Mark had.
"I'm curious, Mark was just an illegitimate child of the Douglas family. Mr. Douglas initially provided him with some minor assistance, mainly through networking and a bit of financial support behind the scenes. What skill does he possess to access the core interests and evidence of so many families?" Ethan asked in a deep voice.
If Mark were still alive, they could asked him, but unfortunately, Mark was dead, and Claire was also dead, everything seemed to have come full circle. Everyone who knew Mark's secrets was dead.
"Mr. Douglas should not forget that there was someone behind Mark, right? Besides Kavi, there is also someone who knows all the families very well. This person should be someone close to you, possibly anyone you are familiar with, around the same age as Mark," Lily said smartly. Although she was only guessing, her general direction was correct.
Ethan had also suspected that there was definitely more than just Kavi behind Mark. Kavi made his fortune through black market dealings, he didn't possess much legitimate business acumen, otherwise he wouldn't have been outmaneuvered by Steven.
And the person backing Mark must be someone with a very sharp business mind. This person advised Mark to disrupt the business circle and profit from it, making them a formidable opponent.
"After going around in circles, who is really benefiting?" Lily asked calmly. "Mr. Douglas is a rare business genius, but unfortunately, the Douglas family has fallen, the Douglas Group has already ruined by Mark, gone bankrupt, and was acquired by you, a century-old enterprise destroyed."
After a moment of silence, Lily spoke again. "Now, among the former major families of Silverlight City, the Douglas Group has fallen, the Hawthorne family is embroiled in severe internal conflict, although Avery can still turn things around, Betty has left the Willer Group, the Willer Group already had internal problems, and now it's even worse, the Harper family has disappeared, almost wiped out, and the Cunningham family dominates the Silverlight City market."
She spoke calmly, with a hint of sowing discord.
Lily meant, currently, the biggest winner was the Cunningham family. "Cordelia is known for her strong business capabilities. After handing the company over to Nolan, she retired, but has she really let go? You don't seem to have suspected her."
Ethan's face instantly darkened. "Think before you speak."
Jasmine frowned as well, not understanding what had gotten into Lily.
"From the current results, the Hawthorne family and the Cunningham family have indeed benefited. Owen was also involved in the Mark incident, but he is stupid in losing to his own daughter. As for the Cunningham family, they now have the Raymond Group as a partner, you as a powerful son-in-law, Jasmine as the daughter who was found, and three sons who are all quite capable. The Cunningham Group went from being unable to establish a foothold in Silverlight City to now having a stable position in the market. It all looks like a business conspiracy."
Lily suspected the Cunningham family.
Back then, Cordelia returned to Silverlight City to open the market. But the Westing project failed, leading to her premature labor, and her biological daughter Jasmine was switched.
Everything seemed illogical, yet somehow intricately connected.
"It's only a matter of time before the Cunningham family breaks into the market in Silverlight City. With the capabilities of Nolan and Edward, it's inevitable that the Cunningham family will enter Silverlight City sooner or later. The Raymond Group and the Cunningham family are just bussiness partners, so there's no need for you to sow discord here," Ethan said, wanting to hang up the phone.
"Mr. Douglas, you are such a smart person, but unfortunately, you are also a sentimental one," Lily said provocatively before hanging up the phone herself.
Ethan frowned and looked at Jasmine. "Don't listen to her nonsense. This woman has lost her mind."
Jasmine nodded and leaned into Ethan's arms. "My mom would never do that. If she had any ambition, the Cunningham family wouldn't be in its current state."
"But there's one issue," Ethan said quietly. "Honey, don't get mad when I say this."
"Okay, go ahead," Jasmine said, feeling inexplicably nervous.
"Raymond found out that some of Kavi's underground dealings in Muskow were indeed connected to the Cunningham Group, especially regarding a cargo transportation issue at the import-export docks. Some of Kavi's goods were found to be hidden and transported by a company under the Cunningham Group. Of course, it could be that the drivers or management were bribed, but this is not a small matter," Ethan said. He originally didn't want to tell Jasmine to avoid worrying her, but some things needed to be investigated thoroughly.
Jasmine's heart tightened, and she looked at Ethan nervously. "Have you mentioned this to Edward?"
"After Edward took over the Cunningham Group, I asked him to investigate thoroughly. We should have results soon," Ethan reassured Jasmine.
"Do you really trust my family that much?" Jasmine sighed. "If it weren't for me, would you have suspected the Cunningham Group?"
Ethan patted her back. "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have interacted with your brothers, nor would I have gotten to know your mother. But through our interactions, I'm willing to believe them."
"The business world has always been prejudiced against female entrepreneurs. There have been many rumors about the Cunningham family and my mother Cordelia, saying that as a woman, she couldn't have gotten this far without someone helping her from behind. They say that someone must have been helping my mom, clearing obstacles for her, to get the Cunningham family to where it is now," Jasmine said quietly.
"It's possible that Arnold helped her from behind," Ethan nodded. "But that doesn't mean anything, it's just your mother's personal charm."
"But Arnold hadn't taken over the Sanders family and didn't have that kind of influence," Jasmine said nervously, looking at Ethan. Early on, when Cordelia took over the Cunningham Group and William left the Cunningham family, there was already a lot of gossip.
Ethan was silent for a moment, then shook his head. "Rumors stop with the wise. There are too many prejudices against women in this world."
Jasmine nodded emphatically. "Yes, I also want to believe in my mom."
She believed that the Cunningham family was not as Lily described.
