Chapter 897 The Truth About Avery Marrying Rhett
Avery didn't say anything, just sat quietly on the edge of the bed, watching Edgar.
Her feelings for Edgar were complicated.
From the first meeting, she felt a desire to possess and protect him. He cultivated a persona of vanity and avarice. She aimed to satisfy this by providing him with ample funds, bolstering his self-esteem and vanity.
Unfortunately, it was all a lie.
He wasn't short of money at all; he was a cynical and unfaithful man.
At that time, Avery felt she'd lived her life on eggshells, only to be deceived and manipulated—both physically and emotionally—by a playboy.
She found herself ridiculous.
But on second thought, it seemed like a good thing. Someone like her, with such a broken family background, was never meant to have a complete love.
And she had never put love first.
"You should go back to sleep." Avery stood up, asking Edgar to leave.
"So, no matter what, you will choose to abandon me." Edgar trapped Avery against the wall.
"I will keep the child, discard the father," Avery said calmly.
It was her only choice. She wanted the child in her belly.
"Fine," Edgar sneered. "Then let's use each other."
Edgar raised his hand, pressing Avery's head, and kissed her.
Avery didn't dodge, but she didn't respond either.
She looked at Edgar numbly.
How could a boy who grew up in sunshine and care truly fall in love with a broken and thorny rose like her?
Unless he was out of his mind.
"Is that enough?" Avery asked indifferently.
Had he kissed enough?
Edgar frowned.
He really wanted to knock some sense into her; being so calm was disrespectful.
"I'm sleeping here," Edgar pointed at the bed. "This is my house."
"Fine, I'll sleep on the couch," Avery was about to leave.
"The couch is mine too," Edgar said angrily.
Avery looked at Edgar, still so childish, unchanged.
"Fine, sleep then." Avery turned around and went back to the bed.
Edgar raised his eyebrows smugly, closed the door, and even locked it, to prevent Avery from running away in the middle of the night.
Avery sighed, lay down, and closed her eyes.
Edgar childishly moved closer to Avery, not daring to hold her directly, so he just pressed his back tightly against hers.
Avery took a deep breath helplessly. If he moved any closer, she would fall off the bed.
Seeing that Avery didn't resist, Edgar carefully turned over, looking at Avery's back.
She was really heartless.
Several times, Edgar wanted to hold Avery in his arms, but he didn't dare.
He didn't know how long it took, just when Edgar wanted to turn over and press his back against hers again, Avery turned over.
They faced each other, gazing into each other's eyes.
Neither of them spoke.
In the end, it was Avery who took the initiative to move closer, nestling into Edgar's arms.
Edgar was stunned, his body stiff.
It took him a long time to react, raising his hand to hold her tightly.
He wanted to say sorry, that he didn't have the ability to protect her.
But he felt it was meaningless.
"Rhett was never a good person. The Murray family and Kavi had close ties in the past, but Kavi didn't keep any evidence of the Murray family's crimes, not even Mark. This shows that the Murray family was very foxy," Avery whispered. "The Hawthorne family is a trouble, if Rhett wants to take over, let him, don't fight."
The Cunningham family shouldn't get into trouble.
"Are you planning to give up the Hawthorne family?" Edgar was shocked.
Avery never intended to marry Rhett to save the Hawthorne Group?
"Demons should go to hell together," Avery said meaningfully.
To Avery, the horror of her original family was beyond outsiders' understanding.
Since childhood, she grew up under her father's twisted education, hating and disgusted by everything.
The Hawthorne Group was the embodiment of sin.
She never truly wanted to save it.
"I will destroy everything my father cares about," Avery sneered. "So he wants to destroy me, drag me into this."
Owen was afraid Avery would destroy the Hawthorne Group, so he dragged her into prison.
"The Hawthorne Group is like a time bomb. If Rhett wants it, let him have it, but the fuse of this time bomb must be in my hands," Avery looked at Edgar. "You just do your thing, don't worry about me, I will handle it."
She didn't need anyone's help.
She had to walk her own path.
She wouldn't allow Edgar to be implicated by her.
"Do you think that people in love should share happiness but not hardships?" Edgar was angry because Avery always had her own ideas and always carried everything alone.
"I don't think so," Avery refuted Edgar's statement. "I think some unnecessary implications and harm should be avoided if possible. Besides, I am confident and capable of doing everything well. Since I can do it alone, why drag you into it? If I can't do it, I will definitely seek help, I'm not stupid."
Avery couldn't understand Edgar either.
Both of their ideas might not be wrong,= just different methods.
Edgar couldn't argue with Avery, so he chose silence and agreement.
What else could he do?
Avery was unique.
"You're not going back to Rhett's house, are you?" Edgar was angry.
"What else? We are husband and wife," Avery asked seriously.
Edgar almost choked himself with anger, Avery had the ability to infuriate him to death.
"You're carrying my child, and you want to go back to that pervert's house? Do you know he's a pervert?" Edgar disagreed, a bit agitated.
"Do you know I'm a ninth-degree black belt in martial arts?" Avery asked calmly.
This left Edgar dumbfounded.
"Besides, we are going back to my place. In Silverlight City, he lives at my place, the nanny, driver, and housekeeper are all my people. Does he still want to act recklessly?" Avery said in a deep voice.
"But..." Edgar still wanted to persuade Avery.
"But what? He's my husband," Avery said again.
Edgar gritted his teeth, looking down at Avery lying in his arms. "Then what am I?"
"Brother-in-law?" Avery raised an eyebrow.
"Avery!" Edgar was furious, propping himself up and trapping her beneath him, punching the pillow.
Avery looked at Edgar calmly. "Charlotte Ashbourne's sister was killed by Rhett."
Edgar was stunned, that little assistant who liked to compete with him for Avery?
"The Murray family and the Hawthorne family had been engaged in improper transactions for years, forming a money laundering network with Kavi. This evidence hasn't been uncovered yet," Avery whispered again. "Charlotte came to me to avenge her sister, so we must personally send Rhett to the firing squad."
Everything was part of their plan.
"I..." Edgar wanted to say, "Can't I help?"
But seeing Avery's expression, she wouldn't need him.
Great, being around Avery, he indeed felt like a useless person.
Because she didn't need him at all.
"Am I of no value to you at all?" Edgar asked, unconvinced.
"You are," Avery pointed seriously at her belly. "Isn't this some value?"
Edgar was furious, turned over, and went to sleep.
The next morning.
Rhett came to pick up Avery.
He replaced all the housekeepers and nannies in Avery's house with his people, thinking that this way he could control Avery at home.
Smirking, Rhett, the pervert, had already started fantasizing about how to make Avery obedient.
