Chapter 495 Richard Wants to Send Aleah to Jail

Sophia, with teary eyes, grabbed Richard's wrist. "Richard, Mom's doing this for you. I don't want you to get used. Betty's a schemer. She came from nothing; there's no way she's into a poor guy."

Sophia didn't trust Betty at all. She thought Richard, being Arnold's son, deserved better. She wanted them to divorce ASAP and cut ties cleanly. Betty was tough to deal with.

"She married you to stay under the radar. She controls everything in the Hughes family. If she married someone powerful, she'd draw too much attention. She's using you as a cover, you fool."

"Enough!" Richard snapped at Sophia. "I don't care why you showed up, saying you're my mother. I'm telling you, I don't want to have anything to do with you! I never will! Betty's my wife, and I trust her completely. Even if she wanted me dead, I chose her over you!"

With that, Richard slammed the door and left. The door, already weak, fell off its hinges. Sophia jumped back, startled.

Richard doubted every word she uttered. She had to expose Betty's true nature and prove to Richard she was the one who truly cared for him.

"Your son's a bit rebellious," Brade smirked.

"Our goal's the same: get Richard and Betty to divorce," Sophia reminded Brade.

"Yeah," Brade nodded. "I want them to split so I can get Betty and everything of the Hughes family. What's your reason?"

"I need my son's love," Sophia said calmly. "A man only sees his mom's worth after a woman breaks his heart."

She hoped Richard would eventually see that his mom was the only one who truly cared for him. If he listened to her, getting Arnold's assets would be easy. As long as her son obeyed, everything would be fine.

She wouldn't be like Karen, who raised her son only for him to turn against her. Evan resented Karen, he definitely wouldn't help her seize the family property.

Sophia thought Karen was foolish. Before revealing Richard's identity and having him help her fight for Arnold's assets, she had to make sure he was completely obedient to her. She had to take his heart away from a woman like Betty.

"Such twisted motherly love," Brade said sarcastically. "But since we share the same goal, I can help you."

"But I have one condition," Brade warned Sophia. "No matter what you do, if you harm her, I won't let you off."

Sophia sneered. "You're really a lovesick fool."

Brade looked at Sophia coldly. "I don't want this to drag on too long."

"It won't," Sophia said, determined.

At the police station, Betty leaned irritably on the chair, being interrogated over and over, giving statements and writing records.

"I told you, I didn't stab her. She tried to stab me, I grabbed the knife and threw it away! She went nuts and stabbed herself to frame me."

The officer frowned at Betty. "Please cooperate and speak properly."

"I've told you a million times! Check the surveillance footage."

Betty was anxious, worried that Brade might harm Richard, and desperate to see him. But the police wouldn't let her go.

"I've contacted my lawyer. Ask them if you have questions. Until you have proof I stabbed her, you can't detain me!" Betty was agitated and losing control.

She'd been through trauma before, and her emotions were hard to manage when triggered. She pounded the table, frustrated and wanting to leave. But the more she acted out, the less likely the police were to release her.

Betty rubbed her temples, trying to calm down. But then she snapped, throwing the chair and table in a frenzy, trying to get out. The police, of course, wouldn't let her go. She was being uncooperative, and they had the right to detain her.

"Sorry, my client has severe emotional disorders, depression, and mania. These are her past diagnoses, and her emotions are very sensitive. Any verbal provocation can trigger her condition," her lawyer explained, rushing in.

Richard also rushed in. "Haven't you found the evidence yet?" he asked David anxiously.

"We found it! There's a camera in the café across the street that caught it! I'll send it to you, Richard. Don't worry," David replied.

Richard sighed in relief. The evidence was solid. But the police frowned. "Given her condition, she needs a guardian."

"A Psycho should be in a mental hospital. Why let her out to harm others?" someone whispered.

Her unstable mental state made it impossible for them to believe she hadn't done anything wrong. They believed that even if a mentally ill person harmed someone, they wouldn't be legally responsible, but the guardian must be warned.

"You're making unfounded accusations against my client based solely on her condition. There's no evidence to support your claims, and I will sue you!" the lawyer snapped.

Meanwhile, Betty suddenly quieted down, her face pale. She hadn't heard anyone call her "psycho" in a long time. After being rescued by the police, she went crazy and stayed in a mental hospital for a long time before recovering. She was indeed a lunatic once.

"I have evidence!" Richard rushed in, showing the police the surveillance footage. "Aleah tried to stab my wife and falsely reported to frame her! She broke the law!"

Richard was genuinely anxious. Aleah had crossed the line, and he wouldn't tolerate it. The police were stunned, falling silent as they watched the footage. Indeed, Aleah had tried to stab Betty, who then took the knife and threw it away. Betty hadn't lied. She'd been telling the truth all along.

The officer who had called her phsyco looked at Betty apologetically. "Sorry."

"Can I leave now?" Betty asked, her face pale. The officer in charge nodded, and Betty finally left the interrogation room.

Richard hurried over, hugging Betty tightly. "It's okay now."

Betty's eyes reddened, and she sighed in relief in Richard's embrace. As long as Richard was okay, everything was fine.

"This time, we must hold them accountable," Richard said hoarsely. He wouldn't tolerate anyone harming Betty.
