Chapter 344 Nolan's Mouth Could Finally Shut
"I also want you to see how Ethan will choose in the end," Jasmine pushed Henry's arm away.
"Henry, I'm not the Jasmine I used to be. I am Justin's mother. I have a son, a lover, and a family. I won't let you manipulate me like before; I will fight back."
"Henry, I don't want to be enemies with you," she choked up, truly not wanting to reach the day of confrontation with him.
He remained silent, stood up, and held her hand to lead her out. "The food here doesn't suit your taste. I'll take you somewhere else to eat."
"How long are you going to force me?" She struggled hard but couldn't break free.
"Am I the reason for your pain when you're with me?" he asked.
"Henry, when I needed help the most, you stood by and watched. Your indifference felt like a crushing iceberg. You knew my innocence. You could have helped me, but instead, you used it to threaten me, to coerce me, to make me compromise. Seeing you reminds me of the past, and the past suffocates me."
She stared at him uncontrollably.
Every time she saw Henry, she remembered the courtroom scenes from years ago.
She felt like a soulless walking corpse, pushed to a dead end.
No one believed her, and no one reached out to help her.
All there was was endless threats against her.
Carmen and Karen told her that if she didn't confess, neither Justin nor Richard would fare well.
For the sake of her children, she had to confess.
That day was the darkest moment of her life, a nightmare.
The two men she once loved, one her most relied-upon brother, the other the fiance she thought she could trust for a lifetime.
They pushed her into hell, accusing her of extortion and intentional harm.
And Henry, sitting in the courtroom.
"The day I was sentenced, I looked at everyone sitting in the courtroom. I remembered every face."
He tightened his grip on her wrist, avoiding eye contact.
'I was wrong. I knew I was wrong.'
'But was one mistake unforgivable for a lifetime?'
'I wasn't the instigator, not the mastermind. I didn't lend a helping hand. '
'But wasn't Ethan also a bystander back then? '
'He didn't even know what she was going through. '
'Why did he deserve all of her?' he thought.
"Isn't Ethan the one who caused you a lifetime of pain? Wasn't it because Ethan entered the wrong room, hurt you, violated you, made you pregnant, gave birth to Justin, and endured six years of injustice for no reason? Why can he be with you?" He didn't understand.
'I don't understand what was good about Ethan.'
'Clearly, I loved her more than him.'
'I sacrificed more than him.'
'I knew her before he did.'
"Intentional harm or unintentional harm, which one is easier to accept?" She took a deep breath, no longer explaining.
"I want you to see that Ethan and others are no different; they are all ordinary people, and they all have desires. He won't be content to be trampled in the mud for a lifetime, absolutely not!"
He also lost control. He was determined to make her see how Ethan would choose.
"Alright, let's see." She reluctantly agreed.
The Cunningham Group.
When Jasmine returned to work, she still looked exhausted.
Nolan stood in the corridor, watching her.
"You don't work properly. You're always running around, provoking people you shouldn't." He frowned. His words were harsh, but he was concerned about her.
He clearly saw Henry bringing her back and wanted to check on her, but he ended up angering her.
She felt wronged, bowed her head, and ignored him.
"Henry from the SHC Group is not much inferior in status to Ethan. Now that you see Ethan being expelled from the Douglas family, do you want to turn back and flirt with Henry? You're quite something." He got even angrier when he saw she was ignoring him.
She still ignored Nolan, sitting back in her seat, feeling wronged.
He frowned and followed her.
Jasmine covered her eyes with her hands, wanting to be alone.
"What's with your attitude?" He deliberately tried to provoke her.
He just followed her to see if she liked the house.
"Are you free? Why do you always have to keep an eye on me for no reason? Can you let me be quiet for a while?" she burst out, stood up abruptly, and cried as she ran into the bathroom.
He stood still, completely confused by her sudden outburst of emotions.
After a moment of silence, he also felt angry, thinking, 'What did I say wrong?'
'Why she is crying?'
'Did Henry bully her?'
'If Henry bullied her , why does she lash out at me?'
His expression turned sour, very displeased.
"You're forgetting who you are more and more.. You're just an assistant, a company employee, and you dare to talk to me like this!" he said, very angry, looking at the other employees. "What are you looking at? Get back to work!"
The secretary coughed lightly, pointing to her wristwatch. "Nolan, it's not yet time to start work; there are five more minutes. Jasmine's having her own personal emotions is normal; it's not good to provoke her at this time."
"You, get out too!" He angrily entered his office.
Sitting in his chair, he grew angrier as he thought about it, picked up his phone, and called Henry.
"Henry, Jasmine is part of our Cunningham Group; you better tread carefully; don't do anything that would embarrass you."
He warned Henry not to provoke her again.
That meant she was now under his protection.
"You never cared about employees' personal matters. Why are you so free now?" Henry was also surprised Nolan was meddling so much. “Jasmine is excellent, after all. She's the woman I've set my eyes on. You don't happen to like Jasmine, too, do you?"
"You're mistaken. My relationship with Jasmine is private, and it won't affect her work. You can rest assured." Nolan warned.
Henry didn't want to say more to Nolan. He hung up directly.
Nolan looked at his phone, wondering, 'Why is everyone's attitude towards me so bad today?'
'How dare Henry hang up on me?'
"I heard that the SHC Group is facing a financial crisis recently. Is the Crestwood Development Group also competing with the SHC Group?" Nolan asked.
The secretary nodded. "Yes, the Crestwood Development Group is very strange and hard to figure out. At this time, they've turned their sights on the SHC Group and the Douglas family."
"Give the Crestwood Development Group more cooperation; don't let them collapse. Restraining the SHC Group and the Douglas family would help our group open up the Silverlight City market and further develop."
Nolan squinted, then spoke again, "Have the partners put pressure on the SHC Group? Henry has been too idle these days, neglecting the company and coming to here to provoke my people."
