Chapter 76 Jasmine Knew the Cause of Ethan's Mother's Death
Daniel was taken away by the police, but the banquet continued.
Ethan remained the most prominent figure at the entire banquet; countless people wanted to get close to him.
However, Ethan’s aura practically screamed, "Do not disturb."
This man, who almost dominated the business world, had an innate air of superiority.
"Mr. Douglas, care for a drink?" A female star approached, wanting to meet Ethan.
People in the circle knew that Ethan was not easily approachable when it came to relationships, but there were always those who thought highly of themselves and wanted to try.
If Ethan were to show interest in someone like her, it would be a dream come true.
The film and television company under Stellar Enterprises had always been a leader in the entertainment industry.
Who wouldn't want to sign with Stellar Enterprises, to become an artist under Ethan's company?
"Sorry, Mr. Douglas doesn't drink." Liam smiled and stepped forward, intercepting the alcohol.
Ethan held a champagne glass but was always looking at his phone screen.
He was waiting for a call from the hospital.
No call meant Jasmine hadn't woken up yet.
Furrowing his brows, Ethan felt he had been too lenient on Daniel earlier.
...
Hospital.
When Jasmine woke up, there was no one in the hospital room.
She took a deep breath and could feel that her throat was very dry.
The breathing mask had a plastic smell to it, making Jasmine feel uncomfortable.
Frowning, she struggled a bit, feeling like she had no strength in her body.
She had actually survived.
She felt incredibly dizzy; the side effects of losing too much blood had finally started to affect her.
"Miss Wilson, you're awake," A nurse came in and quickly assisted Jasmine. "Don't move for now. Stay still and keep lying down."
Jasmine curled up; her stomach was cramping in pain.
After walking in the icy wilderness last night for so long, her body had to have been aching.
"Miss Wilson, are you on your period?" Noticing the bloodstains on the bed, the nurse hurried to get sanitary pads.
Jasmine had lost quite a bit of blood last night.
Although she had been treated in time, having her period right now meant she was in for a tough time.
After saying thank you, Jasmine took off the blood oxygen monitor on her hand and tried to get out of bed.
"Where are you going? Mr. Douglas said you need to rest and stay here. He's coming over soon," the nurse called Ethan as soon as she realized Jasmine was awake.
"To the bathroom." Jasmine went into the bathroom and locked the door.
While sitting on the toilet, Jasmine rubbed her forehead, feeling a headache coming on.
Last night, on impulse, she had called Ethan.
But now, she needed to think clearly about one thing—she couldn't stay by Henry's side, especially since he wouldn't call off the engagement with Zelda.
As long as Henry didn't call off the engagement, she would never choose to stay by his side.
Now that she had completely offended Daniel, Evan, and the Brown family, if she chose not to withdraw the case, these people would continue to come after her.
So far, only Ethan could protect her.
But why would Ethan help her?
What could she offer Ethan?
Jasmine's anxiety flared up again, and she began biting her fingers.
She had to come up with a solution quickly, or she really might die.
Her body trembled stiffly, and her hands shook continuously.
The anxiety had long since manifested physically. Sometimes she felt like being alive was worse than death.
What could she offer Ethan?
What could she make sure they were even?
"What’s the relationship between Miss Wilson and Ethan? I've never seen Ethan show interest in any woman before."
"That's Ethan; the one we always see in the news. Have you heard about the gossip surrounding the Douglas family, specifically about the feud between Ethan and his brother, Daniel?"
"I heard that Daniel's mom was Ethan's father’s mistress, and she got rid of his mom to take her place. She even wants to use her twins to compete for the Douglas family's inheritance and the rights to Stellar Enterprises."
Even the nurse at the hospital had heard various gossip about the Douglas family.
While sitting in the bathroom, Jasmine bit her finger, feeling her hand stiffen.
She knew a secret.
Ethan's mom was indeed killed by Daniel's mom; she had heard it with her own ears.
Although rumors could be false, sometimes there was truth behind them.
Given Ethan's current status, it was unlikely that he didn't know the true cause of his mother's death. He and Daniel had always been at odds.
Daniel had spoken about his desire to take everything away from Ethan, to bring him down from his pedestal and trample him underfoot numerous times.
"Mr. Douglas!"
When Ethan arrived, the nurse anxiously and shyly called out, "Miss Wilson has been in the bathroom for a while and hasn't come out.”
Ethan glanced at the bathroom's location and quickly walked over. "Jasmine?"
Startled, Jasmine got up in a panic and fumbled to open the bathroom door.
Ethan was also about to open the door, and the two collided.
Instinctively stepping back, Jasmine nervously lowered her head and softly said, "Thank you..."
Ethan breathed a sigh of relief.
Despite Jasmine's unwell appearance and the bandage around her neck, she seemed to be out of immediate danger, unlike last night.
Her cold touch made him feel like he was holding a dead person.
"Have you figured out what you’re going to do?" With the nurse gone, Ethan led Jasmine into the bathroom and asked in a low voice.
Jasmine whispered, "The police came, and I pretended to be asleep." She kept looking down; she was unsure of how to face him.
Ethan frowned. "What? Still have feelings for Daniel?" His expression was not pleasant.
If she still had feelings for Daniel after he treated her like that, then she was reaping what she had sown.
"Daniel has a hundred ways to absolve himself; I know him very well." Clasping her hands tightly, Jasmine looked up at Ethan. "You can’t use my injury to permanently bring down Daniel. It’s not realistic."
Ethan narrowed his eyes, his gaze deep as he looked at Jasmine. "Oh?"
Did she think he would help her just to bring down Daniel?
He disdained the idea of using a woman to deal with Daniel.
Moreover, Daniel wasn't worth his effort.
"I've thought it through..." Jasmine gathered her courage and looked directly into Ethan's eyes. "You mentioned before that you needed a woman by your side to handle certain troubles. I can do that."
Jasmine clenched her hands, bit her lip, and spoke again. "Mr. Douglas, let's cooperate. I know who killed your mother, as well as Daniel, and his mother’s weaknesses. The things you can't do... I can."
All she could do was help Ethan, to eliminate the threat from Daniel and his mother.
As the eldest son of the family, if Ethan went too far, he would be criticized.
But she was different.
As long as she could ensure Justin and Richard's safety, she was willing to do anything.
She wasn't afraid of death.
Ethan's eyes grew even deeper, and he reached out to grasp Jasmine's chin.
Jasmine's eyes were clear; she was not foolish enough to play stupid games.
She was scheming.
Calculating how to use him.
Smirking, Ethan became more interested in Jasmine. He wanted to see what surprises this woman could bring him.
"What do you know?" Ethan's voice was hoarse.
"I once heard Daniel's mother say that if she hadn't bribed someone at the sanatorium to switch your mother's medication, Daniel would still be hiding in the shadows. He would still be an illegitimate child who couldn't step into the limelight."
Jasmine looked at Ethan intently, as if afraid he wouldn't believe her. "I'm not lying; you can check for yourself."
"Does Carmen know that you overheard her conversation?" Ethan furrowed his brow whenever he referred to Daniel's mom, Carmen.
