Chapter 258 The Harper Family's Plan Failed from the Start
Annabelle felt uneasy. She sat on the edge of the bed, looking at herself in the mirror, and wondered, "Am I really so different from Cordelia? What will I do if I am exposed? It is clear that Ethan doesn't believe I am Cordelia's biological daughter. If Ethan questions and demands a paternity test, everything will fall apart."
Annabelle anxiously clenched her hands, feeling her heart rate quicken. She had underestimated Ethan's love for Wilson. She had thought Ethan only cared about his interests and would agree to any union with a Cunningham Family daughter. But she hadn't expected that he would take it so far for Wilson, revealing the marriage license in front of everyone from the Cunningham Family and embarrassing Nolan.
She thought to herself, "Ethan even dared to offend Nolan. Is he crazy? Has he gone mad for Wilson? What means has Wilson used to make Ethan treat her like this?"
Biting her finger, Annabelle decided to take the initiative. She thought, "Tomorrow, I'll go and talk to Ethan. If he is willing to cooperate, it will be a win-win situation. But if Ethan doesn't agree, then he is forcing me into a corner. I absolutely cannot lose, and my true identity must not be revealed. Ethan is a big threat. This time, I have no way out. If I can't have Ethan, then I can only destroy him. Don't blame me for being heartless, Ethan."
The atmosphere in the dining room remained tense, with Ethan and Nolan still glaring at each other. But this didn't stop Edgar from eating. He didn't seem to care at all. "Wilson, try this. It's made by our maid, Hazel. I've been eating her food since I was a child, and it tastes really good, just like yours."
Edgar was sweet-tongued and knew how to make a girl happy. Wilson nervously grabbed onto Ethan's sleeve. They were about to start a fight, and she had no appetite to eat.
Edward walked in and, seeing the tense atmosphere in the dining room, glanced at Edgar and asked, "Where is Mom?"
Edgar let out a sigh of relief as if he had found his savior. "Edward, come over here. Nolan isn't eating properly and wants to pick a fight."
Edward walked over and smiled at Wilson. "Miss Wilson, we meet again. You look beautiful today."
Ethan snorted and thought to himself, 'None of these people in this family are good. I must keep Wilson away from the Cunningham Family. They are all too dangerous.'
"Thank you, Mr. Edward," Wilson quickly stood up and thanked him with a lowered head.
"Don't be so nervous, we are friends now. Please have a seat," Edward looked around again. "I have some matters to attend to here. Edgar, where did mom go?"
"She took Joe to find Annabelle, I think," Edgar signaled to Edward with his eyes.
Edward finally glanced at Nolan. "Nolan, we have guests here, don't be so serious. It's impolite, and Joe is still at home. You need to set a good example for him. If Joe goes out without any manners, people will gossip about our Cunningham Family," Edward mocked.
Edgar quickly nodded. "Exactly, don't spoil my son."
Nolan felt like he would be driven crazy by his two stupid brothers sooner or later. "Why don't you both see things from my perspective?"
"You are targeting Wilson, a young girl. You have no manners," Edward reminded Nolan in a low voice.
Nolan coldly snorted, "When did I target Wilson? I only targeted Ethan."
"Today, he is our guest. Nolan, you need to learn more social skills from Edgar, or you will be single for your entire life," Edward glanced at the time. "Alright, I have things to attend to. You continue with your meal. Wilson, don't be restrained. Nolan always puts on a cold and serious appearance, don't mind him."
Wilson couldn't help but smile.
"What are you laughing at?" Nolan snorted.
Wilson held back her laughter, lowered her head, and thought, 'The Cunningham Family is quite friendly, except for Nolan's bad temper.'
"She can laugh if she wants to. Her laughter means she's happy, which is none of your business," Edgar rolled his eyes and helped Wilson take some food from the plate. "Don't pay attention to him. Let him continue arguing with Ethan. Let's continue our meal."
Ethan snorted and ignored Nolan.
Nolan also snorted and looked away.
In short, the atmosphere in the restaurant was still very strange.
"Mom." Edward knocked on the bedroom door and looked at Joe playing with toys. "Joe, go find your dad."
Joe blinked his eyes. "Uncle Edward, did you see my Mom? My Mom looks so beautiful today."
Edward chuckled at Joe's antics. Joe was always boasting about his "Mom".
But Edward couldn't help but feel sorry for Joe.
The Cunningham Family treated Joe well. Even though his father, Edgar, was unreliable, he definitely loved Joe.
But Joe grew up lacking a mother's love, and because of that, he bragged without reservation, as if he wanted to tell the whole world that his mom was the most beautiful mom.
"Joe, your mom is very beautiful," Edward rubbed Joe's head and placed a lollipop in his hand. "Go find your mom."
Joe happily ran out of the door.
"Did you find out?" Cordelia put down her phone, took off her glasses, and looked at Edward.
Edward nodded.
Before he could speak, Cordelia made a shushing motion.
She got up and walked to the door, looking around cautiously, and then closed the door.
"You guessed right. Annabelle bribed the people from the appraisal institution in advance," Edward said in a low voice.
Cordelia's face immediately turned grim.
She thought to herself, 'She really is an impostor. However, Annabelle's acting is so convincing that I almost believed her.'
"I investigated the nurse. She was very cautious. There are no suspicious funds in her account. However, a substantial amount of money has recently appeared in her son's account," Edward said in a low voice.
"It seems that the Harper Family is quite bold," Cordelia's eyes darkened, and she lowered her voice.
"And, while investigating this nurse, I also found an unexpected surprise," Edward accompanied Cordelia to the balcony. "This nurse is retired, with a monthly pension of around one thousand dollars, yet her son attends the best schools from a young age, receiving an aristocratic education. In addition, she owns a fully paid house worth 1.6 million dollars in the prime area of Silverlight City. This is something that a nurse and her taxi driver husband couldn't have accomplished."
The nurse is very cautious. They live a very frugal life, and all their income and property are transferred under their son's name.
"This nurse's son, Harry Anderson, is a high-ranking executive of the Harper Family's food company." That's why the Harper Family executed this plan so perfectly.
