Chapter 281 Wilson's Manipulation
Bellagio Hotel.
Ethan brought Wilson to the hotel. They could only temporarily stay there for now.
"Mr. Ethan. Mr. Gu, sorry, but you are no longer the President of the Douglas family," the hotel receptionist said with difficulty. It was clear that Daniel, in seeking revenge against Ethan, had revoked his authority at the hotel.
Ethan took a deep breath, about to say something, but Wilson interrupted him.
"We're not staying here, Ethan. Let's go to my brother's place for now. Once I find a house, we can move out," Wilson held Ethan's hand, leading him away with heartfelt concern.
She didn't want Ethan to be humiliated by the hotel staff.
Howard and Daniel had gone all out in their actions. They wanted to force Ethan to realize his current situation.
"Ethan, I didn't expect you to end up like this," Zelda appeared at the elevator exit. "Wilson, my sister is the long-lost eldest daughter of the Cunningham family. Ethan is nothing more than a wretched dog now. Let's see who will protect you this time."
Wilson's body tensed up upon hearing Zelda's voice.
Zelda, she actually came back.
"I remember telling you that if you ever returned to Silverlight City, you'd be looking for trouble," Ethan's eyes darkened.
It seems that the Harper Residence has become arrogant, thinking that Ethan is down and out, so they brought Zelda back.
Wilson took a deep breath and turned to look at Zelda.
She looked much thinner than when she went abroad, with dark circles under her eyes. She appeared worn out, indicating that life abroad wasn't as comfortable as it seemed.
After all, she couldn't bully others outside and no one would fear her family background.
"Ethan, you are nothing now, what qualifications do you have to threaten me? What else can you do to me?" Zelda laughed. "My sister is the eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family, and my brother-in-law Daniel is now the CEO of Stellar Enterprises, unlike you."
Zelda boasted arrogantly. "Who would be afraid of you, Ethan? Without the support of Stellar Enterprises, who do you think you are? You are penniless and have nothing. Even hotels won't let you stay. I'm just waiting for you."
Wilson raised her hand and slapped Zelda.
The sound of the slap echoed in the hotel lobby.
Zelda was shocked and looked at Wilson, unable to react for a moment.
Ethan also glanced at Wilson and smiled.
With him by their side, Wilson could do whatever she wanted.
"You dare to hit me," Zelda didn't finish her sentence when Wilson slapped her again.
Zelda was dumbfounded and wanted to retaliate.
Ethan looked at Zelda coldly. "You can try. I have nothing now, I can't guarantee that I won't do anything outrageous."
Zelda's chest heaved with anger, and she had to admit that she was still afraid of Ethan. She was afraid when she saw his eyes.
"Ethan, if you had obediently married my sister back then, you wouldn't be so unlucky now. Wilson brought you misfortune, yet you are still protecting her," Zelda covered her face and said angrily.
Wilson protected Ethan and his voice, though soft, contained a coldness. "Annabelle is already the eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family now. It's normal for the Harper Residence to bring you back, but how can they let you stay in a hotel?"
Wilson looked innocent. "Zelda, you were Henry's fiancé before, and everyone adored you. Your sister was jealous of you."
Wilson hesitated.
Taking a deep breath, Wilson spoke again. "Now your sister is the eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family and married to Daniel. They got married and registered, but they made you stay in a hotel after you returned to the country. What does that imply? It means she's embarrassed by you and afraid that if you return to the Harper Residence and are seen by people, it will have a negative effect on the Harper Residence and, subsequently, her position."
Wilson deliberately spoke for Zelda to hear. Although she was sowing discord, everything she said was true. Zelda became angry and exclaimed, "Stop trying to drive a wedge between us!"
Wilson continued, "Then why are you living alone in a hotel? You don't even have any friends around you. Look, I hit you and you didn't even dare to fight back. Back when you used to bully others, there would always be a group of people supporting you. So, how come they're nowhere to be found now?"
"Because your sister forbade you from associating with those people, right? Look, now your sister has the power over the Harper Residence. If you can't find a man with a better background than Daniel, you'll forever be held down by your sister."
Wilson's face showed remorse. "In the past, whenever the Harper Residence was mentioned, everyone thought of you, Henry's fiancé Zelda. But now? Whenever the Harper Residence is mentioned, everyone knows the eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family, Annabelle. No one remembers you anymore."
Zelda, who was accustomed to being praised, let her vanity overshadow everything else.
"In the beginning, it was your sister's self-preservation that forced her to abandon you and send you abroad to suffer," Wilson said, leading Justin and Casey while Ethan held Joe, as they turned and left.
Zelda stood alone in the hotel, her face pale.
Some estrangement is like a seed that, once rooted and sprouted in one's heart, will endlessly grow.
Since childhood, Annabelle had always felt that their parents favored Zelda, and Zelda didn't want Annabelle to surpass her.
"I'm sorry I promised you to drive Zelda out of Silverlight City," Ethan apologized quietly.
He was determined to make Zelda pay the price, but he didn't expect the Harper Residence to be so eager to bring Zelda back at this moment.
"No rush," Wilson shook his head. "Let the two sisters tear each other apart. Zelda is not a threat. She has lost her sanity, and no one can save her now."
Wilson sighed, his thoughts complex.
Once, he held a grudge against Zelda and even dreamt of killing her with a knife.
But now, seeing Zelda once again, he only felt pity for her.
"Did you notice the change in her appearance? She kept covering her arms. Even though it's late autumn, the sunshine is good. She used to always wear spaghetti strap dresses or short sleeves, but she's wearing long sleeves for the first time." Wilson guessed that Zelda must have come into contact with something she shouldn't have while abroad.
She deserved it.
Ethan nodded. "I'll have someone check it out."
Wilson quickly shook his head. "Let me handle it."
She was afraid that Ethan's current identity change would also change the attitudes of those under him, which would make him sad.
Perhaps she had experienced similar things herself, so she always wanted to protect Ethan tightly and be involved in everything.
Ethan looked at Wilson with pity and pulled him into his arms.
He knew that after Wilson was exposed as not being the Xu family's daughter, he had seen the harsh reality.
"The thin camel is bigger than the horse. I am not the kind of person who sits and waits for death." Ethan rubbed Wilson's head. "You just need to know that I will always be your backing and support. With me, you can do anything you want, and I will always stand behind you."
"I believe you. Wherever you are, the Douglas family is there. Without your Douglas family, it's not a complete Douglas family." Wilson believed in Ethan.
She had never doubted Ethan's abilities.
"Dad, Mom, did you forget about us?" Justin whispered.
Joe and Casey looked resentfully at Wilson and Ethan, who were preparing to leave while fastening their seat belts.
Wilson came to his senses and quickly got out of the car, apologetically looking at the three little ones standing outside. "Sorry, we thought you had already gotten in the car."
Justin sighed. "Dad locked the car as soon as he got on, and we didn't have time to get in."
Ethan cleared his throat and guiltily got out of the car to open the door for the little ones.
