Chapter 676 Ethan Was Once Kidnapped
"After learning about Ethan's kidnapping, the only person who knows what really happened is probably Connor. All the other insiders have disappeared."
Ben knew very well that Ethan's kidnapping back then was not that simple, as he had spent a lot of effort to investigate it.
And the fact that Ethan had been kidnapped was never reported by the media.
That was very unusual.
The police had never reported that the kidnappers were caught either. When Ben went to the police investigating it, they only said that the Douglas family had voluntarily withdrawn the case, claiming Ethan was found and had just gotten lost, not kidnapped.
Jasmine looked at the documents in her hand, her breath trembling as she turned the pages.
She had thought about learning about Ethan's past, but she assumed that a rich kid like Ethan, with his mother protecting him, must have had a carefree childhood.
Could he have really gone through something so terrifying?
"Six years old." Jasmine looked up at Ben. "He was only six when he was kidnapped."
The same age as Justin and Joe.
Jasmine couldn't imagine how a six-year-old child, accustomed to a life of luxury, would feel such despair and fear after being kidnapped.
So many days, Howard truly deserved to die.
In the end, the Douglas family just let the matter drop?.Even Ethan's mother could keep it a secret. Who were the kidnappers?
Were they connected to the people plotting against the Douglas family?
"Can't we find the kidnappers?" Jasmine asked, her voice trembling. She was almost unable to hold the documents.
"We can't find them. It's like someone deliberately protected them, and it must be someone from the Douglas family or Ethan's grandfather's family, the Hamilton family. Otherwise, his mother loved him so much, and the Hamilton family, though declining at the time, still had enough power to easily catch a kidnapper."
Ben couldn't figure it out either. Unless the kidnappers were connected to these two families, there was no other explanation.
After all, it was the son of the Douglas family who was kidnapped.
William Douglas was at the peak of his power back then. How could he just watch his beloved grandson get kidnapped and let the kidnappers go?
"There must be a story behind this," Jasmine said in a low voice. "Find a way to keep investigating."
Maybe, by uncovering the truth about Ethan's kidnapping, they could also find out who was behind all the events.
Connor's residence, where Tom cared for injured Connor after work.
"Don't move around." Seeing Connor about to touch the water, Tom rushed over. "Didn't the doctor say your hand can't touch water? Especially cold water."
Connor rubbed his temples, turned to the living room, and wanted to get some water from the fridge, only to find it stuffed with snacks.
Connor looked at Tom with a dark expression. "Did you turn my house into a warehouse? Where did you buy all this?"
Tom spoke with a grievance, "My mom still won't let me go home, so I had to store them here."
Connor looked at Tom like he was an idiot and grabbed a bag of snacks.
Tom was surprised. "You eat snacks? I thought you didn't."
Connor ignored Tom.
"Connor, it's New Year. Shouldn't you calculate my extra salary? Didn't you promise to buy me a Cullinan? Or I could reluctantly take the one you've driven? Don't be so stingy."
Connor found Tom annoying and slammed the door shut.
Tom said Connor wouldn't be frugal.
Who knew Connor would soon come out of the bedroom, grabbing his coat before heading out. "Tomorrow, go buy some jewelry, the kind middle-aged women like. It doesn't matter if it's expensive; I'll pay."
Tom nodded seriously. "For whom?"
Connor replied, "Buy it and give it to my mom."
Tom was stunned. "Me? Give it to your mom? What should I say?"
"Just say you're her future daughter-in-law," Connor said nonchalantly, grabbing his coat and heading out.
Tom was shocked. Connor could joke too?
"I'm kidding. Buy it and give it to your mom to ease the tension between you two. Get out of my place," Connor said disdainfully. "What did you do to make your mom not let you go home?"
Tom snorted, knowing Connor had no good intentions, and whispered, "She was about to relent and let me bring Ethan home for New Year. I just said Ethan might be dead, and she ordered people to 'hunt' me down, so I don't dare go home."
Connor ate a cashew. If Ethan knew about this, he might 'hunt' Tom down too.
"You're still injured. Why are you going out in the middle of the night?" Tom frowned at Connor.
Connor thought Tom was more nagging than a woman. "Going out for a bit. Shut up and go to sleep. Stop browsing shopping apps; the house is full of your packages."
Connor drove to the private hospital in San Fransisco at night, ensured he wasn't followed, and took the elevator to the top floor.
The top floor was a sterile area. Connor went through full disinfection and changed into protective clothing before entering the ward.
This was Connor and Raymond's private hospital, where Ethan was safe.
But Ethan always risked his life to run out.
As soon as he entered the corridor, Connor heard muffled screams of pain.
Undoubtedly, it was Ethan--no one else.
"You're almost dead, yet you still want to run out to find Jasmine." Connor sighed, suddenly unsure if placing Jasmine by Ethan's side was right or wrong.
Was it salvation or another hell?
"Dr. Hawthorne, the necrotic epidermis of the deep wound needs to be removed. After debridement, a third skin graft surgery is required. This is a very painful process, and he may need psychological intervention." The nurse came out with red eyes.
The sterile ward allowed for exposed treatment, but the pain was still unbearable.
During these days and nights in the hospital, Ethan had endured countless pains.
Every time he barely recovered, he would run out to find Jasmine, to comfort Jasmine, eager to let Jasmine know he was still alive.
"Madman." Connor thought Ethan was a madman, always had been.
Ethan was actually very obsessive, and Connor had always known that.
He was the one who most needed salvation.
The ward faintly echoed with painful struggles, the agony of having necrotic flesh peeled away after burns, not just physical pain but also mental torment for the injured.
"Dr. Saunders said he's never seen anyone endure so much." The nurse's eyes were red.
Connor remained silent.
Of course, Ethan could endure.
In the past, he lived for revenge for his mother; now, he lived for Jasmine.
Clearly, the power of love in Ethan surpassed hatred.
