Chapter 493 Team Up Against Betty

"He might treat you well, Jasmine, but I'll love you better. You deserve to be treated with respect, always. Past kindness doesn't excuse bad behavior."

Ethan was usually rational, except when it came to Jasmine.

Jasmine opened her mouth but stayed silent.

That's the way it is, I suppose. People forget the bad and only remember the good, even if it's not the whole truth.

Aleah and Brade were on the phone at the coffee shop.

"Don't rush to see Sophia yet. Follow my instructions first," Brade reminded Aleah.

Aleah gripped her phone nervously. "Mr. Hughes, Betty is kind of scary."

"Scared? Richard's identity might be complicated," Brade said impatiently.

"No, it's just..." Aleah's breathing tightened. "I'll listen to you, but this probably won't do any harm to Betty. The police will investigate."

"Just do your part. Don't worry about the rest. My target is Richard, not Betty," Brade said calmly.

Aleah was scared but hung up and chased after Betty.

Outside, Betty was waiting for her driver and bodyguard.

"Betty," Aleah's voice trembled. "I have no choice. I need to survive."

Aleah approached Betty and suddenly pulled out a knife.

Betty frowned, grabbed her wrist, and took the knife away.

She played with the knife and sneered, "You can't beat me."

Betty threw the knife in the trash and walked away.

Aleah whispered, "Betty, I don't want to do this. I know you're a good person, but I have to survive."

Betty left the coffee shop, and David ran over. "Boss, it's all taken care of."

"Brade sent me a big gift; I have to return the favor. He has a shipment at the dock. You know what to do, right?" Betty smiled at David.

David nodded. "I'll handle it."

Brade was always up to no good, Betty had a secret weapon, a mole positioned to watch him, ready to act when he opened the Silverlight City market. This time, Brade might be testing the waters, but Betty would crush it before it started. It would also serve as a warning to Brade.

"Richard called and said dinner is ready," Ryder said, walking over.

Betty nodded. "Let's go home."

"Richard," Ryder hesitated, unsure how to explain today's events.

"If he asks, just say I had a meal with Aleah. If Aleah is smart, she won't bother Richard anymore," Betty said. This was her last bit of mercy towards Aleah. There wouldn't be a next time. Richard wouldn't tolerate her forever. For Richard's sake, Betty had been lenient enough with Aleah.

"Yes."

Richard finished cooking and called David. "Keep an eye on her. Don't let her do anything dangerous."

Richard was worried about Betty's safety. Ethan said Brade had been acting up a lot lately.

"Got it, Richard. Boss just had a meal with Aleah. We're on our way back now," David said with a smile.

Before the call ended, Richard heard police sirens.

"Richard, I have to go," David said urgently and hung up.

Richard's face darkened, and he quickly walked out. Something must have happened. Aleah came prepared today.

Betty's car was stopped by police on the overpass. She frowned at the sight.

"What's going on?" David asked as he got out.

"Someone reported an assault at a restaurant. The victim said Betty stabbed her."

Aleah had stabbed herself and claimed Betty did it, with Betty's fingerprints on the knife handle. The restaurant had no surveillance cameras.

Betty sneered and stretched. She had been set up. "I thought she would behave," she said calmly. From now on, Aleah would face the consequences. Betty had given her countless chances, but Aleah didn't cherish them.

"Betty, please come with us to cooperate with the investigation."

"Boss," David and Ryder looked at Betty nervously.

"It's okay. You guys go back and find the surveillance footage," Betty said to David meaningfully.

David nodded and left with Ryder. Betty followed the police.

On the way, Betty quietly looked out the window. Aleah probably didn't have the guts; it must have been Brade's arrangement. Was Brade trying to warn her or use this to threaten her? Did he think the Silverlight City police were like those in some other country, just going through the motions and only listening to his side of the story?

Clearly, Aleah's case wouldn't hold up with the police, and she probably didn't stab herself too hard. A minor injury would likely be settled privately, especially if David found the surveillance footage, making Aleah's story even less credible.

What was Brade's real goal? Betty rubbed her temples, feeling a headache. Brade was a difficult lunatic to deal with.

"Richard." Suddenly thinking of something, Betty sat up straight, nervous. "Officer, I need to make a call to confirm something."

"Sorry," the police refused.

Betty nervously clenched her hands. Brade was targeting Richard this time! What did he want to do?

Richard drove to the coffee shop and hurriedly grabbed David, who was still looking for surveillance footage. "Where is she?"

"Aleah, that crazy woman, stabbed herself and then called the police, saying Betty did it. What a joke! This lunatic! We're looking for surveillance footage; we'll definitely find it," David said anxiously.

Richard's face was grim, his hands numb from clenching. Aleah was exhausting all his patience.

"I'm going to the hospital," Richard checked the time and prepared to find Aleah. No matter what she wanted or planned, this time, she had crossed the line.

Richard's phone rang; it was an unknown number.

"Hello?" Richard's voice was low.

"Richard, can we meet now?" It was Brade on the other end. He had been trying to meet Richard for a long time, but Richard had refused.

"In your dreams." Richard was afraid he couldn't control his impulse to kill him.

"This incident is just a warning. You still won't meet me?" Brade threatened.

"What do you want?" Richard gritted his teeth.

"Come alone, don't tell anyone, to the Dreamwave Ocean scrapyard. I want to see you," Brade instructed. "If you bring anyone, you might regret it."
