Chapter 670 Jasmine, Happy New Year
Behind the curtain, Jasmine's body stiffened as she listened warily to the sounds in the living room.
Was it her imagination or an illusion?
Slowly pulling back the curtain, Jasmine glanced into the dimly lit living room.
The room was dark, but the fireworks outside cast a shadow.
He was just standing there.
Just standing there, he looked like a god who suddenly appeared in the darkness to save her.
Jasmine knelt on the ground, her whole body rigid. She wanted to say something but couldn't make a sound.
She feared this was a dream, that when she woke up, everything would be an illusion.
"Jasmine," Ethan spoke again, his voice hoarse as if his vocal cords were injured. "I'm so hungry."
Jasmine stood up in a panic, looking at Ethan, and stumbled over to him.
"You." Jasmine was trembling all over, her hands tightly gripping Ethan's clothes.
Was he really there?
"I'm back." Ethan opened his arms, his voice choked with emotion.
Jasmine broke down instantly, hugging Ethan and crying.
The taut string finally loosened.
Ethan hugged Jasmine tightly, holding her as if he wanted to merge her into his body.
"Are you leaving again?" Jasmine asked softly, afraid that Ethan would disappear again.
"Maybe I still need to leave for a while." Ethan smiled, patting Jasmine's back reassuringly. "You can do well even without me."
Jasmine closed her eyes and shook her head desperately.
She didn't want to be alone anymore.
She was scared.
"You can do well even without me," Ethan cupped Jasmine's cheeks and whispered. "Don't be afraid, I'll always be here."
"They said you were dead." Jasmine clung to Ethan's clothes. "Is this a dream? Are you a person in a dream?"
Deborah said he died of organ failure and infection after the burns.
Ethan lowered his head and kissed Jasmine's lips, gently biting them. "Is this a dream?"
Jasmine looked at Ethan and reached out to turn on the light.
"Don't." Ethan pulled Jasmine back, hugging her tightly from behind. "Don't turn on the light."
Jasmine's whole body stiffened and began to tremble.
She probably guessed why Ethan was afraid of her turning on the light.
"The burns are severe, right?" Jasmine forced herself to stay calm and strong as long as he was alive.
"Yes," Ethan responded. "I sneaked out."
Ethan chuckled. "Hurry up, Connor will come soon."
If the hospital called Connor, he would definitely come to catch him.
Unfortunately, Ethan didn't know that the hospital couldn't reach Connor anymore.
"Connor." Jasmine looked at Ethan warily. "Is he trustworthy?"
"Not trustworthy." Ethan shook his head seriously, then earnestly hugged Jasmine and nuzzled her. "You only need to trust me."
Jasmine felt heartache hearing Ethan's hoarse voice, but seeing his energetic demeanor, his injuries should be almost healed, right?
"Just in the hospital, there won't be any more danger, right?" Jasmine confirmed again and again.
"I promise." Ethan wanted to reassure Jasmine.
Jasmine was half-convinced. "Then I'll turn on the light. I want to see your injuries."
Jasmine went to turn on the light, but Ethan still held her tightly, refusing to let go.
"Don't turn on the light. Don't look at me. I'm afraid I'll scare you," Ethan whispered.
"I'm not afraid." Jasmine shook her head, her eyes red.
Ethan still refused to let go.
Obviously, he was very concerned about his injuries.
"Jasmine, I'm a bit hungry," Ethan looked at the quesadillas on the dining table and spoke again. "Can you make some for me?"
Jasmine nodded vigorously and walked to the kitchen.
Ethan sat in the dim living room, watching Jasmine busy in the kitchen, and smiled weakly.
Such happy days would really make him addicted.
Jasmine was cooking quesadillas in the kitchen, always busy. She did not dare to look back, afraid that if she did, Ethan would be gone.
"Eat quesadillas."
Carrying the quesadillas out of the kitchen, the living room was already empty.
There was no one there.
Jasmine stood nervously in place, her tears falling to the ground.
"Connor is acting strange." Ethan came out of the bathroom and got on the phone, but Connor did not answer.
Jasmine suddenly looked up, sniffed with a smile, and ran over. "Time to eat."
Ethan nodded. "Connor not answering the phone is not right."
"I'll call Tom." Jasmine put down the quesadillas and went to get her phone.
Ethan grabbed Jasmine's wrist. "Jasmine."
Jasmine looked at Ethan nervously.
She selfishly hoped he could stay with her a little longer.
"I have to go," he needed to go back quickly.
Many people were watching Jasmine now.
"Can I visit you?" Jasmine asked softly, lowering her head.
Ethan shook his head.
"Can I contact you?" Jasmine nervously grabbed Ethan's wrist.
Ethan looked at Jasmine with heartache, steeled himself, and still shook his head.
He promised Connor that he would follow his arrangements and help Jasmine move on.
When necessary, Jasmine had to learn to face things alone.
She just needed to know he wasn't dead, that he was always behind her.
She just needed to know she wasn't alone.
Jasmine nodded and slowly let go.
She understood what Ethan meant.
The people behind were hiding in the dark, so they also needed someone in the dark.
"Today Deborah deliberately provoked me, sending breaking mirrors," Jasmine said softly, lowering her head, not daring to look into Ethan's eyes.
She almost broke down.
"Jasmine." Ethan cupped Jasmine's face, making her look into his eyes.
Fireworks were still going off outside.
In such a romantic setting, Jasmine thought Ethan was going to say something romantic.
Like "I love you."
But Ethan seriously said, "Send her white lilies."
Jasmine looked at Ethan and couldn't help but laugh.
Ethan's idea was to send white lilies to Deborah for New Year.
Ethan also laughed, rubbing Jasmine's cheeks. "Be happy, I worked hard to heal you. You can't be depressed, understand?"
Jasmine nodded with red eyes. "Okay."
"You have to believe me. I'll always be behind you. Don't be afraid, do whatever you want." Ethan hugged Jasmine again. "Eat all the quesadillas you made, or I'll be heartbroken."
Slowly squatting down, Ethan leaned against Jasmine's belly. "Have you been listening to Mom lately?"
"The hospital said Dad needs to cooperate for screening if the child." Jasmine didn't want to disappoint Ethan.
"Don't listen to that doctor. She has issues. I've already arranged for Connor to get you a new doctor. So don't be afraid." Ethan stood up and glanced at the time. "Jasmine, I have to go."
"Not eating quesadillas?" Jasmine nervously tugged at his clothes.
"The hospital is stricter than Connor. If I sneak out and eat random things, they won't let me out to see you next time." Ethan pinched Jasmine's nose.
"I will be healthy and back soon to be with you. Then you can hide me at home and take care of me." Ethan teased to make Jasmine happy.
Jasmine always ended up laughing because of him.
She wiped her tears with a smile. "Then come back soon."
"I will," Ethan turned and looked at Jasmine at the door. "Don't be afraid. Don't come out."
Jasmine nodded, looking away.
Ethan walked out the door, quickly hiding in the safety corridor.
Enduring the pain, leaning against the wall, he trembled as he took out painkillers and swallowed them, barely supporting himself to leave.
"Jasmine, Happy New Year."
