Chapter 443 Ethan is Jasmine's Weakness

Connor smiled helplessly and leaned against the bed, gazing out the window.

Suddenly, he didn't feel so lonely as before.

The hospital didn't seem as frightening either.

What he had sought in Ethan and Raymond was this very feeling, the mutual companionship between friends.

However, he couldn't rely too much on it. Even the bond between friends could lead to excessive dependence.

Connor understood well that no one could accompany another for a lifetime, not even a lover. And someone like him didn't deserve to have a lover.

Jasmine woke up still running a fever, probably due to excessive anxiety, which had caused her body temperature to rise.

"Sorry," upon seeing Ethan by her bedside, Jasmine first breathed a sigh of relief, then instinctively apologized. "I haven't felt any discomfort in my heart for a long time, so I didn't carry the medication with me."

Ethan, who was sitting by the bed, kissed Jasmine on the forehead. "It's my fault. My phone got broken."

"How did it break?" Jasmine reached out to hold Ethan's fingers, which were a bit cold, clearly due to poor blood circulation.

Jasmine looked at Ethan with a frown, noticing a distinct smell of blood on him. "What happened? Are you hurt?"

Ethan was momentarily stunned, then smiled. "Are you a little fox? How is your nose so sharp?"

Jasmine sat up nervously, her eyes reddening.

Ethan raised his hand to rub Jasmine's cheek. "Don't be afraid, it wasn't aimed at me."

"Connor was hit on the overpass. I got a bit injured when I went over there," Ethan didn't intend to hide it from Jasmine.

Jasmine tightly gripped Ethan's wrist. "Let me see the wound."

"The doctor has already bandaged it," Ethan said, hugging Jasmine to avoid scaring her.

"Connor, is he okay?" Jasmine still felt grateful to Connor from the bottom of her heart. Even though he had always been using and scheming against her, Connor had helped her many times.

Without Connor, she would have died in prison.

It was to repay Connor's help that she agreed to cooperate with him to get close to Ethan.

"He won't die," Ethan replied in Ryan's tone.

Jasmine's fingers tightened around Ethan's clothes. "Be careful of Connor, he..."

Connor had always been scheming against Ethan for some unknown reason.

"Yes, he's not a good person. Stay away from him when you see him," Ethan seized the opportunity, not explaining for Connor, just wanting Jasmine to stay away from him.

"Actually, apart from making me scheme against you, he's pretty good," Jasmine explained softly.

Connor had saved her many times. She had once relied heavily on Connor, seeing him as a lifeline, a beacon of light.

Ethan looked down at Jasmine, speaking with a hint of resentment. "Am I not your husband?"

"We're divorced," Jasmine said too honestly.

Ethan's heart tightened. "I almost forgot. When will you marry me again?"

Jasmine chuckled softly. "After I return Henry's money, we'll get married."

Ethan nodded in satisfaction, hugging Jasmine tightly. "I thought you didn't want me anymore."

"I won't," Jasmine sighed softly. "I'm afraid you don't want me."

"Go to sleep early, I'll stay with you," Ethan coaxed Jasmine to sleep a bit more.

Jasmine nodded. Since Ethan was fine, she felt relieved, and her anxious heart finally settled.

Before falling asleep, Jasmine tightly held Ethan's hand. "Ethan, don't leave me."

She was afraid, but she didn't dare tell Ethan.

She feared losing him so much that her body was beyond her control.

She even thought of extreme things; if something happened to Ethan, she would unhesitatingly follow him in death.

"I won't leave," Ethan coaxed Jasmine to sleep.

Jasmine sighed in relief, her pale face slowly regaining some color.

Curling up her body, Jasmine gradually closed her eyes.

Ethan watched her, smoothing her long hair gently. Only after Jasmine fell asleep did Ethan get up and leave the ward.

Outside the ward, Liam had been keeping watch.

Seeing Ethan come out, he nervously asked, "Mr. Douglas, how is Jasmine?"

Ethan sat on the bench in the hallway. "She's fine now, but she clearly can't take any more stress."

"Although this incident wasn't directly related to you, we still can't let our guard down. Claire and Howard are very wary of me. I'm being ostracized at the company; they are deliberately looking for a chance to fire me," Liam sighed.

If it weren't for Ethan's mother's influence, Howard would have fired Liam long ago.

Ethan kept Liam at the Douglas Group to keep an eye on internal matters.

"The day he fires me is the day he makes a move against you," Liam said with some anxiety. "Howard has been discharged from the hospital. I heard from Jenna Baker that the company is negotiating a project with the Sanders Group. Both sides are keen on the collaboration, but for some reason, the contract hasn't been signed yet."

Ethan knew that Howard would eventually make a move against him. "He's gambling, betting that I don't have concrete evidence," Ethan said in a deep voice.

The matter of Howard causing his mother's death was not simple. It wasn't just his mother; even the Douglas senior's death in the Douglas family was suspicious.

If Howard had indeed harmed two people, he would fight to the death if cornered.

A man who wouldn't spare his own wife and father wouldn't care about a son he couldn't control.

"Howard is truly vicious. Such a person doesn't deserve to be a husband or a father," Liam cursed through gritted teeth, looking at Ethan with some pity. "Ethan, are you going to make a move?"

"Wait a bit longer," Ethan said, rubbing his temples. "Once we start against Howard, he will definitely retaliate. I'm not confident I can protect Jasmine."

Today, just because he missed a phone call, Jasmine was already stressed enough to end up in the hospital. If something really happened to him, he couldn't imagine how devastating it would be for Jasmine.

"Ethan, I don't quite understand. When did you start loving Jasmine? She's become your weakness," Liam sighed. From the perspective of an assistant and a brother, he didn't like the current Ethan because he had a weakness. He started to have reservations in his actions.

Moreover, Jasmine's presence disrupted all of Ethan's meticulously planned strategies.

Although Jasmine brought significant changes and help to Ethan, she herself was too weak, making Ethan overly cautious.

"She is not a weakness," Ethan corrected Liam. "She is not as fragile as you think. What I worry about is not that my weakness is Jasmine, but that Jasmine's weakness is me."

Ethan didn't know if Liam could understand.

As long as nothing happened to him, with Jasmine's intelligence, those people wouldn't easily harm her.

But the premise was that he couldn't let anything happen to himself.

What Ethan feared most now was something happening to himself.
