Chapter 761 Steven Wants Richard Dead
Richard remained silent and didn't speak.
Steven got out of the car and politely greeted Priya and Tara. "Dad, Mom."
Richard rubbed his temples. Steven called them Dad and Mom, but what should he call them?
Fortunately, Priya and Tara didn't notice Richard. They excitedly stepped forward and shook Steven's hand. "Steven, you're finally back. You have no idea how worried we were when you got into trouble."
After saying that, Tara even shed some tears.
Richard followed behind, took a deep breath, and said nothing.
To be honest, Steven was quite smart. He knew how to hit where it hurt.
He deliberately brought Richard along, intentionally showing Richard the vast difference between them, both being Betty's husbands.
Between prestigious families, it's about matching status and power, not about who were more suitable.
When Betty married Steven, it was a transaction, a game of strategy.
Some said the Willer family sold Betty, and Priya and Tara knew it well, as did Betty.
Otherwise, Betty wouldn't have kept such a distant relationship with them over the years.
Since returning from Muskow, Betty had been living alone. She didn't cut ties with Priya and Tara because she felt it was unnecessary, and bad for business, making them a laughingstock.
But Richard knew that Betty lacked the care from Priya and Tara.
Priya and Tara seemed to treat Betty as a tool for marriage alliances.
So when Betty first brought Richard home, Priya and Tara were very displeased.
Richard still remembered the first thing Priya and Tara asked when they saw him. "Which family are you from?"
They meant which prestigious family.
Since Betty had married Steven, they believed only someone from a prestigious family or a family like the Douglas or Cunningham families could be worthy of Betty.
But Richard straightforwardly said his name was Richard, with no parents.
Upon hearing this, Priya and Tara were furious. Tara went to her room and didn't show up again, while Priya kept a stern face throughout, asking all sorts of questions, which Betty countered.
Richard knew he wasn't worthy of Betty, but since they were married, he would take responsibility.
He wanted to prove himself and win over Priya and Tara, but no matter how hard he tried, his background seemed to be his original sin.
"Dad, Mom, I'm back this time to persuade Betty to return to Muskow with me. Please help me out," Steven said with a smile, deliberately for Richard to hear.
Priya and Tara exchanged a glance, looking a bit troubled, but quickly responded. "Alright, you are Betty's husband. We will definitely persuade her to go back with you. Don't worry, I'll talk to her tomorrow and have her settle things here as soon as possible and go back with you."
Steven smiled and looked back at Richard. "Thank you, Dad and Mom."
It was only then that Priya and Tara noticed Richard standing behind Steven. They felt a bit guilty but quickly spoke. "Richard, what are you doing here?"
"He's my bodyguard. Silverlight City isn't very safe," Steven said with a smile.
Priya and Tara was embarrased. After all, they often had Richard help out.
Priya's face darkened first. "Richard, you'd better break it off with my daughter. Before, it was because Betty didn't know Steven was still alive. Now that he's back, you should leave quickly and not be a nuisance."
Seeing Priya's stance, Tara no longer pretended. "Exactly, Richard, the Willer family won't treat you unfairly. Just name your price, and we'll compensate you as much as possible. You won't lose out."
Richard clenched his fists, lowered his head, and said nothing.
Priya and Tara warmly shook Steven's hand and invited him inside.
As a bodyguard, Richard naturally had to stay outside.
"If I were you, I'd go back and get a divorce," Marley stood beside Richard, mocking. "I really don't know how you are shameless. Do you think you're worthy of Ms. Willer?"
Richard glanced at Marley, sizing him up. "Someone like you probably doesn't deserve to get married, let alone get a divorce."
Marley, furious, pointed at Richard. "What are you so arrogant about? You're just a poor guy. Do you think marrying Ms. Willer will get you into a wealthy family and her fortune? Dream on."
Richard stood there coldly, ignoring Marley, treating him like a mad dog barking.
Marley continued to mock. "Don't you have any self-awareness? Mr. Hughes and Ms. Willer are the real couple, legally. Your marriage certificate will be voided."
"People like you, I've seen plenty. You'll do anything for money..." Before Marley could finish, Richard punched him, causing his nose to bleed.
Marley's glasses fell to the ground, and he touched his nose, rolled his eyes, and fainted.
Richard sighed in relief, finally it was quiet.
When Steven came out, Marley was still lying on the ground.
Steven frowned. "What happened here?"
Richard shrugged. "He fainted on his own."
Steven spoke in a low voice. "Get him out of here."
Richard and the black bodyguard standing at the door dragged Marley away.
Steven exchanged a few more words with Priya and Tara, mostly about business.
They were businesspeople, after all.
Once in the car, Steven provocatively looked at Richard. "So? Have you thought it through?"
Richard said nothing.
Steven coldly spoke again. "I'm giving you a chance to think it through. You should cherish it."
Richard remained silent, sitting there, always alert and watching the car window.
Steven sneered. "I want to see how long you can hold out."
Back at Steven's place, Richard, as a bodyguard, escorted him to his room.
After ensuring Steven had no other plans, Richard turned to leave.
"Richard, name your price," Steven said, tossing his suit jacket on the sofa, asking indifferently.
Richard ignored him, pretending not to understand.
"How much for you to give up Betty?" Steven asked again, not annoyed.
Richard still said nothing, walking to the door, where he saw a hotel attendant pushing a cart with a late-night snack and wine.
"When I give you a way out, you better take it," Steven threatened coldly.
Richard wanted to treat Steven like a madman, but after a few steps, he sensed something was wrong.
The attendant's posture with the cart was off, his one hand always under the cart as if hiding something.
"Watch out!" Richard turned back sharply, and sure enough, the attendant pulled out a knife and lunged at Steven.
Instinctively, Richard, as a bodyguard, protected Steven, kicking the attacker.
Originally, Richard could have dodged, but from behind, Steven deliberately pushed him.
It was clear Steven wanted Richard dead.
