Chapter 339 Loving Someone Unconditionally

"Betty," Richard said in a panic, barely daring to breathe too heavily, nervously wanting to step forward.

Betty looked back at Richard. "How can I become the only one in your heart?"

Richard's eyes turned red. "You are the only one. Since you entered my life, you are the only one. Please don't scare me."

Her eyes welled up with tears. "You're only saying this because you're afraid I'll jump, right?"

Richard shook his head.

Braden was also a bit panicked. "Betty, you're going crazy; come down!"

"Braden, do you have nightmares at night? Dreaming about your brother, Aiden," Betty asked.

Braden looked pale, clenching his hands tightly.

"This damn world," Betty opened her arms and fell backward. "In the next life, I don't want to come back."

"Betty!" Braden and Richard both rushed over at the same time. Braden tried to grab Betty's hand, but it was impossible to catch her.

Richard, however, didn't hesitate at all and jumped in with her.

The upstairs of the building across the street.

Aurora stood still, breathing heavily, feeling bewildered.

At that moment, her heart was completely panicked. If it was just the duty of a bodyguard, Richard didn't need to accompany Betty to jump down.

Tears welled up in Aurora's eyes as she fell to the ground.

She lost.

In the years since she left, she lost Richard.

In Richard's heart, she was no longer there.

"We are the police. Come with us for a ride."

"Silverlight City Police! Drop your weapons!"

The police arrived and surrounded Braden and his group.

The police have also come up to the building across the street and surrounded the person.

Downstairs.

The ambulance was parked on the playground because when Betty called the police, she said she might be thrown off the building, so the police had already set up airbags in advance.

The old classroom building was only four stories high, and there were airbags to cushion any falls from the top, so there was no danger.

Betty watched as Richard fell with her. They lay on the airbag in silence.

Half a day passed, and Betty said, "What will you do if you fall on me? It's so dangerous."

Richard was already angry and didn't want to have anything to do with Betty.

Betty glanced at Richard and said, "Why did you jump down with me?"

Richard ignored Betty, but immediately got up to check if Betty was injured.

Betty lay still, and Richard pulled her up to check. "Did you hurt your neck? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"

The doctor shouted at them, "Don't move around; get into the ambulance." The doctor instructed them not to move around and to go to the hospital for a check-up first.

In case they had any fractures or dislocations.

Betty looked at Richard, her eyes red, but she smiled. "Do we now count as having gone through life and death together for the second time... Can these memories dilute... her place in your heart?"

She choked back tears as she looked at Richard.

"Did you come to rescue me out of a sense of duty as a bodyguard, a feeling of responsibility, or because you love me?"

Betty didn't ask to occupy all of him. She just wanted him to love her wholeheartedly.

Not because of responsibility, nor because of anything else.

When she mentioned being on the outskirts of the city on East Road, she actually informed Richard that she was in the teaching building on the east side.

Richard was so smart that he could understand the meaning behind her words.

Richard chose to come and save her rather than Aurora.

"I've been out of the military for many years, and I'm not in the army anymore. I don't have that sense of responsibility! There's only unconditional favoritism and indulgence between us. Betty, I've just indulged you too much," Richard reached out and pulled Betty into his arms, gritting his teeth as he spoke.

Richard thought, 'Am I spoiling you too much?’

'You dare to jump from the fourth floor!'

"Betty, I was a person who could pick up and let go," Richard said hoarsely.

"If one day, for various reasons, you no longer want me, will you quickly fall in love with someone else?" Betty looked at Richard.

Richard felt she had evolved their thinking on a higher level than he had. He couldn't keep up with Betty's thoughts at all and couldn't even guess what she was thinking the next second.

"You don't want me anymore. What can I do?" Richard thought for a moment. He wasn't the type to force things.

'If you don't want me anymore, I will still give you the dignity you desire.' he pondered.

"Can't you just beg me not to leave you, crying and clinging to me?" Betty was already being carried on a stretcher by the doctors, yet she was still arguing with Richard.

Richard sighed in frustration. "What you say is true."

"You are just going through the motions with me. It's only been a few days since we got married, and you're already going through the motions with me. You don't love me anymore."

Richard had a headache, but he smiled indulgently nonetheless.

He had lived for thirty years and had never imagined that one day he would find a woman like Betty to be his wife.

Before meeting Betty, Richard always thought he liked the delicate and weak type of woman who was quiet and gentle, someone who would evoke a protective instinct in him.

'Truly meeting you made me realize that loving someone has no reason, no conditions, and no specific order of time.’ he thought.

Love is love.

In his emotions, there was no room for a second person.

"I'm fine," she said. Knowing she was okay, Richard stood up.

Upstairs, Aurora was also carried down by the police, sitting in a wheelchair, her eyes red as she looked at Richard.

"Richard."

Richard furrowed his brow, looking at Aurora. "I thought I made it clear to you that I don't owe you anything, and I'm not obligated to keep taking care of you. Betty is my bottom line, and you have now crossed that line. She is my wife, we are already married, so please don't come to bother us anymore. We just want to live our lives peacefully."

Aurora cried, clutching her hands tightly. "You don't love her at all! You clearly still love me. Why won't you admit it? If you don't love me, how could you have rushed here the moment you knew I was in danger?"

"You're overthinking it," Richard said, raising his hand with Betty's necklace in his grasp. "Her location vanished right here."

Betty sat in the ambulance, watching Richard's back.

At that moment, her heart seemed to settle.

Richard was for she  that he came.

"I don't believe it, I don't believe you don't love me anymore, I don't believe you don't love me at all," Aurora continued to cry.

"Aurora, the memories of the past are like a dream. Regardless of who was right or wrong, it's all in the past. Those who were not cherished properly will always meet someone else willing to cherish them." Richard glanced in the direction of the ambulance. "When I was misunderstood, slandered by Serena, and targeted by everyone, she always stood unconditionally in front of me, trusting me."

Richard chuckled sarcastically. "My duty was to live to protect others. Only Betty, she was protecting me."

Aurora clenched the wheelchair tightly, her eyes red. "You only owe her a favor."

"Aurora, if you dare to manipulate her again, I won't go easy on you. There's only room for one person in my heart, and she has already filled it. There's no space for you at all. Therefore, apart from my wife, no one deserves special treatment from me, nor do they deserve even a bit of my indulgence. I hope you understand."

Richard wanted to make it clear to Aurora that he wasn't a fool; there weren't so many coincidences, and how could Betty have come here? Aurora knew best.

Aurora sat weakly in the wheelchair, overwhelmed with regret. "I don't believe it. I won't give up on you. When she doesn't want you anymore, I'll come back to you. I'll wait for you forever."

"There will never be that day. Even if one day she doesn't want me anymore, we can never be together," Richard killed Aurora's hope.

"I don't believe it!" Aurora was still crying out.

She  didn't believe it. Why was she the only one living in the past with emotions?

"Betty will definitely leave you. She married you just to provoke Braden. Her relationship with Braden is ambiguous. I know their secrets, between her and Braden, they..."
