Chapter 141 Ethan was Mad with Jealousy Today

Jasmine also felt a bit panicked, uncertain why Ethan's anger seemed directed at her.

Feeling tense, Jasmine bowed her head anxiously, not knowing what to do.

Ethan seemed to disagree.

"Take him away and interrogate him thoroughly. Find out who's behind this!" Otis's expression was severe as he cast a meaningful glance at Clara and snorted.

Spectators often relish the feuds among the wealthy.

If the incident hadn't touched Otis's personal interests, he too would have enjoyed watching the commotion.

However, Clara had calculated against him, which was a problem.

Clara's complexion also looked extremely sour, her teeth practically grinding in ire as Daniel walked away without looking back.

That spineless, disgraceful nobody.

She had broken her back worrying over Daniel for nothing. He chose to publicly embarrass her for that little tramp.

"Elia, it's clear that this whole thing is—"

"The bidding is about to start," Elia interrupted Clara's sentence with her deep voice.

Elia's gaze softened when she looked at Jasmine.

"I trust Ethan's judgment. Steering Stellar Enterprises and supporting so many freeloaders, he certainly knows how to pick an assistant," Elia spoke solemnly, walking over to Otis. "You should learn from Ethan going forward. His capability is something you could benefit from."

Otis quickly nodded. "Yes, Mom."

Clara felt like her face was being ground into the dirt, a classic case of shooting oneself in the foot.

Her breathing ragged with frustration and Clara nearly lost her footing.

Her assistant hurried to steady her. "Ms. Clara... Are you all right? Shall we still head to the venue?"

"Forget it!" Clara snapped angrily.

With Daniel gone, there was no point in going.

Once again, she had lost to Ethan.

Mainly because of that little bitch Jasmine, who was too damn smart for her own good. She wondered why she hadn't noticed how sharp Jasmine could be before.

Jasmine was said to have almost turned mute. She talked way too much now!

"I think Jasmine should become mute for real," Clara growled, clutching her chest in distress as she staggered out. "Find a way to teach Jasmine a lesson. I hope she really loses her voice!"

Her assistant paused for a moment before quickly nodding. "Of course, Mrs Clara."

...

At the event, Jasmine was walking with her head down, following closely behind Ethan.

"Ah!" Not paying attention, Jasmine was suddenly pulled into a corner just before entering the venue, pinned against the wall.

Ethan's mood was thunderous, his face dark, his eyes looking like they could kill.

Jasmine panicked, her eyes red with distress as she frantically explained, "Ethan... Mr. Ethan, I... I didn't do anything wrong, that person is slandering me..."

After rambling, Jasmine bowed her head, at a loss for words. "I'm sorry... It's my fault, I've caused you trouble."

Apart from apologizing, she didn't know what else to say.

"You've been with Daniel for five years?" Ethan gritted his teeth and spoke.

Jasmine had been with Daniel since she was sixteen until she turned twenty.

They were each other's first love.

According to Liam, they were childhood sweethearts, innocents with no idea of the world's complexity.

Such a relationship was infuriatingly enviable.

For some reason, Ethan was insanely jealous. He was so jealous that he had lost control, wanting to surge forward and punch Daniel.

He should have been there the moment he knew Daniel wouldn't cherish her. He should have shown up when Jasmine was only sixteen.

Unfortunately, he couldn't go back in time.

Jasmine took a frantic glance at Ethan, then quickly lowered her head. "Yeah..."

She had indeed been with Daniel since sophomore year of high school; that was the truth.

"You loved him that much?" Ethan's voice was low and probing.

"I did love him..." Jasmine didn't lie.

At one time, she had loved Daniel very deeply.

"Forget him!" Ethan commanded, gripping Jasmine's chin, his voice carrying a threatening edge.
Jasmine had never truly felt the weight of Ethan's oppression, nor had she witnessed him lose his temper in earnest.

She had only heard how everyone feared Ethan, including the servants of the Douglas family.

But when Ethan pressed her for real, Jasmine felt a chill run down her spine.

"Don't forget who you are right now; you're my woman," Ethan reminded Jasmine.

With reddened eyes and biting her lip, Jasmine remained silent.

After releasing Jasmine, Ethan straightened his face and adjusted his tie before he strode into the venue.

Jasmine leaned against the wall, taking a long time to recover.

She didn't know why Ethan was angry, only that she kept denigrating herself.

It was her very presence that stirred endless trouble for Ethan.

It gave Clara the chance to sling mud at him.

It was all her fault.

Her existence was the original sin.

...

In the bidding venue, the atmosphere around Ethan was heavy; no one dared to approach him.

Jasmine hid in a corner, afraid to show herself in front of Ethan, letting Liam stay by his side.

Throughout the meeting, Ethan looked like he could snap at any moment.

The bid went, without question, to Stellar Enterprises, with Ethan handling the project interface and collaboration.

After a lengthy exchange of pleasantries with Otis, the contract was signed.

Typically, all the business tycoons would stay for a dinner gathering, but Ethan left early, citing ill health.

At the entrance, Jasmine, with her head down, hurried to catch up with Ethan.

Ethan hadn't said a word to Jasmine all the way back to the hotel.

His mind was consumed with Daniel's claim that Jasmine had no birthmark and her confession of past love.

He wanted to kill him.

He wanted to kill anyone who had touched Jasmine.

He was going mad.

Hidden in the corner, Jasmine secretly wiped her tears.

Liam turned back and saw, his brow slightly furrowed.

He felt pity for Jasmine.

A woman constantly maligned in public, doused with slander—no matter how strong one's mentality, it would eventually break.

Covertly passing her a tissue and sliding a piece of candy her way, Liam caught Jasmine's grateful glance. She leaned against the car window, watching the bustling world outside.

"Mr. Ethan... Are we rushing back to Silverlight City tonight, or..." Liam, seeing Ethan leave the venue early without attending the dinner and looking this upset, thought he was planning to head back to Silverlight City that very night.

"The schedule stays the same, Kimberly," Ethan said with a furrowed brow.

"Are you...really not feeling well?" Liam was shocked since Ethan's character would typically dictate a swift return to Silverlight City.

Liam couldn't tell if Ethan was truly unwell to have wanted to go back to the hotel so early and stay another day.

Ethan glanced back at Jasmine, who had a fever today. Staying another night would give her time to rest properly.

"Yeah," Ethan grunted in confirmation.

"Then... then let's get back to the hotel so you can rest up," Liam said with genuine concern.

Ethan didn't reply, wishing that Liam wasn't there to act like a third wheel.

...

Back at the Bellagio Hotel, in a hidden passageway, Clara's assistant whispered to a hotel staff member. "Place this bottle of water in Jasmine's room. Once Jasmine falls ill, pour the water into the toilet immediately. Don't leave any evidence. There are no cameras in the room, so it won't be traced back to you."

Clara wanted to silence Jasmine, and her assistant had tampered with the water accordingly.
