Chapter 355 Mrs. Everhart's Ability to Point Fingers and Cast Blame
"Don't worry, even if we don't secure this project, we have other ways. We can always start fresh in another city. I refuse to believe the Douglas family has that much influence," Jasmine said, biting her lip.
"Well, then I'd truly have nothing," Ethan joked with a smile. "You'd even divorce me; how heartbreaking."
"I'm not really leaving. It's just... getting a divorce certificate to make Daniel believe it," she explained anxiously.
He reached out and embraced her, speaking softly. "I know you won't leave me."
Jasmine nodded, patting his back. "Don't worry, Mrs. Everhart will help us."
The Everhart family estate.
Alex had a particularly luxurious estate in Maple Grove, looking beautiful with meticulously trimmed gardens and lawns.
Arm in arm with Ethan, Jasmine was amazed by the beauty of the estate. "The environment here is really nice."
"I know there's a house in Silverlight City, also very beautiful, with a view of the entire city's night scene, located by the river in the center of Silverlight City, a top-floor penthouse with a fantastic night view." He began boasting about his marital home.
Her eyes lit up, excitedly bouncing. "I know that house! I've seen it on the top ten luxury homes in Silverlight City list, ranking first."
He smiled. "Do you like it?"
After a moment of thought, she shook her head. "The house we live in now is fine. When we have money in the future, we'll buy a smaller, cozier home."
"If I were very wealthy, would you choose that house?" He found her maturity endearing.
"If we strike it rich and the house owner's selling, we're buying! I dream of a dance studio with panoramic windows - it'd be breathtaking ," she envisioned.
"Alright." He took her hand and led her into the living room.
"Jasmine, your purse is really nice. You have great taste," Mrs. Everhart greeted warmly.
Jasmine felt like laughing. It was Mrs. Everhart who bought her the purse.
" Jasmine is truly a graceful and elegant lady, confident and poised. When it comes to discussing cooperation, she does so openly and fairly based on her abilities, without resorting to underhanded tactics," Mrs. Everhart commented, guiding Alex with a strange tone.
Alex and Ethan shook hands, exchanging awkward smiles.
In the living room, Annabelle, alone, looked shocked as she watched Jasmine and Ethan. She suddenly stood up.
She thought, 'Jasmine actually comes here.'
'When did she arrive in Maple Grove? How is this possible? Wasn't she still unconscious?'
'Did Connor lie to me? That couldn't be.'
Gritting her teeth, she frowned at Jasmine. Even if she came, she wouldn't let Jasmine win the project.
"Jasmine, this is your first visit. Do you bring a gift?" Annabelle smiled and walked over.
"It's my first visit, and I didn't have much money to buy a precious gift for Mrs. Everhart. I heard it's the season for wild jujubes on the mountain, so Ethan and I spent the afternoon picking them," Jasmine handed a delicate fruit box to Mrs. Everhart.
Mrs. Everhart was momentarily stunned, looking up at Ethan to see scratches on his neck and cheek.
"You two..." Mrs. Everhart was somewhat moved. The gift really touched her heart.
She didn't lack money, so she didn't care about how expensive the gift was. However, the fact that Jasmine and Ethan paid attention to such details moved her.
"Someone always claims to be busy and unwilling to accompany me to the mountain to pick fruit," Mrs. Everhart said.
Alex chuckled as he embraced Mrs. Everhart. "It looks like my wife really likes the gift you brought."
On the side, Annabelle's face darkened with anger. She thought Jasmine and Ethan only did this because they were poor.
If Ethan were still the president of Stellar Enterprises, would he bring Jasmine with him and only give a box of wild berries as a gift? That would truly be a laughingstock.
"If you like it, that's good. This isn't a valuable gift," Ethan glanced at Jasmine. "It's a token of Jasmine's affection."
"Alex, I think Jasmine and Ethan are sincere. How are you thinking about your cooperation?" Mrs. Everhart brought up the topic during dinner, which was unusual for her as she never interfered in business matters.
"Evelina, today is a family banquet. Let's enjoy the meal and not talk about work," Alex whispered, almost pleading.
Mrs. Everhart pursed her lips, choosing not to say more, giving him some face.
Annabelle smirked triumphantly.
Alex had already agreed to invest in her and Daniel's project, and he probably wouldn’t regret it.
Ethan and Jasmine were being quite foolish this time, thinking that flattering Mrs. Everhart would guarantee their success.
It was laughable. The head of the Everhart family was Alex, who was also the CEO of the group.
Mrs. Everhart never interfered in projects and had no say in them.
Jasmine glanced at Annabelle, then looked away.
Currently, both sides were playing a game, waiting to see whether Mrs. Everhart or Alex would compromise first.
So, it was uncertain who would win between her and Annabelle.
"Tomorrow morning, the project bidding will officially begin. All of you can go to the company early tomorrow, and we'll discuss it at the office," Alex said with a smile, suggesting they focus on dinner for now.
Under the table, Jasmine squeezed Ethan's hand, eating a few bites with a faint smile.
"Ethan, I am not criticizing you, but you're currently starting a business and have nothing. Jasmine has been with you all along. You can't let her down," Mrs. Everhart tapped Ethan.
Ethan nodded. "I won't, Mrs. Everhart."
"When things are going well, everyone is nice to you, trying to please you. Even people you haven't contacted for years suddenly show up, trying to be friendly and talking about feelings. It's all fake. Remember who was with you in adversity, who accompanied you in starting a business, who endured hardships with you, who went through countless days and nights with you," Mrs. Everhart peeled shrimp for Jasmine.
"Good times are created together by both of you, not just one of you working hard. Enjoy your days together, and don't get involved in messy things," she advised.
Ethan quickly nodded, glancing at Alex, who seemed uneasy.
"If this cooperation is successful, should you give Jasmine half of the shares in your company to make it fair to her?" Mrs. Everhart looked at Ethan seriously, making this request on Jasmine's behalf.
She was also looking out for herself.
Ethan held Jasmine's hand, smiling as he spoke. "The company belongs to Jasmine. I'm just working for her."
Jasmine was extremely surprised.
"Darling, can you support me financially?" Ethan whispered in her ear.
She blushed, lowering her head nervously. "Let's talk about it when we get back to the hotel."
Mrs. Everhart smiled contentedly and clapped her hands. "In that case, I like you two even more."
Annabelle, left aside, was fuming with anger.
Tomorrow, she would also go to the bidding site and wouldn't let Jasmine have it so easy.
