Chapter 468 Ethan Responded to Jasmine's Facebook Post
At Ethan's Company
Liam burst into the office, out of breath. "Ethan! Deborah..."
Ethan frowned. "Spit it out."
"Deborah went to the school," Liam finally said.
Ethan's face darkened, and he stood up quickly.
He was worried Deborah was after Jasmine.
"Check the news online. Some project partners think Deborah is your future wife," Liam added cautiously.
Ethan's expression turned grim as he pulled out his phone, ready to set things straight on Facebook.
But what he saw wasn't about Deborah or the partners. It was about the Cunningham family's daughter announcing her engagement.
#The Cunningham family's daughter, Yasmine Cunningham announces her engagement.#
#Yasmine Cunningham, the Estranged Daughter of the Cunningham Family, is Married to Him!
Jasmine had used Yasmine Cunningham's account to post on Facebook, sharing a picture of her and Ethan's marriage certificate with the caption: **My only light in the darkness.**
Liam peeked over and gasped, "Wow, Jasmine's really changed."
Ethan chuckled, leaning against the desk as he scrolled through the comments.
Some were shocked, some offered blessings, but others questioned and insulted her.
They said Jasmine was just seeking attention, that she wasn't really the Cunningham family's daughter, and that it was a fake account.
Since Jasmine's Facebook wasn't officially verified and she used the name 'Yasmine Cunningham,' it looked somewhat fake.
[Where did this fake account come from? Ethan's girlfriend is Deborah. He just picked her up from the airport a few days ago. What are you posting here?]
[Who is she? Is she making things up?]
Ethan frowned at the harsh comments.
But since Jasmine chose to fight back against Deborah through public opinion, she must have been prepared.
Connor had said that letting her face some hardships was a good thing.
But she shouldn't have to endure it all alone.
At Stanford University.
Jasmine had just posted on Facebook, and the topic exploded.
Deborah found out only after her speech.
Checking her phone, Deborah looked meaningfully at Jasmine from the podium but kept her expression neutral.
She smiled faintly and stepped down.
Some students gathered around her, whispering and glancing at Jasmine.
Jasmine stayed silent.
"Did you post on Facebook? Are you the person in the photo? Please delete it. Posting a fake marriage certificate is illegal," someone demanded.
Jasmine packed her things, put on her earphones, and stood up. "Be careful when meddling in others' business; you might get deceived."
The person got angry. "Even though Ethan was kicked out of the Douglas Group, he's starting over now. They are a perfect match. You shouldn't cause trouble for them. You just can't stand others' happiness."
Jasmine pretended not to hear and kept walking.
"You've misunderstood; she's not lying," Deborah said with a smile, explaining on Jasmine's behalf.
Jasmine removed her earphones and looked back at Deborah.
"Sorry, maybe I didn't explain clearly, which led to the misunderstanding. It's over between Ethan and me. Years ago, I had a car accident, and I can't have kids anymore. I didn't want to burden Ethan," Deborah said calmly, but with a hint of pity.
Everyone cast sympathetic glances.
She was very good at reading people.
"Senior, was it that car accident? The one where you pushed Ethan away to save him and got hit by the car?"
"I didn't expect it would affect your fertility. Is that why he broke up with you?"
Deborah shook her head. "No, don't jump to conclusions. I was the one who proposed the breakup."
Deborah smiled at the students. "It's all in the past."
"That's not right. If Ethan doesn't care about you, we do. You lost the chance to be a mother for him, and he married someone else. That's not fair."
"Exactly."
Jasmine looked at Deborah. If she were just a bystander, she might have been moved by Deborah's story and felt it was unfair too.
"Alright, you all go ahead. I want to talk to Jasmine," Deborah dismissed the students.
Jasmine looked at her and took the initiative to speak. "What do you want to talk about?"
"Don't be nervous. I'm not here to take Ethan back," Deborah chuckled. "For me, love isn't everything."
Jasmine didn't let her guard down.
"Really? What you're doing now doesn't seem as calm as you say," Jasmine retorted.
"Love may not be everything, but it's still something I want to fight for," Deborah admitted frankly. "I come from a poor background, as you said, the daughter of a mistress. Since I can't change everything about myself, which is already bad enough."
Deborah sat on the desk beside Jasmine. "Then for everything else—work, career, family, love—I must strive for the best."
Jasmine frowned. "You can strive for what you want, but don't covet what belongs to others."
"What is inherently someone else's?" Deborah asked.
"I appreciate that you hold Ethan in such high regard," Jasmine looked at Deborah and spoke again.
Then she added, "Ethan is my husband. Everything he values is my bottom line, and I will defend my rights to the death. So, no matter what you think, you'd better not provoke me."
"I don't want to be your enemy, but I will compete with you fairly. I won't use any underhanded tactics. I hope we can be honest with each other, and no matter the outcome, we can at least meet again with dignity," Deborah smiled at Jasmine.
"Deborah, I don't know what your family and educational values are, but knowing that Ethan is married and still talking about fair competition, fundamentally, you are not being honorable."
Deborah looked at Jasmine, still smiling. "Actually, you're very fear and nervous because Ethan and I have a past, and you only have those two kids."
Jasmine said nothing.
Deborah continued, "I lost my fertility for Ethan. He promised to take care of me for life."
"The other day, I met Howard. I told Ethan that Howard said he loved your mother. Do you know why he didn't refute it? Because it's a code between us, from many years ago when I helped him gain control of the Douglas Group."
Deborah told Jasmine that their relationship had a foundation.
Jasmine raised an eyebrow and took out her phone. "Did Ethan ever tell you that he doesn't lack business partners, but as for a wife and lover, he only has me?"
Jasmine showed Deborah the trending page on Facebook that Ethan had responded to her post.
