Chapter 278 Ethan Started Pretending to be Poor
The sound of the hairdryer buzzed in Wilson's ears, making her left ear feel muffled.
Wilson looked at herself in the mirror and then at Ethan, who was blow-drying her hair attentively.
Does he love her?
If he didn't, he wouldn't have gone this far, right?
"Ethan, do you love me?" Wilson asked softly, using the noise of the hairdryer to cover her voice.
She knew her voice was faint, and Ethan couldn't hear her.
But Ethan turned off the hairdryer and held her. "Wilson. Because of my family background, I thought I would be cold and indifferent for the rest of my life, incapable of loving anyone. Until you appeared in my life, I learned how to love someone. It was love at first sight, and my feelings for you grew with time."
Ethan could see Wilson's lip movements through the mirror, and he knew she was asking if he loved her.
He understood that Wilson lacked security.
"Wilson, you need to have confidence. You deserve to be loved by many. You are worth my love, a love that is deep and genuine," Ethan hugged Wilson from behind, his voice hoarse. "I love you so much, very much."
Fancy words might not express his emotions, but the phrase "I love you so much, very much," made Wilson's heart race.
She looked at her reflection in the mirror, no longer pale, and carefully observed herself.
She was afraid to look in the mirror, afraid to see her pale self.
But when she was with Ethan, she could temporarily forget all her fears and examine herself closely.
She had changed. She was no longer the same person she was when she first got out of prison.
It was Ethan's care during this time that had brought back the radiance in her face.
Her skin was fair, with a faint scar on her cheek, but she was bright and beautiful, with stunning features.
She tilted her head and let Ethan bury his head in her neck.
She watched the two people cuddling in the mirror quietly for a long time.
If these six years were a test given to her by God, a test she had to endure hardships to find redemption.
Then, has she finally come to the end of her suffering and waited for her divine being?
"Ethan, don't lie to me," Wilson's voice was hoarse.
Trusting Ethan was the last courage she had in her life.
If even Ethan abandoned her, she might really die.
"Never again," Ethan swore.
The next morning.
Ethan was still sleeping while Wilson quietly got out of bed and prepared to go to work.
Ethan probably hadn't slept all night, but with him by her side, Wilson quickly fell asleep.
Looking at the arm that she had pressed red on Ethan, Wilson felt a little guilty.
Carefully, she reached out to try to move Ethan's arm, but he suddenly pulled her into his embrace and kissed her forehead. "I'll take you to work."
"No," Wilson shook her head. "My boss is already waiting for me downstairs."
Wilson stood up straight, grabbed her bag, and prepared to go downstairs.
Ethan instantly lost his sleepiness and quickly got out of bed, not caring about changing clothes that had been worn for only one day and rushing to go outside.
Did Nolan have any other plans?
No, the people from the Cunningham Family were all bad.
"Wilson, let me take you. Don't take Nolan's car," Ethan was very guarded against Nolan.
"No," Wilson refused. "I don't want to see you. I want to be alone."
Ethan stood there with resentment. Last night, when she held him and said she was scared, she didn't have this attitude.
Wilson's current appearance was very much like an irresponsible playboy.
But Ethan's heartbeat strangely quickened, unsure if it was just an illusion.
Ethan felt that today's Wilson was a little different.
She was starting to dare to refuse him.
And it was a direct refusal.
Ethan smiled helplessly, sighed, and accepted all the punishment from his wife because it was he who was at fault first.
"Mr. Ethan, come to the Douglas family. Howard has started his next move," Liam called Ethan, speaking in a low voice.
Ethan's face darkened. He was just worried that he had no place to vent. Whoever provoked him today would be unlucky.
At the hotel entrance.
Wilson got into Nolan's car and spoke softly. "Thank you, boss, for picking me up."
"Why are you suddenly being so polite?" Nolan was also taken aback, feeling that Wilson seemed a bit different.
"Have you figured it out? Do you want to leave Silverlight City with me?" Wilson lowered their head and spoke after a moment.
"Boss, Ethan is a good person. He is smart and capable. If you are willing to cooperate with him, it will be a powerful alliance, supporting each other. You will definitely reach new heights together," Wilson said.
Nolan felt speechless after hearing this. He had asked Wilson if they wanted to leave Silverlight City, and Wilson praised Ethan.
"Ethan is really impressive. It was only after he took over the Douglas family that Stellar Enterprises reached its current state. But Howard wants to steal his prize, isn't that no different than being a thief?" Wilson muttered.
Nolan finally understood. Wilson was playing the victim, asking for his help for Ethan.
It seemed that Wilson was indeed very clever. They guessed that Howard might have targeted Ethan.
"It's too late," Nolan spoke dismissively. "Howard has gone too far this time."
Wilson paused, looked up worriedly, and nervously asked Nolan, "Howard. What did he do?"
"Why do you care about him? Don't you hate him? Are you over what happened six years ago?" Nolan snorted.
Wilson shook their head. "Actually, I'm somewhat relieved."
Nolan clenched his teeth in anger. "You're beyond help."
Wilson remained silent.
"Let me tell you, Howard drove Ethan out of Stellar Enterprises. Not only did he take away his shares, but he also intended to target Ethan's other companies. I heard Ethan's film and television company has serious financial leakages, with internal members being bribed by Howard. Ethan is facing huge fines. He is not only no longer the President of Stellar Enterprises but also potentially burdened with enormous debt and penniless."
Nolan coldly snorted. Howard was so ruthless even to his own son.
He had gone too far this time.
"Why, Howard? Why treat him like this?" Wilson's eyes turned red, her voice hoarse. How heartbroken Ethan must be.
Last night, he must have been so heartbroken, and she had treated him like that.
Wilson couldn't control her tears anymore, crying out of anger.
"You. Why are you crying so much?" Nolan was at a loss, unable to stand seeing Wilson cry. He quickly handed her a tissue. "Wilson, it's not that I don't want to help you, but Annabelle and Daniel got married with a marriage certificate after all. They are part of our Cunningham Family, and I can't intervene."
He was in a difficult position himself.
Howard had gone this far to ensure Ethan's complete downfall, to make sure he would never have a chance to turn things around.
Unless Ethan humbled himself and went back to beg Howard, and behaved well, perhaps Howard would consider giving him a chance for the sake of their father-son relationship.
But Ethan was stubborn by nature, and there was no way he would go back and beg Howard, no matter what.
"All I can say is, if Ethan wants to start a business and start over, wherever he needs my help, I can assist him." Nolan looked away, feeling strange. Why couldn't he stand seeing Wilson cry all the time?
That kind of emotion was weird. Was it because he admired her? Or because he liked her?
It seemed like neither.
With teary eyes, Wilson spoke up. "I believe in Ethan. With his abilities, even without the Douglas family, he can create another miracle."
"This matter is not as simple as you think," Nolan didn't mean to disappoint Wilson. "I advise you to quickly distance yourself from Ethan. You have to understand, that as long as he doesn't yield, Howard won't give him any opportunity to turn things around. Do you want to suffer alongside him for your whole life? Considering his background, no company would dare take the risk of offending the Douglas family and hiring him. He might struggle just to support himself."
Wilson tightly clasped her hands. "I'll support him."
