Chapter 539 Cordelia is About to Reveal the Truth
Willian glared at Edward. "This is my home, and the family name is Cunningham."
Edward shrugged. "Sure, I'll remember that for your tombstone."
Willian's face went pale. "You can't say that. You're cursing your father."
Edward rolled his eyes. "You're delusional, aren't you? You actually see yourself as my father?"
Willian fumed but stayed silent. He knew he couldn't win a fight and didn't dare to push back.
"I'm back!" Edgar burst in, looking cheerful after being away for days.
Edward glanced at him. "Had your fun and decided to come home, huh?"
Edgar scratched his head. "Come on, we're family. No need for harsh words." He then handed gifts to Jasmine. "Got you the latest handbag and some jewelry. See how much I care?"
Edgar walked into the kitchen. "Mom, what's the occasion? Even Willian's here."
Cordelia shot him a look. Edgar grabbed a tomato and took a bite. As he walked out, he saw Nolan and Fiona coming in.
Edgar looked worried. "Fiona, you okay? Heard you were hospitalized for alcohol poisoning. Couldn't reach you."
Fiona smiled. "I'm fine. It was just fake alcohol, and my agent took my phone."
Edgar sighed in relief. "Good. I saw news about that Carter scumbag with a starlet. Did he mess with you? My brother would kill him."
Fiona shook her head. "No, the reports are exaggerated. Mostly industry drama."
Nolan's face darkened. "Don't defend Lawrence Carter."
Lawrence Carter was Amelia's dad and the guy Nolan was trying to take down.
Fiona wanted to say more, but Jasmine came over with egg tarts. She handed one to Fiona, then pulled it back. "You're a star; you probably can't eat this. I'll eat it for you."
Jasmine smiled, and Fiona looked resentful as Jasmine ate the last tart.
"She's so mean," Fiona muttered.
Nolan's mood lightened a bit. "I've told you, the Cunningham family can take care of you. No need for showbiz. You got lucky this time."
Nolan's eyes darkened again. "Alright, let's get ready for dinner."
"Mom, why'd you call us all back? Something up?" Nolan asked, worried.
Cordelia glanced at him and Fiona. "Nothing, let's eat first. We'll talk after dinner."
Nolan opened his mouth but stayed quiet.
After a bit, Nolan followed Cordelia into the kitchen. "Mom, if this is about Fiona's background, please don't bring it up."
Cordelia paused, holding a plate. "Is that fair to your sister and me?"
Her voice was hoarse.
"I'm sorry, Mom." Nolan looked down, clenching his fists. It was about Fiona's background.
"It's not her fault. I don't want her to suffer. She's been through a lot and just got out of the hospital. You like Fiona too. Even if she's not my biological sister, we've grown close over the years." Nolan pleaded softly.
Cordelia's fingers felt cold around the plate. "Nolan, I won't take it out on Fiona, but because she's that person's daughter, I can't be too forgiving. You can't expect me to be a saint."
Her voice trembled. She didn't want to think about what could've happened if Fiona hadn't gotten sick, if the hospital hadn't checked her blood type, if she hadn't discovered the truth, and had raised Fiona as her own. What would things be like now?
Where would her real daughter be? Jasmine might have died in those schemes.
She might have lived a harsh life.
"Mom, I'll do my best to make it up to Jasmine, but please don't reveal Fiona's background for now," Nolan said softly.
He knew it was selfish, but he had promised to protect Fiona for life, always to be her brother.
"Who will protect my daughter's misfortune?" Cordelia took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, Nolan, but I must reveal this secret and truth."
It was a cruel trap set by Sophia.
A trap that still made Cordelia shiver when she thought about it.
After Jasmine was born, Sophia swapped her out and treated her so cruelly.
How could she be so vicious!
Fiona was innocent, and so was her daughter.
At least Fiona had been protected in the Cunningham family for over twenty years. She had given Fiona everything, including food, clothing, and education, just like Nolan and the others.
But what about Jasmine?
Even if she grew up in the Wilson family, so what?
Nolan stood there for a long time, keeping silent.
He didn't know how to make everyone happy.
In Nolan's heart, both of them were very important.
"Why did you call everyone back today?" Edgar broke the silence.
Jasmine also looked at Cordelia curiously, not knowing why the atmosphere at home was so heavy today.
Ethan squeezed Jasmine's fingers under the table. She glared at him, signaling him to be quiet. Noticing the tense atmosphere, Ethan sat up straight, waiting for Cordelia to speak.
Cordelia looked up, her gaze complicated as she looked at Jasmine, then at Willian.
"Willian, you said you did a paternity test with Evelyn, and she's not your biological daughter, right?" Cordelia asked.
Willian's face looked a bit embarrassed, and he lowered his head without speaking.
"Fiona," Cordelia suddenly called Fiona's name.
Fiona was watching Nolan peel shrimp for her. She tensed up and looked at Cordelia. "I'm here."
Nolan put down the shrimp and looked at Cordelia. "Mom."
Cordelia ignored Nolan. "Willian, you and Fiona should do a paternity test."
Cordelia finally said it.
Everyone was shocked.
The air became silent and oppressive.
Nolan stood up abruptly, holding Fiona's hand. "We won't do it. Let's go."
