Chapter 356 Will He Choose His Wife or First Love
Maple Grove.
After dinner at the Everhart family, Jasmine followed Ethan back to the hotel.
"Mrs. Everhart is actually a very insightful person." He admired Mrs. Everhart.
"Yes, she knows that feelings, trust, and confidence are not the same thing.." She nodded, understanding this as well.
"So, dear, what are you planning to ask from me for your confidence?" He reached out, trapping her by the bed, slowly pressing down on her.
Her heart was racing, nervously pushing his chest. "Don’t touch me."
"No." He was being stubborn.
"You have nothing now. What can I ask from you?" She didn't want to provoke him, but he was shameless now.
Ethan rubbed Jasmine's ear. "I'll give you all the original shares of IntelinkTech in my hands. If the company successfully goes public after investment, you'll be the largest shareholder."
This new company he started was a gift to her.
He and Richard co-founded IntelinkTech, which focused on new energy development, social media, news, photography, video editing, and more.
The company also had a security field, including security systems, surveillance systems, security personnel management training, special bodyguard teams for celebrities, corporate security transport, and more.
He and his friends were in charge of the security field while he handled funding and management.
This new company was created for Richard and Jasmine.
Jasmine was only responsible for dividends and money, while he worked for her and Richard for free.
He was the actual controlling shareholder of Crestwood Development Group International, so IntelinkTech was backed by a large company and didn't have to worry about venture capital issues.
He let her handle the investment in the Everhart family to boost her confidence.
He wanted her to integrate better into society and social environments.
As long as she opened up, she could gradually move away from her past difficulties.
So, he wasn't worried at all about securing this investment.
Even if IntelinkTech didn't secure the investment from the Everhart family this time, it didn't matter because Crestwood Development Group would invest.
"Ethan, why aren't you worried at all?" She was a bit afraid. "Look at today's situation, Alex seems undecided."
"Don't be afraid." he rubbed her head. "There's more than just his venture capital firm."
"But..." She sighed. "He's a benchmark in the industry."
"Isn't there still Crestwood Development Group? We can ask the boss of the Crestwood Development Group for help, right?" He didn't want her to worry too much.
"Ethan, I'm not sure what's going on between you and the boss of Crestwood Development Group, but I’m afraid that they might not take you seriously if you keep take advantage of the favor they owed you ." She worried that he would be wronged.
"Let's try to secure this project as much as possible." he comforted her.
"I didn't expect Annabelle to contact Karen. I heard Alex owes Karen a favor." She was now very worried.
"It depends on whom he thinks is mor important, his first love or his wife?" Ethan replied.
The Everhart family.
Mrs. Everhart sat on the sofa, drinking coffee and watching Alex come out of the bathroom.
"Was the company busy today?" she asked.
"Yes," Alex nodded somewhat guiltily.
"Do you know? One should never lie because once you start, it will make people think everything in the past was a lie," Mrs. Everhart set down her cup, looking at him very seriously. "We've been together for so many years. I trust you a lot, never doubted you, but for whatever reason, you shouldn't lie to me."
He was stunned, sitting on the sofa. "You have already known."
"I don't know. I'm waiting for you to tell me." She remained calm.
"Evelina." He held her hand. "Karen... came to Silverlight City. I went to see her this afternoon. You also know the reason I came to Maple Grove in the first place: she helped me, and I promised to repay her favor."
"Did she use the favor from back then to exchange for the project in Annabelle's hands?" she asked calmly.
"Yes." He nodded.
"Is there any favor between us?" she asked, "So many years of feelings and the help and companionship I gave you back then, can't that be considered a favor, too?"
Alex was a bit embarrassed. "Evelina, you never put me in a difficult position."
"I never put you in a difficult position. Have I spoiled you?" She used the gentlest tone to say the most intimidating words. "Alex, I'm gentle, I'm good to you; you should be grateful instead of thinking I'm easygoing and won't make a fuss. Interactions between people are always about give and take. You're good to me. I'm good to you. Trust is mutual. We've been together for so many years, and I thought you understood that."
Releasing his hand, she spoke again, "I'll exchange the feelings I've had with you for Jasmine and Ethan's project, you decide."
He had to choose between Karen and her.
"Evelina, I admit Jasmine and Ethan are very capable. Their project plan is also the most satisfactory to me, but they are strangers. Is it worth it for you to do this?" He couldn't understand.
"Absolutely worth it." She smiled. Have you asked Karen about her relationship with Annabelle? Annabelle even took her daughter's fiancé. She's willing to exchange such a big opportunity to win the project for Annabelle. Is she worth it?"
He was stunned, momentarily speechless.
"You see, facing your first love, you can agree to her request without asking for reasons, but facing me, you hesitate and think so much." She stood up, looking at him. "After so many years of a comfortable life, I thought I was the only one in your heart, the most important, but apparently not."
The true nature of people couldn’t withstand probing and scrutiny, let alone deep digging.
Alex's feelings for Evelina were deep, filled with gratitude and love.
But his first love seemed to be a permanent scar in his heart, peaceful when untouched but festering quickly once touched.
"Evelina, for this matter, I will also invest in Jasmine and Ethan's project. What do you think?" His compromise was a balance between both sides.
Her steps stiffened as she walked, looking back at him.
She had always thought she was his only one, the person he would choose without hesitation.
Now, it seemed that wasn't the case.
She and Karen stood at opposite ends of the scale in his heart.
It was truly chilling.
Details often hurt the most.
She had been with him for so many years, yet she was equally important as a first love he hadn't seen in over twenty years.
"When I accompanied you in starting the business, I said I wouldn't participate in decision-making for the company. The final decision lies with you," Evelina said somewhat wearily, casually, before returning to the room.
Alex sighed in relief, thinking she had compromised.
He got up to comfort her. "Evelina, once I make it up to her this time, I won't owe her anymore in the future..."
She felt very unhappy.
She thought, 'Would he truly let go of Karen after making it up to her?'
'Then what did these over twenty years of accompanying he mean?'
