Chapter 161 Ethan Severs Ties with Jasmine and the Douglas Family

Jasmine looked at Ethan, shocked.

It seemed like he planned to burn all bridges today. He had actually called the police and the media.

This was...

Taking a deep breath, Jasmine clutched Ethan's sleeve tightly.

Severing all ties with Howard wasn't going to do his current situation any favors.

Ethan simply took Jasmine's hand from behind and flashed her a smile. "I promised you a show."

He wouldn't let this slide, not by a long shot.

"You're crazy... You've really lost your mind!" Howard's voice trembled with fear.

Daniel stood frozen, watching the exchange of looks between Ethan and Jasmine, feeling as if someone had stabbed him in the heart.

"You've been bewitched, letting this vixen ensnare your soul!" In a fit of rage, Howard grabbed a vase from the table and hurled it at Jasmine and Ethan.

Ethan furrowed his brow, instinctively pulling Justin close and shielding Jasmine with his body, taking all the shrapnel for her.

"Ms. Clara, you are under suspicion of inciting intentional harm. Please come with us for questioning."

"Howard..."

"It's all a misunderstanding, just a family matter we'll resolve ourselves." Clara panicked, her anxious eyes on Howard.

This was a critical time for the Vice President nominations.

Even though she knew Howard could find a way to get her out, she wasn't content to just wait.

Anything could happen.

Filled with animosity, Clara lashed out at Ethan. "Ethan, you even turned your back on your own father for a woman."

"You're so evil..." Justin said timidly, clinging to Ethan. "Daddy, if they don't want you, I will protect you."

Ethan felt a lump in his throat and his eyes began to sting.

He chuckled and patted Justin on the head with a nod.

"Mr. Ethan, we heard Mrs. Clara is accused of poisoning you, is that true?"

"Mr. Ethan, the housekeeper who poisoned you at the Hawaii hotel, was she instructed by Mrs. Clara?"

"Mr. Ethan, what's your take on this?"

"Your current wife attacking your former wife's son, how do you feel about that?"

Outside the iron gate, the place swarmed with reporters.

The butler and servants hastily closed the iron gate, barely managing to keep the people at bay.

"Mr. Ethan, please come out and give us your statement."

The reporters outside were causing quite a commotion.

The police signaled Clara to follow them.

"I can’t go out with you in front of all these reporters, there's been a misunderstanding," Clara refused. "If you need to discuss this, contact my lawyer."

"Ms. Clara, please do not interfere with official police business," the officer said with a frown.

"What's your badge number?!" Clara screeched uncontrollably.

"Don't interfere with official business! Now you know what it's like to be embarassed in front of the press. A lack of legal consciousness, a vicious nature, and reckless actions," the cop said angrily, gesturing for Clara to come with him.

Howard, so upset he could hardly stand, trembled as he pointed at Ethan, unable to utter a single word.

"Don't touch my mom," Daniel said, his anger rising as he tried to protect Clara.

"For obstruction of official duties, I'll take you in too," the officer said in a low tone.

"Daniel! Step aside," Howard finally spoke, signaling for the police to take Clara away.

Clara hadn't expected her assistant to betray her. Clenching her teeth, she wasn't concerned about facing any serious trouble.

Collecting her thoughts, Clara addressed Ethan in front of the reporters. "Ethan, dear, I've been framed, and I'll prove my innocence."

"Whether you're innocent or not, justice lies in the hearts of the people," Ethan replied, his gaze shifting to the reporters outside. "I hope this experience teaches you a valuable lesson."

The reporters were snapping photos and recording the spectacle, witnessing the squabble among the wealthy and powerful.

It was a war without gunfire, brimming with drama.

Everyone knew that once this news hit the headlines, it would stay hot for weeks, maybe even dominating the front page.

"Get out! All of you, get out!" Howard was still in the living room, smashing things.

Ethan smirked, setting Justin down in Jasmine's arms and draping his jacket over Jasmine's head to shield her and Justin. "Did you enjoy the show? Are you ready to go home for dinner?"

With tears rimming her eyes, Jasmine looked up at Ethan. "What would you like to eat?"

"Whatever you make, I'll eat," Ethan murmured softly.

Jasmine bowed her head, her eyes moistening. "Let's go."

"Jasmine..." Jordan chased after them, wanting to speak with Jasmine.

Clearly, he wasn't ready to give up.

It was hard to tell if Ethan was just putting on an act. It remained unclear whether Ethan was genuinely with Jasmine or if he brought her intentionally to provoke Daniel and Clara.

Jasmine didn't look back; she got into Ethan's car.

Liam drove them away, with reporters tailing the car for a long time.

"Handle the PR, keep the buzz alive," Ethan ordered in a lowered voice.

Liam's palms were sweating, he held back his words.

He was worried.

Now wasn't the best time for a full-blown fallout with the Douglas Family. It might offer Clara an unexpected opportunity.

Once Howard decided to join forces with Clara against Ethan, Ethan's situation became even more precarious.

Jasmine was clearly aware of this, knowing the road ahead for Ethan would be even tougher.

However, she couldn't understand why Ethan, who was always so cautious, would do such things for her.

That was impossible.

"Mr. Ethan..." Jasmine spoke softly.

"In the next two weeks, Clara and Howard will lay low. We only have that window to eliminate Branson, the Davis trump card, before Clara recovers. Can you do it?" Ethan looked at Jasmine.

Taking a deep breath, Jasmine asserted, "I can."

Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Hmm, good."

"Jasmine, don't bite off more than you can chew... Two weeks is a short time, you..." Liam was worried about Jasmine, afraid she wouldn't succeed and that it would crush her.

"I can do it." Jasmine answered earnestly. "With you and the Douglas Family openly at odds now, Daniel won't keep a low profile anymore. If I'm not wrong, he'll show up at the company tomorrow, ready to take on you head-on! With Clara out, someone with Daniel's personality just needs a little provocation to make a mistake."

Jasmine bit her lip, then continued, "The same goes for Branson."

"Are you sure you understand Daniel that well?" Liam asked.

"I've known Daniel since I was a teenager... I know him very well." Jasmine nodded.

Ethan scowled and kicked the driver's seat. "Just drive!"

Liam drove on nervously, his palms sweating. The success in taking out Branson was crucial.

Daniel was for sure going to stir up trouble at the company tomorrow.

"Jasmine... the Branson card is vital, it's no laughing matter." Before getting out of the car, Liam reiterated, "Branson is a sly fox; you can't just find a mistake and fire him."

"I'll do my best..." Jasmine kept saying she could do it.

Ethan had helped her, and she would definitely help Ethan in return.

No matter how difficult, she would give it her all.

"You can go now." Ethan warned Liam, taking Justin in his arms and heading home.

Liam felt helpless; he was always getting reprimanded. He was scared too.

Looking at what Ethan had been doing recently, he had pushed himself into a corner.

He was starting to wonder if Jasmine had put a spell on Ethan.
