Chapter 353 Jasmine is About to Start a Lucky Life
Jasmine's stiffened mouth opened in shock as she looked at Ethan.
He smirked, avoiding eye contact.
Annabelle was indeed clever, but her luck wasn't great, perhaps due to her misdeeds. It seemed like even the gods weren't on her side; it was like lifting a stone to drop it on her foot.
From an outsider's perspective, it appeared that Alex was in charge of the Everhart family, but in reality, Mrs. Everhart held significant influence.
To the public, Mrs. Everhart seemed uninvolved in company affairs. She spent her days shopping, beautifying herself, and socializing as the epitome of a CEO's wife, mingling at various socialite and millionaire gatherings.
However, behind the scenes, Mrs. Everhart held more company shares than Alex.
"Mrs. Everhart, I'm not very interested in these luxury items; I'll make a call over there," Ethan announced his departure.
Mrs. Everhart smiled contentedly, understanding that he was giving her and Jasmine some space.
"Go ahead."
"Jasmine, let me tell you, men are all the same. Loving you doesn't make him exceptional. Let me tell you! Men primarily think with their lower parts. Do you think a woman can change a man?" Mrs. Everhart spoke frankly in front of Jasmine.
Jasmine felt bewildered. 'Just a while ago, Mrs. Everhart was discussing entrepreneurship and sharing her love story at the cafe. How am I supposed to respond to this now?'
"Probably not." Jasmine shook her head.
"Yes! Men never change for women, but women can grasp their throats and make them change," Mrs. Everhart made a gripping motion, looking rather fierce.
Mrs. Everhart made a fierce gripping gesture. Indeed, society was filled with women eyeing the position of a wealthy wife.
Every woman who managed to secure such a position was a battle-hardened warrior.
"Jasmine, don't be fooled by Ethan's current comforting gestures and compliance; that’s because he doesn’t have money now, but what about when he does? We can support him in his endeavors, endure hardships with him, and trust him unconditionally, but we shouldn't be fools. Youth is priceless; our love for men is our contribution. When men succeed, what's rightfully ours should be given to us, such as company shares."
Mrs. Everhart patted Jasmine's hand. "If this project goes through, I will speak up for you, asking Ethan for shares. We may not engage in company management; the men can decide everything, but we need capital, we need assurance; it's what we deserve. At least if the men change their minds in the future, we won't be left with nothing."
Jasmine nodded in agreement. "You're right."
"Let me tell you, be smarter," Mrs. Everhart advised, leading her into the luxury store.
The staff, recognizing Mrs. Everhart, were surprised since they usually served her at home.
"Mrs. Everhart, hello, this way, please," they said as they guided her to the VIP room, where a display specialist would showcase the latest items.
"Mrs. Everhart, how come you have time to come out today?" the sales assistant inquired with a smile.
"This is my niece; I brought her out for a stroll. Show her the latest items," Mrs. Everhart said, settling on the sofa with Jasmine.
Jasmine felt uneasy; even a casual bag here cost millions, and she hesitated to accept.
"Mrs. Everhart, I'm here to discuss cooperation. I haven't bought you a gift yet, and you're already giving me one," Jasmine remarked.
Mrs. Everhart shrugged off the concern. " We have lots of money; why not use it? Should we save it for men to spend on other women?"
Jasmine saw through it; Mrs. Everhart was feeling jealous.
She took a deep breath, considering how to decline.
"I heard Cordelia gave you that invaluable set of items. It's priceless. I thought she would give it to her daughter, but she gave it to you. What does that signify? She values you more than her daughter," Mrs. Everhart sighed.
"Do you know? Cordelia and I are good friends. We grew up together. I couldn't bear children, and she lost her daughter. We both have our sorrows. That jewelry isn't just valuable; it has a story. It was exchanged for by the man Cordelia loved dearly." Mrs. Everhart reflected, then shook her head.
"Let's drop it. Our generation faces too many insurmountable issues, putting on a facade of splendor." Mrs. Everhart patted Jasmine's hand. "Cordelia giving you the jewelry is a signal to all of us; you're important to her."
Jasmine looked at Mrs. Everhart in astonishment, unaware of the deep story behind the jewelry Cordelia had given her.
"Initially, I didn't understand. I thought she would be more concerned about finding her biological daughter. Today, I understand. Annabelle has been led astray; she's not trustworthy," Mrs. Everhart expressed her displeasure.
Jasmine remained silent, not knowing how to respond.
"This bag is quite nice," Mrs. Everhart said, selecting the most expensive one and trying to hand it to Jasmine.
Jasmine hesitated and felt at a loss about how to refuse.
"Cordelia and I grew up together, always competing. I married a better man than her. She had more children than me. We've been competing all our lives. She gave you something so expensive; I can't fall behind; I'll buy it!"
Jasmine felt helpless.
"Let me tell you, when I lost my child and had my uterus removed, she promised to let me raise her last child, have her daughter call me 'mom,' take care of me in old age, and we’ll leave our inheritance to this child. Both Alex and I are only children in our family; it's just the two of us left. We need successors. If this child turns out to be Annabelle, I don't want her; she's not trustworthy." Mrs. Everhart continued to express her anger.
Jasmine nervously smiled; Annabelle had clearly upset Mrs. Everhart.
It was evident that Mrs. Everhart cared deeply about these matters. It was no wonder Alex listened to her so attentively.
In Silverlight City, at Betty's residence.
Betty was napping when she received Jasmine's distress signal.
Jasmine: [Betty, I'm out shopping with Mrs. Everhart. She gave me a purse worth tens of thousands of dollars. What should I give her in return?]
At the end of the message, Jasmine added a “crying” emoji-I have no money.
Betty burst into laughter at Jasmine's claim of having no money, thinking, ' How could she think of giving a gift in return without money?'
Betty: [Wealthy people don't care about expensive gifts. Mrs. Everhart enjoys reminiscing. I once saw her post on Facebook about picking her favorite wild berries on the mountain, something like wild sour jujubes, saying they were delicious but hard to choose. It's the season for wild sour jujubes now; you and Ethan should try your luck on the mountain.]
Betty chuckled; with no money, giving Mrs. Everhart a heartfelt gift was more meaningful.
Jasmine responded with an “impressed” emoji.
Betty: [If you're broke, ask me for money; give me your bank account, and I'll give you some pocket money.]
Betty leaned back on the bed, feeling a bit proud.
Jasmine: [You're so kind. I'll ask you for pocket money on my birthday.]
Betty chuckled at the banter.
Richard emerged from the bathroom to find Betty laughing at her phone. "Who are you chatting with? Why are you laughing like that?"
"I won't tell you," Betty tossed her phone, hanging her around Richard's neck. "Richard, let's make love."
