Chapter 533 This Funeral Is Really Lively

Jasmine came to see Evan, and his condition had noticeably improved.

Knowing that Evan was sick, Jasmine didn't kick him while he was down. Instead, she stayed and talked with him for a while, even though neither of them had much to say.

"Evan, come on, eat more." Seeing Evan eating well, Evelina happily served him some soup. "Quick, this is your favorite."

Evan nodded and focused on eating.

From now on, he wouldn't be like this anymore; he had to complete his tasks first.

Jasmine and Ethan were in a dangerous situation right now, and he needed to help them get through this tough time.

After all, Howard wasn't easy to deal with.

Once everything was over and Jasmine could live well with Ethan, Justin, and Joe, it would be time for him to leave.

By then, he wouldn't have anything to worry about.

He wouldn't have any regrets either.

"Dad." Evan looked up and called Alex.

During this time together, Evan realized that Alex was truly a good father.

He just wasn't lucky enough to have lived with him since childhood.

Hearing this, Alex was so excited that his fork fell onto the table. He looked at Evan nervously, a bit at a loss. "Evan, are you feeling uncomfortable? Tell me..."

Evelina rolled her eyes at Alex. "If you can't say anything nice, say less. He is finally eating well."

Evan smiled. "Dad, Mom, I won't be like this anymore. I'll eat well and recover properly. Let's have the physical therapist come over tomorrow."

Evelina, holding her fork, looked at Alex excitedly and almost stood up herself. "Good, good boy, eat more. Starting tomorrow, we'll focus on your recovery."

Evelina's eyes were red with excitement.

Evan lowered his head, smiling as he ate, and tears started to fall as he continued eating.

Evelina and Alex didn't dare to speak, being very cautious and afraid of upsetting Evan.

But Evan had indeed changed. He no longer shut himself off like before. He started to come out, talk to Evelina and Alex, smile, and do some small tasks like picking vegetables, washing dishes, and cleaning.

Evelina was also happy, with more smiles on her face.

After all, she had the chanceto be his mother.

The next morning, it drizzled. Evan, who was dressed in a black suit with a white flower on his chest, was sitting in a wheelchair and looking pale.

"Evan." Karen, wearing a black cheongsam, cried hypocritically. "Come see your dad."

Evan looked at Karen coldly, knowing she was putting on a show for everyone, pretending to be a loving wife.

In reality, everyone knew their marriage was just a facade.

Karen stepped forward to push Evan, but no matter how hard she tried, the wheelchair wouldn't move. Evan simply wouldn't cooperate.

Karen frowned and leaned down to speak in a low voice, "Evan, your dad is dead. Everything in the Wilson family is ours. There's no need for you to be so stubborn with me. We are mother and son. Remember, I will never harm you."

Evan sneered and said nothing.

"Karen, my condolences."

Guests arrived one after another, placing white lilies and offering a few words of comfort.

Karen maintained her crying act, seeingguests off one by one.

When Jasmine and Ethan arrived, Karen was still wiping her tears.

Seeing Jasmine, Karen was momentarily stunned, then her face darkened. "What are you doing here? You're not welcome."

"The least welcome person here is you," Evan said in a deep voice, defending Jasmine. "You know best how Benjamin died. Looking at his body and portrait, aren't you afraid?"

Karen's face changed, and she instinctively glanced at Benjamin's portrait, speaking angrily, "Evan, shut up."

Jasmine ignored Karen and, with Ethan, placed white lilies in front of the portrait. "After all, I called him Dad for twenty-one years."

Ethan looked at Jasmine. "It's over."

Jasmine nodded. "Yes, it's over."

Karen stood to the side, sinister and silent.

Jasmine was about to leave when she saw a young woman outside, holding a child and crying loudly.

"Let us in, Benjamin, let me see Benjamin."

That was Benjamin's illegitimate child and his mistress, Tessa.

Karen's face darkened, and she gritted her teeth. "What's with the security? Get them out of here!"

Jasmine raised an eyebrow and didn't leave, standing with Ethan to watch.

"Benjamin, open your eyes and look at us, look at your son."

Tessa cried out, wanting everyone to know that Benjamin had a son. This way, Karen would have to think twice about trying to take all the inheritance for herself.

"Karen, you wicked woman, you killed Benjamin. It was you." Tessa cried and cursed at Karen.

Jasmine looked at the woman. Although Tessa wasn't a model citizen, Jasmine found it satisfying that she made Karen suffer.

"Benjamin said that everything in the Wilson family belongs to me and my son. Give it back to us." Tessa, holding the child, was clearly there to claim the inheritance.

"Give it all to you? Who do you think you are? And what is that thing you're holding? No one can prove that he was Benjamin's child. Make him stand up and acknowledge it now." Karen laughed, looking coldly at Tessa.

Now that Benjamin was dead, there was no way to prove that was his child.

Tessa's eyes were red from crying, looking at Karen with hatred, wishing she could kill her.

Unfortunately, Karen was ruthless and would never share what she had with Tessa.

Evan, sitting in his wheelchair, glanced at Tessa. "I can prove that's Benjamin's son. I agree to a paternity test, especially since the body hasn't been buried yet."

Karen was stunned, looking at Evan in disbelief. "Are you crazy?"

Was Evan crazy?

Was he really crazy?

Sharing Benjamin's legacy with that kid, what good would that do him?

"Do you want me to die?" Karen said frantically. "I'm telling you, I'm Benjamin's wife. I don't agree! No one has the right to exhume the body and do a paternity test!"

Evan sneered. His goal was just to annoy Karen.

Letting Tessa cause a scene would divert Karen's attention.

Recently, Karen had been getting too close to Howard, which was not a good thing.

"I also have a sister who hasn't been found. She is also Benjamin's biological daughter. Benjamin's inheritance should include her share." Evan looked at Karen coldly, seeing only a cold and ruthless woman.

When Benjamin was still alive, she was eager to find her biological daughter, not for any mother-daughter bond, but to use her daughter to fight for more inheritance.

But now that Benjamin was dead, everything would fall into her hands, so she wasn't in a hurry anymore. Not only was she not in a hurry, but she also didn't want to find this daughter anymore.

Because she wasn't sure if her daughter would come back and fight her for what Benjamin left behind.

"Evan." Karen frowned at Evan. It seemed this son really wouldn't listen to her anymore. "I am your mother! That's a fact you can't change."

"Look at my legs. This is thanks to you." Evan pointed at his legs, then at Benjamin lying in the coffin. "You are truly ruthless."

Karen snorted. She thought, 'Because none of you listen.'

"What a lively funeral." Howard and Claire walked in at the door.

Howard glanced at Ethan and snorted. "If a child you raised doesn't listen, you have to be ruthless and give up."

This was clearly directed at Ethan.

"Mr. Douglas, you and my mom are really alike. You know better than anyone how your wife died. My mom told me many years ago that you killed your first wife and that she has evidence. She said she would use it to blackmail you at a critical moment." Evan leaned back in his wheelchair, looking like he didn't care about anything anymore.

He wasn't afraid of anything, not even death. He just wanted Howard and Karen to distrust and guard against each other.
