Chapter 99 Ethan's First Test for Jasmine

Daria naturally wouldn't have thought that Jasmine was living with Ethan, and there was no way she could have known that Ethan had already disclosed his habits and taboos to Jasmine.
Some of the things Daria told Jasmine were things that even Liam didn't know, a mix of truth and falsehood.
Even if something really went wrong, at most Jasmine would be disliked and fired by Mr. Douglas, but it wouldn't come back to her.
The coffee part was true; Ethan habitually started his day with a black coffee.
Preparing snacks was something the previous secretary did, but anything with peanuts was not allowed to Ethan's peanut allergy.
As for Mr. Douglas disliking body odor, that was true. Ethan was a serious clean freak, but he also detested the smell of perfume on women.
Jasmine earnestly remembered everything and nodded sincerely. "Alright, I will make sure I do that."
"Alright, someone from the training department will take you for training shortly. Make good use of this time to learn. You'll start on Wednesday," Daria checked the time and asked Jasmine to leave for now.
Jasmine stood up, walked out of the office, and securely saved the recording.
It was always good to be prepared.
Taking a deep breath, Jasmine followed the training department's staff to the office.
Stellar Enterprises was not as simple as she had initially thought; Carmen and Daniel had definitely been pulling strings behind the scenes for years.
Although Ethan was clever, he wasn't meticulous in every detail; his character wasn't suited for winning over staff in key positions, so he often suffered losses.
After pondering for a while, Jasmine, with her head held high, began to contemplate the situation.
The HR manager played a crucial role; with the rapid turnover of employees in the company, if the HR manager were to replace seemingly unimportant but actually vital positions with Carmen and Daniel's people, things would become very risky for Ethan.
Jasmine studied business management at Stanford University. Although she was forced to drop out in her sophomore year, she had originally been admitted to Stanford University as the top student from Silverlight City.
...
HR Manager's office.
After Jasmine left, Daria pulled up Jasmine's file and glanced at it.
Her expression darkened, and Daria made a call to HR. "Come over."
Jasmine, a woman with only a high school diploma, serving as Mr. Douglas's personal secretary?
What a joke! What was Liam thinking by bringing in someone like this?
"Go find Liam and ask him why he sent us someone with just a high school diploma. Does he want Stellar Enterprises to become a laughingstock?" Daria clearly intended to quickly force Jasmine out.
She would do it by focusing on Jasmine's educational background.
Employees who made it into Stellar Enterprises were at least graduates from top universities; the recruitment standards at Stellar Enterprises were very high. Many talented individuals who wanted to join Stellar Enterprises couldn't even get an interview.
Jasmine only had a high school diploma. Even worse, she had a criminal record too.
What a joke!
If the company's employees found out about these things, Jasmine wouldn't last a day. Their mockery and ridicule would drive her out.
In the competitive world of business, where everyone was trying to outdo each other, the one with the weakest qualifications would surely become the target of everyone's attacks.
It all depended on whether Jasmine could handle this pressure.
"A high school diploma? That's impossible," the employee in charge of recruitment rushed into the office, looking shocked at Daria. "They actually found a woman with a high school diploma to be Mr. Douglas's secretary? Who has the audacity to do this? Are they trying to ruin us?"
"Not just a high school diploma, she also has a criminal record," Daria knew that the HR department staff were gossip lovers. She intended to use them voices to spread this information widely.
The fact that this unqualified criminal had become Mr. Douglas's personal secretary would certainly anger everyone.
"A criminal record?!" The HR staff member exclaimed in shock. "Where is she? Why haven't you asked her to leave yet? What's the point of keeping her here? Are we waiting to lose our jobs? Ms. Daria, this is no joke."
"Liam arranged this, go ask him," Daria replied cautiously.
Having been at Stellar Enterprises for twenty years and working in HR for over a decade, she had the skills to cement her current position.
A small figure like Jasmine wouldn't pose a challenge to her.
However, Carmen seemed to be wary of this Jasmine; she sent over a dozen WhatsApp messages in a row, instructing Daria to force Jasmine to leave Stellar Enterprises as soon as possible.
...
Jasmine was studying in the office, carefully noting down everything the training instructor had instructed.
"The assessment is the day after tomorrow. You must pass the assessment to take up the position, especially as Mr. Douglas's secretary. We need to be cautious. You need to work hard," the instructor emphasized to Jasmine.
Jasmine nodded. In reality, she wasn't worried at all about these tasks. As a former prodigy with an almost photographic memory, even after five years in prison and multiple MECT treatments, learning remained her instinct.
Besides, being a secretary was just a basic role.
What Jasmine was concerned about now was that the HR manager was deliberately misleading her, aiming to create problems for her while working with Ethan, leading to her dismissal from the company.
She had no grudge against Daria.
So there could only be one reason Daria was suddenly targeting her—Carmen.
Carmen must want her out of the company.
If she wanted to stay, it wouldn't be that simple.
Today morning, just before she left, Ethan intentionally mentioned some habits and taboos to her, probably to remind her not to be manipulated by others.
Ethan was too smart; he had already guessed that Jasmine's time at the company wouldn't be smooth sailing.
Yet, he still let her come.
He was also watching, to see if Jasmine was a suitable partner for collaboration.
Jasmine didn't need to deal with people like Daria; she needed to do something to impress Ethan.
...
CEO's office.
Liam walked in with coffee, speaking softly. "Mr. Douglas, as expected, someone from HR came to me, saying that Jasmine only has a high school diploma and a criminal record."
After glancing at his phone, Liam noted that this matter had already spread within a small group within the company. "You see, it's already circulating internally. Jasmine wants to stay, but it's not that simple. She's so submissive; what could she possibly achieve?"
Liam thought Jasmine would be better off as a canary, locked in a cage for people to admire, as she surely had no real abilities.
Ethan leaned back in his chair, deep in thought.
"Mr. Douglas, given Jasmine's weak character, merely the gossip and rumors from these people could be unbearable to her. Can she handle this pressure?" Liam was skeptical of Jasmine.
"What if she manages to stay and resolve the HR department's issues?" Ethan said meaningfully.
"That's not possible..." Liam almost chuckled, cautiously touching the tip of his nose. "Mr. Douglas, you're giving Jasmine too much credit."
As Ethan's assistant, he had to keep a close eye on all the employees in the company; he monitored everyone's every move and preemptively solved any issues for Ethan.
Jasmine? What a joke.
He hadn't been able to shake the HR manager in all these years. Could someone like Jasmine really take down a cunning fox like Daria?
"Let's make a bet. If you lose, you'll be Jasmine's errand boy for three months, no complaints, all tasks accepted," Ethan said, surprisingly in a good mood.
Liam laughed, thinking Ethan was sure to lose. It wasn't just him looking down on Jasmine, any normal person would.
"To catch the most elusive beasts, skilled hunters often masquerade as the prey." Ethan, however, didn't see it that way.
Jasmine was able to successfully become his contractual 'wife' because Ethan valued more about her than she realized.
Hopefully, she wouldn't disappoint him.
