Chapter 510 Slander Jasmine
Everyone was staring at Ethan, nervous. They knew he was strict, and someone was about to get in trouble.
Jasmine kept her head down, too scared to look at him.
She tried to explain but couldn't get the words out.
Group A was waiting for Jasmine to mess up, listening closely.
"Is the project info tough?" Ethan asked.
Everyone held their breath, waiting for the drama.
"I've been busy with other people's tasks all day. They keep asking me to do this and that, and then to print stuff," Jasmine said quietly.
"Isn't printing an assistant's job? Are you an assistant?" Ethan asked, holding the documents. "Doesn't Group B have an assistant?"
"This is Group A's info," Jasmine said, still avoiding his gaze.
Jacob from Group A looked nervously at Jasmine. "Jasmine, you can't say that. I thought you finished your tasks."
Jasmine frowned. "I helped you, and now you're blaming me?"
Jacob quickly explained to Ethan, "Mr. Douglas, Group A is really busy, and the assistants are all occupied. I noticed Group B wasn't doing much, especially Jasmine. She's always with Samuel."
Jacob hinted at an office romance between Jasmine and Samuel.
He dared to say this because Samuel was out on a project.
Jacob said it in front of Ethan because Ethan had a rule against employees dating each other.
"What?" Jasmine was stunned. "What are you talking about?"
Jacob looked like he had misspoken. "I'm sorry, Mr. Douglas. I shouldn't have mentioned it."
Jacob didn't notice Ethan's face changing.
"Are Jasmine and Samuel a couple?" someone asked. "But in the restroom, she said she was married to an older man."
Jasmine felt she couldn't defend herself. It was always like this; when people slandered her, she felt powerless.
But this time, Jasmine wasn't afraid. She believed Ethan would believe her.
"Yes, I heard it too. Jasmine said she was married and even wore a wedding ring."
Jasmine nervously glanced at her wedding ring, then at Ethan's, and quickly hid her hand.
People thought Jasmine was feeling guilty.
"Mr. Douglas said employees can't date each other," someone added.
Ethan looked at Jasmine, raising an eyebrow. "Dating Samuel?"
Jasmine looked at Ethan, scared. "She's slandering me."
"Jasmine, you know best what your relationship with Samuel is. You two are so close; everyone can see it," Jacob's words were laced with anger, revealing his realization that Jasmine was an easy target.
Such bullying was suffocating.
"I remember teaching you how to handle this," Ethan said calmly, reminding Jasmine.
Jasmine's hands trembled with anger. How could someone be so bad?
With determination, Jasmine raised her hand and slapped Jacob, though not very hard. "You're being ridiculous. I helped you all day, printing, doing spreadsheets, and now you're spreading lies about me?"
"How dare you hit me!" Jacob was shocked.
"Because you slandered her in public," Ethan said, standing in front of Jasmine. "Character over ability. Deborah, you chose all the people in Group A."
Deborah, who had been watching the drama, quickly straightened up when called out. "Mr. Douglas, this..."
"Check the surveillance footage and see what Jasmine's been doing all day," Ethan said, glancing at his assistant Scott.
Scott nodded and went to check the footage.
Jacob's face turned pale. "Mr. Douglas..."
"Or should we call the police for your slander?" Ethan added.
Jacob's face went even paler. "Mr. Douglas, I'm sorry. Jasmine and I are actually close. I spoke out of turn. We're friends, so..."
"I'm not your friend. I don't hang out with people like you," Jasmine said, almost in tears, clenching her fists. "If you keep spreading rumors, I'll call the police. I didn't marry an old man. My husband is great; he's only a few years older than me, and he's very outstanding."
Ethan raised an eyebrow, feeling quite pleased.
"I'll figure it out," Deborah said proactively.
Ethan snorted, looking at Jasmine. "Come with me."
Jasmine got up, feeling down, and followed Ethan.
As soon as they got into the elevator, Ethan kissed Jasmine in the corner. "You know how to fight back now?"
Jasmine's eyes were red with anger.
"That's out of line," Jasmine said angrily, wiping her tears on Ethan's shirt. "They actually called you an old man."
Ethan laughed. "Is that why you're angry?"
Jasmine whispered, "This definitely has something to do with Deborah."
"Should I fire her?" Ethan asked, holding Jasmine's hand and leading her out.
Jasmine tried to pull her hand away. "Don't let people see."
"So what if they see?" Ethan asked.
"You made the rule that employees can't date each other," Jasmine whispered.
"I'm stepping down as CEO," Ethan said. "I've been watching Samuel, and I believe he has the potential to be a great leader. Leaving LY is my way to protect it."
Once Samuel became the president of LY, Howard wouldn't dare to target LY anymore openly.
Jasmine was a bit nervous, worried that Ethan might feel a sense of loss. Biting her lip, she spoke seriously, "Then... Don't worry, I'll work hard and take care of you!"
Ethan pressed Jasmine against the office wall, touching her all over.
Jasmine blushed from his teasing. "What are you doing?"
"I'm resigning. Let's experience some office passion," Ethan said, raising an eyebrow.
Jasmine's ears turned red. "How can you be like this?"
"Deborah is very smart. Since she can incite people to gossip about you, she must have other plans," Ethan said, rubbing Jasmine's head. "Are you scared?"
Jasmine shook her head. "Deborah is different from Annabelle. She's smart, but she doesn't use malicious tactics. I'm not afraid of this level of scheming."
She was no longer afraid of these so-called rumors because she was more worried about Ethan getting into trouble.
"After you resign, where do you plan to go?" Jasmine asked, worried about Ethan.
She was concerned that Howard might target Ethan.
"I'm going to join Raymond."
Jasmine looked at Ethan in surprise. "Although Raymond is powerful and can compete with the Douglas Group, I've heard their president isn't a good person."
Jasmine bit her lip in worry. "I've heard from my brothers that the president of Raymond is cunning and only after profit. If he's willing to take you in despite the risk of conflict with the Douglas Group, he must have other motives."
Ethan's mouth twitched. "Nolan and the others said he's not a good person?"
"Yes, and I've also heard..." Jasmine said nervously. "I've heard he's a pervert and gay."
