Chapter 144 Zelda Gets Kicked Out
Jasmine spun around in alarm to face Ethan, her voice trembling with a sob, "Mr. Ethan... I-I need to go to the hospital." Without hesitation, she dashed toward the exit.
"I'll come with you." Ethan grabbed his coat, draped it over Jasmine's shoulders, and headed for the garage to get the car. "Get in."
Jasmine wanted to express her gratitude, but fear had seized her throat, rendering her mute.
"Find out which hospital Richard and Justin are at," Ethan instructed as he called Liam.
Liam, dealing with some hotel housekeeping issues in Hawaii, confirmed he would track Richard down. "Sure thing, Mr. Ethan."
...
At Silverlight City General Hospital's emergency room, Richard's phone lay shattered on the floor, a victim of theft and violence.
Justin, terrified, clung to Richard, his forehead bearing a cut from something sharp.
Richard clenched his fists, his anger barely contained.
Those damn Davies had crossed him again. Richard knew when to bide his time, but now they were escalating things.
"Richard, are you still refusing to get Jasmine back?" taunted Zelda, leaning in the doorway with a mocking smile. "I don't consent, and I daresay, who would dare to bandage this little bastard?"
Richard's grip tightened as he glared at Zelda and her entourage of guards. "This is a hospital."
"So, what?" Zelda sneered. Her stint in detention hadn't humbled her; it had only deepened her vendetta against Jasmine, particularly with the scandal involving Jasmine and Ethan fueling her rage on behalf of her sister Harper.
In Zelda's mind, Ethan was destined to marry her sister, and that made them family. She couldn't possibly side with an outsider over her brother-in-law.
"Make way," said a voice as Dr. Ryan Chen entered in a white coat with a medical kit in hand, approaching Justin's wound with concern. "Young man, are you scared of it hurting?"
Zelda, visibly stomped on by Dr. Chen's disregard, snapped angrily, "Didn't you hear me? Without my permission, no one is treating this child. Who are you?"
Ryan gave Zelda a brief, solemn glance without halting his nimble fingers, which held tweezers and a cotton swab, disinfecting Justin's wound.
Justin clasped his milk-white little hand tightly, staring up at Ryan bravely. "Doctor, will it leave a scar?"
"Caring about looks at such a young age?" Ryan teased with a light chuckle.
"No, it's not that." Justin's tears came in heavy gasps, but he fought to hold them back. "If my mom sees it, she'll...she'll worry."
He didn't want to make his mom worry.
Ryan's hand, holding the cotton ball, paused for a moment, unconsciously softening his touch. "No, it won't leave a scar. The cut isn't deep, and I'll be very careful with the stitches to make sure no scar shows, okay?"
Justin nodded obediently.
"What kind of parents let their child get hurt?" Ryan's voice dropped to a deep, firm tone as he scolded.
"They went to the rental smashing things up, and the broken glass cut Justin," Richard said tensely, holding Justin close. "Don't be afraid, Justin. The shot won't hurt."
Justin, with red-rimmed eyes, nodded. "I'm not scared; it's not your fault."
"Don't you understand?" Zelda was about to move forward angrily.
"This is a public hospital. Has the Brown family become this arrogant?" Ryan observed Zelda with stern eyes.
"Dr. Ryan, they...they're not letting us in," the nurse said, frustrated near the door.
"Call the police," Ryan instructed the nurse to alert the authorities.
As soon as Zelda heard the word 'police,' her complexion changed. "What's your name?"
"Ryan." He pointed to the name tag on his chest.
"Fine, you just wait." Zelda gestured to the security guard to let the nurse pass and then stepped aside to make a phone call to the hospital's leadership.
"Richard!" Erin burst through the door; her voice tinged with panic.
"Erin," Ryan casually greeted Erin, turning his attention back to treating Justin's forehead wound.
Erin glanced at Ryan, nodding her head in acknowledgment.
The Ryans had produced only this sole heir, who stubbornly refused to take over the family business, instead choosing to study medicine and become a doctor.
"Boss." Richard was startled, wondering why Erin was there.
Erin's eyes fell on Justin's face as she rushed over, anxious. "Justin, who did this to you?"
Justin had been so strong until he saw Erin, then the tears he was holding back burst forth.
"Why are you here..." Richard asked nervously.
"Why didn't you answer my call?" Erin fumed as she stormed into Richard's trashed rental. She couldn't find him and felt in her gut that something had gone horribly wrong.
She had covertly activated the GPS on Richard's phone.
"It wasn't a good time to pick up the phone," Richard whispered, carrying Justin to a nearby treatment bed.
"Who did this?" Erin demanded, pointing at Justin's wounds.
Richard remained silent.
Meanwhile, Zelda had just ended a call and sarcastically remarked, "Your boss is on his way. Don't say I didn't warn you. No one is allowed to touch this bastard's wounds until his mom shows up."
Only then did Erin notice there was someone else in the room.
Narrowing her eyes, Erin spun to face Zelda. "You hurt my kid?"
Zelda gave Erin a glance but did not recognize her.
Today, Erin was dressed down in casual wear with her hair in a high ponytail, looking much younger than her age.
Besides, Erin had moved to the States very early on, so naturally, Zelda wasn't too familiar with her.
In Silverlight City, the only socialite on par with Erin was Lisa.
Unfortunately, Lisa relied on the Douglas family for her status, whereas Erin had made it on her own.
Once, a media reporter asked Erin what it was like to marry into a wealthy family. Erin publicly retorted, asking the reporter to question her husband about what it felt like to have married into wealth instead.
"Your kid? Hah... Who the hell are you? Some delusional woman, Richard's girlfriend?" Zelda laughed. Richard had a girlfriend now after just a few days.
"Do you even know who Richard is?" Zelda demeaned Richard. "A man who indecently assaulted his own sister and can't keep it in his pants. You better stay away from him while you can."
Richard's brows furrowed; he wanted to explain but felt it was pointless.
Jasmine was right; when someone throws dirt on you, you get dirty whether you like it or not.
Erin turned back to look at Richard, and their gazes met.
His look was complex, but Erin's heart ached a bit for him.
"Which mental asylum did you escape from?" Erin wasn't one to indulge Zelda. She lunged forward with a swift kick, slamming Zelda against the wall.
The entire treatment room was in shock.
A young nurse gasped, covering her mouth, while the timid ones already hid behind Ryan's sturdy form.
Ryan, unfazed, simply raised an eyebrow.
His cousin had always been someone not to be trifled with.
Indeed, it seemed only magic could defeat magic.
Outside the door, Jasmine ran over in a panic, her eyes catching the graceful figure delivering a flying kick.
Speechless, Jasmine turned to look at Ethan, squinting in confusion. 'Did Zelda just got kicked?'
