Chapter 750 Does Steven Love Betty?

Sunshine Restaurant.

Steven, dressed in a suit and wearing glasses, looked like a refined scoundrel.

"Mr. Douglas." Seeing Ethan arrive, Steven stood up with a smile and extended his hand.

"I heard Mr. Hughes was back, and I thought it was just a rumor." Ethan smiled and sat down across from Steven. "What happened before?"

"I thought I was dead too. Back then, I was engulfed by flames because of protecting my wife and almost died." Steven had burn scars on the back of his hand.

Ethan had them too.

Steven's gaze fell on Ethan's neck, which was covered by a black turtleneck, and he smiled. "Mr. Douglas, aren't we kindred spirits?"

"It took me a year to get out of danger completely, and then a few more years to slowly recover, regain my physical abilities, I try to train and strengthen myself, and gradually reclaim what was mine. Only when I was fully capable of protecting my loved ones did I dare to come back." Steven said meaningfully, looking out the window.

"Mr. Hughes, the loved one you're talking about isn't Betty, is it?" Ethan didn't want to beat around the bush with Steven. "I heard Mr. Hughes has a loved one by your side. Even if she made some mistakes, it doesn't mean you don't love her, right?"

Steven looked at Ethan meaningfully and smiled. "My loved one? Is she even worthy?"

"Betty said you married her just as a cover to protect the one you truly love." Ethan said calmly. "Since there's no affection, why not exit this marriage under the premise of maximizing Mr. Hughes' interests? I think whether it's the Raymond Group, the Willer Group, or even the Cunningham family, they can all ensure Mr. Hughes' business interests and cooperation."

Ethan had shown enough sincerity.

This was essentially showing Steven that as long as he was willing to give up Betty, take what belonged to the Hughes family, and stop interfering in the couple's life, the Raymond Group, the Cunningham family, and the Willer family would all cooperate with the Hughes family to maximize their interests.

Steven took a sip of his drink, smiling somewhat bitterly. "Is that what Betty said? That I kept someone by my side and used her as a tool?"

"Isn't that the case?" Ethan frowned.

"I thought she understood me well enough. People like us, who put interests first, how could we leave vulnerabilities so openly by our side? When I married her I have vulnerabilities." Steven lowered his eyes and spoke again. "Mr. Douglas, thank you for your kindness. Betty is my wife, the person I fought to see even after escaping from the death."

"She was the only hope that kept me alive, that helped me endure the pain. I can give up everything, even die, but I can't live without her." Steven looked at Ethan, trying to empathize with him. "I heard Mr. Douglas and your wife have also been through a lot together. You should understand how I feel. After all the torment I went through, I just wanted to solve all the problems and come back to see her, only to hear that she got married and had a child. Can you understand how much that hurt me? She didn't wait for me."

"If it were you, Mr. Douglas, what would you choose?" Steven threw the question back to Ethan.

Ethan took a deep breath.

Steven's words were a mix of truth and lies, and Ethan couldn't tell. But his eyes were too passionate, as if he really loved Betty.

"If it were me, I would give her freedom and silently protect her." Ethan gently turned the wedding ring on his finger.

His gaze fell on Steven's hand, which also wore a wedding ring.

It was his and Betty's wedding ring.

"Sorry, I am not as kind as you." Steven shook his head. "I won't give up my belongings."

"I know Mr. Douglas is here today as a mediator. I've also heard that Richard is Mr. Douglas's wife's brother, so I won't harm him, as long as he voluntarily steps back." Steven's gaze gradually turned sharp. "After all, I've been missing for so many years. I can't expect Betty to remain chaste and lonely for me."

Ethan's face darkened. "Is thereo room for negotiation?"

"Yes." Steven's attitude was resolute.

Ethan nodded. "Alright."

Raising his glass, Ethan clinked it with Steven's. "I hope we can be partners, not enemies."

"If Mr. Douglas insists on seeing me as an enemy, I think that's unwise. You have a family. I don't believe that if Jasmine remarried while you were missing, you would willingly give her up." Steven downed his drink in one gulp.

Ethan was silent.

Indeed, he couldn't do it.

Just the thought of it made his heart ache terribly.

But as for Steven and Betty's true feelings, Ethan couldn't be sure now.

Betty said that Steven had treated her as a doormat from the beginning, using her to protect his lover.

But Steven implied that the so-called lover was to protect Betty from the start.

Ethan couldn't tell it for now.

"Mr. Douglas." Seeing Ethan about to leave, Steven spoke again. "I love Betty no less than you love your wife."

Ethan paused, didn't respond, and left directly.

If Steven was pretending and refused to give up Betty, it would be easier. If he truly had feelings, it would be more difficult.

Underground parking lot.

Ethan got into the car, and Raymond couldn't wait to ask, "How did it go?"

Ethan glanced at Richard sitting in the back and shook his head. "Steven said he loves Betty and won't let go."

Richard was silent, his hands tightly clenched, knuckles turning white.

"Is he crazy? What real feelings could he have?" Raymond said irritably. "It seems negotiation is out of the question."

"Richard, why don't you let Betty go first?" Raymond asked cautiously.

"Impossible!" Richard refused outright, his emotions slightly agitated.

He couldn't give up on Betty.

"Are you talking too much?" Ethan glared at Raymond.

"I'm doing this for his and Indigo's sake. Steven grew up in a gangster family, he's different from us." Raymond explained.

And he was especially different from Richard.

Richard was exposed to the lower levels of life, while Steven was exposed to a bloody life.

"Stay the course and don't reveal your identity. I'll put pressure on the Hughes family through project cooperation and see if he loosens up." Ethan reassured Richard.

Richard didn't say anything.

Ethan knew that Richard would never give up on Betty.

Unless Betty herself said, "I don't love you anymore, I love Steven, I want a divorce."

Otherwise, with Richard's stubbornness, he would never give up on Betty, not even in death.

Betty's residence.

She hadn't slept all night and was dozing off on the couch.

She had been having nightmares for the past few days.

Dreaming of everything after she marrying Steven. In the nightmare, Steven said to her,

"Betty, I married you only for the alliance. What right do you have to boss Aspen around!"

"Betty, remember your place. You are my wife, just a wife."

"Betty, between you and Aspen, I will always choose her."

"Betty, what right do you have to become my vulnerability."

"Betty, stay alive."

"Betty, you are mine, always mine, only mine."

Betty suddenly opened her eyes, breathing heavily.

She had dreamt of that bastard Steven again.

Her phone rang.

It was an unknown caller.

Betty answered, listening cautiously.

"Betty, it's me." On the other end, Brade's voice was hoarse and panicked.
