Chapter 463 Deborah Comes Back with a New Identity

Lily watched helplessly as her hopes shattered, dragged to hell like an animal by them.

She looked at the man leaving with despair.

She fell into darkness as she saw the coldness in his eyes.

At that moment, Lily understood that the world was harsh and there was no savior.

She sank into the darkness and despaired in the void.

Even though he hadn't participated in that violent frenzy that day, he was still a cold-hearted onlooker.  To Lily, he was no different from the others, perhaps even more disgusting.

Leaning against the wall, Lily struggled for a long time before she took steps towards the man.

She picked up a brick from the ground, intending to smash it down hard to end him.

Lily trembled with sobs as she held the brick. But in the end, she only smashed the brick against the wall beside the man to vent her anger.

"I won't go to hell again, but you will. You will be punished," Lily said hoarsely, grabbing the man's collar and dragging him away.

At the café entrance, Jasmine arrived to find Connor already there.

"Get in the car," Connor lowered the car window and said.

Jasmine lowered her head and opened the back door.

"Sit in the front." Connor frowned.

Jasmine said nothing and still sat in the back. Once inside, she said, "I'm married. I don't sit in the front seat with strange men unless it's necessary."

"You're divorced," Connor reminded her sternly, somewhat displeased.

Jasmine thought for a moment and retorted, "We will get remarried."

"It seems you didn't take my words seriously." Connor raised an eyebrow at Jasmine.

She was quite stubborn currently.

"No way, Ethan is mine. We'll get through difficulties together. Even if he has nothing, we won't be worse off. Deborah can't possibly bring down the Cunningham family. I still have four brothers." Jasmine clenched her hands tightly as if venting her emotions at Connor.

Connor glanced back at her. "You trust Ethan that much. What if he doesn't like you anymore? What if the old flame between him and Deborah is rekindled?"

He listed all the points that could provoke Jasmine, giving her a wake-up call.

"I trust Ethan," Jasmine said stubbornly. "With his ability and character, if he truly loved Deborah, he wouldn't have waited all these years."

No matter what, she trusted Ethan.

"You're too dependent on him. This isn't a healthy love." Connor sighed. "What if Ethan disappears forever, dies? What will you do then?"

Jasmine's back tensed, instantly on guard.

"Too many people want Ethan dead," Connor reminded her.

"I will protect him," Jasmine said word by word.

Connor mocked, "You can't even protect yourself. How could you protect him?"

Jasmine said nothing but clenched her fists tightly. She would protect Ethan. She wouldn't let anyone hurt him.

Connor was silent for a long time, his fingers slowly tightening around the steering wheel.

Jasmine still placed too much importance on Ethan.

She was avoiding his hypothetical scenario, which meant she couldn't bear the consequences of losing Ethan.

She and Ethan were in a symbiotic relationship.

She still hadn't found her true self.

She was parasitic on love, using it to disguise and arm herself.

It seemed as though she had become very strong, with layers of armor protecting her, but once that armor cracked, it would be unbearable for Jasmine.

At Silverlight City International Airport.

Ethan personally came to pick up the project director returning from Country M.

Howard was currently targeting his company. Although the company was only bait, the ultimate goal was to make every effort to stop Howard as much as possible.

"Mr. Douglas, who is this new director that requires your personal attention?" Derek asked, somewhat puzzled.

Ethan glanced at his watch. "I heard he's from Silverlight City."

Ethan had done a background check but didn't pay much attention to the person's identity or appearance; he only needed his competence.

Derek nodded and waited as he held a sign.

Before long, a beautiful woman in a casual suit with long flowing hair walked out, pulling a suitcase. She removed her sunglasses and smiled at Ethan. "Long time no see."

Ethan frowned. It was Deborah.

"Let me reintroduce myself. I'm Marissa, the new project director here to help your company," Deborah said with an elegant and proper smile.

"It's you," Ethan said, but not responding with Deborah's outstretched hand.

Deborah smiled. "Yes, I have been in Country M to study and improve myself these past few years."

Because of Deborah's excellent performance, she had the opportunity to be recommended by her mentor.

Many big companies were vying for her. Ethan hadn't initially thought she would agree to join, especially since the invitation came from a newly established company.

But she had agreed.

Ethan hadn't expected it to be Deborah.

Deborah was indeed smart. Ethan wasn't surprised by her achievements, but he was wary of her intentions.

"Why P3?" Ethan asked in a low voice.

Deborah smiled and looked at Ethan seriously. "I'm here to help you."

Ethan scrutinized her.

"I know you're in trouble. I wanted to come back earlier to help you, but I had one last exam to finish. Now I can finally come back to help," Deborah said, her smile fading.

"In that case, let's have a pleasant cooperation," Ethan said expressionlessly.

Deborah smiled. "After all these years, don't you miss me?"

Ethan spoke in a low voice, "If information abroad isn't blocked, you should know I'm married. Joking with a married man should be done in moderation."

Deborah's smile turned awkward for a moment but quickly returned to normal. "Your wife is very strict with you. I never thought you'd be under someone's control."

Ethan walked ahead quickly. Deborah's delicate high heels clearly couldn't keep up.

"It's not just my wife being strict; it's also my self-discipline as a husband," Ethan said flatly, walking quickly and giving Deborah no chance to get close. It felt like he was avoiding her.

Deborah watched Ethan's back and smiled. "Your self-discipline as a husband is quite commendable."

Ethan didn't respond.

Outside the airport, Ethan had Derek take Deborah to the hotel. "The hotel is arranged. Where to stay is up to you. He will take you there."

Derek looked at Ethan. "Mr. Douglas, how will you get back?"

"Don't worry about me. Go ahead," Ethan replied.

Deborah wanted to say more to him but thought there would be plenty of time in the future, so she let it go.

"Ethan, I genuinely want to help you, just like before," Deborah said, closing the car door as the driver drove away.

Ethan checked the time and decided to go to the school to check on Jasmine. He wondered what she was doing at that moment.
