Chapter 420 Sophia Mistaken Arnold for a Bodyguard

The tall and muscular bodyguard was startled by Sophia's collision, looking down at the middle-aged woman leaning against him. "Madam?"

This time, Sophia really lost her balance and almost fell to the ground in an embarrassing manner.

At the entrance of the banquet.

Cordelia glanced at Arnold standing nearby, then at Sophia, who had bumped into the bodyguard. "What are you doing standing here?"

Arnold smiled at Cordelia. "Cordelia, I came alone. A charity gala needs a female companion; you know I don't like socializing with others. Seeing so many people alone, I got scared."

She looked at Arnold as if he were a monster. "You don't like socializing? Are you crazy? No one attends a charity gala with a competitor. You may not care about your reputation, but I do."

"Your husband just went in with a flashy woman. If you go in with me, it will keep them in check." Arnold stepped forward, blocking Cordelia, and recommended himself.

"We've been competitors for almost twenty years, and I haven't hit you yet. You don't know how powerful my slap is." Cordelia pointed to her slender hand.

Arnold just smiled, not angry at all, looking as if he had no presence.

Only Cordelia knew that this man was good at disguising himself.

In the business world, he was decisive and strategic, always planning from behind the scenes.

Over the years, the Sanders family had become very powerful in Country M.

"There are many people at the charity gala; you definitely don't want to be outdone by others." Arnold successfully hit Cordelia's weak spot.

Over there, Sophia pushed away the bodyguard and stared at Arnold's back in a daze.

This back looked familiar.

Summoning her courage, Sophia intended to initiate a conversation with Arnold. But upon seeing him engaged with Cordelia, fear took hold and she instinctively retreated. Obviously, she was scared after being beaten yesterday.

Cordelia also saw Sophia and sneered.

Willian actually brought Sophia to such an important event; he must be retaliating for her hitting them with a stick yesterday.

"Did you see that? Willian, the head of the Cunningham family, actually brought his mistress to the charity gala, completely disregarding the Cunningham family's hostess."

"The hostess is really pitiful."

People were already whispering among themselves.

Clearly, they were all here to watch the drama.

Cordelia's face was very unpleasant as she prepared to enter.

"Let's go." No one knew where Arnold got the courage, but he boldly grabbed Cordelia's wrist in front of those women and led her inside.

Inside the venue, everyone was shocked to see Arnold holding Cordelia's wrist.

What was going on?

This must be the dirtiest business war in history.

Competitors actually hold hands to attend a charity gala together.

Cordelia was also stunned, struggling hard but unable to break free.

She thought Arnold must be crazy, too.

Over there, Sophia quietly hid in the crowd, still badmouthing Cordelia.

"Sophia, Willian brought you here today. Is something good going to happen? Is he going to divorce Cordelia and marry you?" a familiar woman asked.

Sophia smiled. "Willian listens to me. He wanted to divorce and marry me twenty years ago. I only pitied Cordelia for raising three kids alone and losing a daughter."

"You're just too kind." That woman clearly had a skewed sense of values, probably also a mistress.

Sophia smiled. "If I wanted, he would divorce her for me anytime. Over the years, whenever Cordelia called Willian, he would let me listen in because he was afraid I'd misunderstand."

Her audacity as a mistress made it seem to those unaware of the situation that she was the real wife.

Cordelia happened to pass by and overheard.

Sophia didn't realize Cordelia was standing right behind her.

The woman's face changed dramatically.

Sophia, unaware, continued, "Cordelia thinks just because she gave Willian three sons, that's enough. It's laughable."

Behind her, Arnold's eyes darkened as he looked at Sophia's back, then glanced down at Cordelia.

His expression was complicated.

Years ago, he had asked her if she dared to divorce; he would marry her.

But Cordelia had only taken his words as a business tactic.

"Can you tolerate this?" Arnold asked.

Cordelia flexed her wrist. "When I can't tolerate it, I won't."

She gracefully took a glass of red wine from a waiter's tray, walked over, and poured it over Sophia's head, pulling her hair.

Sophia screamed and stumbled back, looking at Cordelia in embarrassment. "Are you crazy?"

"An unwelcome or immoral person can avoid criticism and punishment in a hidden place, but once exposed to the public, they will be condemned and despised by everyone," Cordelia said in a low voice.

Sophia gritted her teeth, looking around at the people watching the spectacle.

Willian rarely brought her to such charity galas, so this time, she naturally wanted to establish her authority in front of these people.

Taking a deep breath, Sophia raised her hand to hit Cordelia.

"How dare you fight back!" Arnold stepped forward, standing behind Cordelia, his voice low.

Clearly, he was backing Cordelia.

The crowd took a few steps back, continuing to watch from a safe distance.

"Is that Arnold? The most mysterious CEO of the Sanders Group. It can't be."

"Have you ever seen Arnold?"

"I heard someone call Arnold at the door, but two men came in; not sure which one it is."

"He's just a bodyguard. I saw him walking behind the other guy the whole time," a few people whispered.

Sophia looked up at Arnold, her expression shifting from surprise to shock, then to terror. "Guadalupe?"

Cordelia frowned, turning to look at Arnold.

Sophia and Arnold actually knew each other. She even knew he used to be called Guadalupe.

Sophia's face changed dramatically, glancing around. "You actually became Cordelia's bodyguard. You haven't made any progress all these years!"

Arnold's face was somber, but he was much calmer than Sophia's shock.

Realizing that the person beside Cordelia was not Arnold but Guadalupe, Sophia suddenly breathed a sigh of relief and laughed. "Cordelia, coming to a gala without your husband and bringing a bodyguard instead. You're really something."

Cordelia looked at Sophia as if she were a lunatic, then turned to look at Arnold.

Arnold leaned down and whispered in Cordelia's ear, "I rarely show my face, so few people recognize me. Those people probably mistook the bodyguard for me. Don't say anything; I don't like socializing."

Arnold pretended to be scared, glancing at the bodyguard, Dominic, who was surrounded by a group of women.

Dominic's tall figure looked quite imposing. He was used to being mistaken for Arnold and stood there comfortably, enjoying the attention.

"You should choose a better bodyguard." Sophia sneered, looking Guadalupe up and down with disdain.

Cordelia's competitive spirit instantly flared up. "It's not your place to judge my people. You're nothing."

Arnold smiled at Cordelia.

She was still the same as before.
