Chapter 745 Betty's Ex-Husband Isn't Dead

"Betty, honey." Richard murmured.

In the end, Betty softened and lifted Richard onto the bed, even cleaning him up.

"If you drink like this again, I'll kill you," Betty threatened, pinching Richard's ear, but still kissed his alcohol-flushed cheek with concern. "Idiot, how can you let people bully you like this?"

Those so-called family members.

Betty sneered.

That year, the Willer family faced a financial crisis.

The so-called family members of the Willer family unanimously decided that she should marry into the Hughes family to maximize the benefits of the alliance.

With a few words, they pressured her into the moral high ground, using morality and the fact that the Willer family raised her with difficulty to emotionally blackmail her.

At that time, although Betty was rebellious, she was indifferent to marriage. She was focused solely on her career, so it didn't matter much to her whom she married.

Marrying into the Hughes family or marrying a beggar on the street made no difference to her as long as there were benefits.

So, Betty agreed to the arranged marriage and let her parents handle everything.

Unfortunately, the Willer family didn't tell her that the Hughes family had a background in organized crime.

There was a mixed bag of good and bad, a treacherous pit.

Marrying Steven was the biggest regret of Betty's life.

She still remembered their first meeting, it was more like negotiating a business deal than discussing marriage.

"Do we need to sign a prenuptial agreement?" Betty asked Steven, who was sitting across from her.

Steven was very handsome, somewhat similar to Richard in aura, but having grown up in a crime family, Steven exuded much more confidence and ruthlessness than Richard.

Betty didn't like Steven's overbearing attitude, as if he looked down on everyone.

"No need," Steven found it troublesome.

He probably thought Betty wouldn't become a threat to him.

"We agreed that since this is an arranged marriage, we should respect each other. If you find a woman you love, you can tell me, and I won't stop you," Betty said calmly.

Steven looked up and glanced at Betty. "After we get married, come back to Muskow with me."

"I suggest we live in separate countries," Betty didn't really want to go back with Steven.

"Follow your husband wherever he goes," Steven's assistant snorted. "Ms. Willer doesn't seem to understand your current situation."

To put it nicely, it was an arranged marriage, to put it bluntly, the Willer family was selling her.

Betty's eyes darkened, and she smiled. "Steven, your people really don't know their place."

Steven gave his assistant a cold look and stood up. "Let's get married first, then we can discuss whether I stay in Silverlight City with you or you come back to Muskow with me."

Betty frowned. "Shouldn't you go to Muskow while I stay in Silverlight City? Do we really need to be together? Aren't you just looking for a woman to shut up your family?"

After all, Steven was publicly known to prefer men.

Steven smiled. "Since we're married, of course, we should be together."

Betty glared at him and got up to leave.

Just as she reached the door, a reckless guy charged at her.

Betty frowned and quickly dodged. The man was clearly intentional and pulled out a knife to attack her.

Steven's face darkened, wanting to help Betty, but she was faster.

Betty grabbed the man's wrist and kicked him between the legs.

The man fell to the ground, wailing.

Steven took a sharp breath, looking at Betty.

Betty threw away the knife she had taken from the man and looked coldly at Steven. "You didn't mention that marrying into the Hughes family came with such a welcome gift."

Steven smiled, starting to take an interest in Betty. "The Hughes family isn't as simple as you think. Marrying into it might be dangerous. Are you scared?"

Betty laughed. "Fortune favors the bold. You're so rich, if you die, all your assets will be mine."

Steven was stunned for a moment, then his lips curled up. "Let's go, madam, let's get married."

"Liar, get out." Betty had another dream.

She dreamed of Steven, her first husband, who left her a huge fortune.

And also he left her with immense danger.

Since Steven's death, Betty's safety had become a top priority.

She was the sole heir to Steven's fortune. She and Steven had no children, not even a sexual relationship.

From the beginning, her relationship with Steven was a transaction.

But in this transaction, he gave hisheart and lost his life.

"Richard!" Startled awake by the nightmare, Betty sat up, breathing heavily.

Richard was no longer in the room. He was too disciplined, probably because he had been in the military. Even if he was dead drunk the night before, he could still get up on time to go for a run the next day.

Betty felt a bit jealous of his discipline, but if Richard weren't disciplined, he wouldn't be Richard.

"Hasn't Richard come back from his run yet?" Betty asked the housekeeper after washing up and going out.

The housekeeper was taken aback. "Mr. Brown went out late today, he just left."

Betty was stunned.

"He said you had a nightmare and didn't want to disturb you, so he let you sleep a bit longer." the housekeeper added.

Betty's heart tightened. She had that dream again.

In the dream, she must have called out Steven.

In fact, Richard had heard Betty call Steven many times, but he never asked.

He was always like that, keeping things to himself, never wanting to trouble others.

Even though he cared deeply, he always thought that once Betty completely let go, she would tell him.

But the name Steven was always a taboo for Betty.

Not only did she never mention it, but no one in the Willer family could mention it either.

If it was brought up, Betty would definitely flip out.

Richard actually cared, was jealous anxious.

Growing up by May's side without the protection of biological parents or the confidence of other rich kids, he had always been someone who lacked security and confidence.

Richard loved Betty very much, but he feared he wasn't good enough and Betty had someone else in her heart.

Richard was also afraid he couldn't measure up to Steven.

Especially since Steven was dead.

When Richard came back from his run, Betty was sitting at the dining table waiting for him.

Richard wiped his sweat and sheepishly went into the bathroom. When he came out after a shower, Betty was still staring at him.

"Honey," Richard scratched his head. "I'm sorry, maybe the alcohol was fake last night."

"It was so obvious they wanted to get you drunk and make a fool of you, and you couldn't understand it?" Betty was both helpless and concerned.

Richard smiled. "Malcolm and Abigail asked me for a favor, said there was trouble at the company, so I went to handle it. They insisted on treating me to dinner. They said they informed you, but I found out they didn't when I got there."

Betty ground her teeth. "You're always so naive, letting yourself be used as a tool by others. From now on, no matter who from the Willer family asks for you, you can't go."

Richard walked over, sat next to Betty, and coaxed her softly. "I'll listen to you."

Richard just wanted to be the perfect husband.

"Richard, you are my husband." Betty actually understood what Richard was afraid of.

She had been married before, which was a thorn in Richard's heart.

It wasn't that he minded Betty had been married, Richard was afraid he wasn't as good as Steven.

So he would try his best to be good to Betty and tolerate all the Willer family members.

"I'm not close to those people in the Willer family." Betty wanted to complain to Richard about how bizarre her relatives were, but her phone rang.

Betty glanced at it, it was an unfamiliar number from Muskow.

She answered the call, and a hoarse voice said, "Betty, I'm back."

That voice made Betty's whole body stiffen.

It was Steven.
