Chapter 315 Your Wife Shamelessly Declares Love for My Husband
Jasmine sniffed. "It's okay, Mrs. Everhart. I'm fine... although it's a bit unfair. Annabelle is right. I am just a child from a poor family without a prestigious background. My biological mother switched me at birth when I was still a baby. Growing up at the Jasmine Residence, my true identity was revealed, and I indeed don't have the qualifications to sit with her."
Jasmine anticipated that Annabelle would also mention her background and her time in prison, so she decided to bring up the matter herself, not giving Annabelle a chance.
"Mrs. Everhart, I..." Annabelle wanted to say something but was directly interrupted by Jasmine.
"I'm sorry, Annabelle. You used to call us friends, but after you found out about my wrongful imprisonment, you didn't want to associate with me anymore. I understand. It's difficult for someone with a tainted past to prove their innocence and capabilities. But during my time at the Cunningham Group, I have always relied on my abilities. I've helped the Cunningham Group secure several major projects and will continue to work hard and learn."
Jasmine wiped away tears and snot.
Following Betty's advice, she made sure to leave no room for Annabelle to speak. Betty mentioned that in Silverlight City, there was a club where students invest four thousand dollars, gaining access to a dedicated instructor who guides them on the art of demeaning themselves. Jasmine mingled among them, learning a lot of things.
"Jasmine!" Annabelle was at a loss for words.
Jasmine had said everything, admitting her time in prison and how she had secured major projects for the Cunningham Group from scratch. She practically had her competence written on her face.
Jasmine glanced at Annabelle, wiped her tears, and said, "Mrs. Everhart, I'm fine. Please seat down."
Mrs. Everhart comfortingly held Jasmine's hand, gesturing for Annabelle to sit as well. "You two are good friends. Don't dwell on these trivial matters. Friendship is what matters most."
"Mrs. Everhart, you're right." Jasmine smiled and agreed. looking at Annabelle. "Annabelle, are we still considered best friends?" Annabelle had to respond to Jasmine's question. Otherwise, she would appear narrow-minded. Mr. Everhart looked displeased. If Annabelle didn't answer, it would imply looking down on capable individuals from humble backgrounds.
"Of course," Annabelle adjusted her attitude and smiled as she spoke. After all, she was a cunning fox. "That's great. You used to say we were best friends, willing to accommodate me in everything. This project investment is important for us, but for the Douglas Family and the Harper Family, it's just a minor issue. After all, with the backing of large companies, even if we can't secure funding, big companies have our backs."
Jasmine spoke with a smile, looking at Mr. Everhart. "Mr. Everhart, I apologize for discussing the project so frankly. I wonder if you are familiar with my husband, Ethan."
Mr. Everhart nodded with a smile. "Ethan, the young talent in the business circle, who doesn't know him?"
Jasmine smiled, holding Ethan's hand. "Ethan and I started from scratch during a low period, with no one's support. Some even tried to hinder us from rising. No matter how many storms we face, we will face them together."
Mrs. Everhart had accompanied Mr. Everhart since the early days of his entrepreneurship. They were a rare couple of true love in their circle.
Mrs. Everhart enjoyed seeing sincere young people and reflecting on her youth.
Mr. Everhart nodded, having a general understanding of the Douglas family's setbacks. "It's a pity that the Douglas family drove Ethan away."
"It's not a pity. Without leaving the comfort zone, perhaps I would never see the true colors of those around me, human or otherwise." Ethan smiled lightly, composed and confident.
Ethan's aura was so stable that Mr. Everhart's fondness for him increased significantly. The wealthy businessmen of Maple Grove had a keen eye for people. Ethan exuded stability and confidence, a person destined for wealth and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Annabelle was grinding her teeth in anger, unable to interject. It was evident that Mr. Everhart and Ethan were engrossed in their conversation, while Jasmine and Mrs. Everhart found common ground easily. Annabelle couldn't find a way to join in or interrupt.
Jasmine, being clever, had learned from Betty about topics and preferences, deliberately choosing topics that Mrs. Everhart enjoyed discussing. She even presented a gift that touched Mrs. Everhart deeply.
That evening, the collaboration was essentially sealed. Mr. Everhart asked Ethan to bring the project proposal to Maple Grove to meet him. He insisted that Jasmine accompany Ethan, and they would be well taken care of in Maple Grove. Ethan agreed, seeing it as an opportunity to take Jasmine on a vacation and relax a bit.
Outside the hotel.
After bidding farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Everhart, Jasmine happily linked arms with Ethan and exclaimed, "Oh, I was so nervous! Did I do okay? Is my face too stiff?"
"You used to be so socially anxious, and now you're so confident in communicating with people. Betty's influence is quite significant," Ethan chuckled, pinching Jasmine's nose.
Jasmine leaned against Ethan's shoulder, smiling. "I didn't expect Mrs. Everhart and Mr. Everhart to be so approachable."
"They also come from humble backgrounds and have had to work harder than others. They've met more people than most, and their eyes, even if not all-seeing, are quite discerning," Ethan said, embracing Jasmine. "But, my wife is the most remarkable."
Ethan felt warm inside as if he felt as though she had stumbled upon a magnificent treasure.
Indeed, fate worked in mysterious ways.
Annabelle emerged in high heels, her expression dark due to anger. "Don't celebrate too soon. This is Silverlight City. Without the Douglasfamily's support, if Ethan wants to make a comeback, it will depend on us."
Jasmine hugged Ethan, hiding in his embrace, and softly remarked, "Is the food tonight so heavy-handed? It's making everyone restless." Ethan smiled and ruffled Jasmine's hair. "Maybe."
"Ethan!" Annabelle shouted in frustration. "Jasmine lacks education and experience. She doesn't understand. Don't you understand either? Do you have to force me to take action against you?"
Ethan ignored Annabelle.
Annabelle's voice choked with emotion. "You're only daring to hurt me so recklessly because you know I love you, challenging my limits."
Jasmine frowned, visibly angry. "Your husband is still alive. Why are you speaking so pessimistically? Aren't you cursing Daniel to die early? Daniel may have his faults, but he doesn't deserve death. Your words are too harsh!"
Daniel, who had just come out of the hotel and was unaware of the situation, thought Jasmine was defending him. Feeling grateful, he stepped forward and said, "Jasmine."
"Don't call me," Jasmine snorted, "Your wife claims to love my husband, treating you as if you were dead. You're so foolish."
Annabelle was almost unable to stand, breathing heavily. "Jasmine, I'll see how long you can be arrogant! Do you really think Ethan can protect you? Let's see about it."
Annabelle started to make threats.
Jasmine knew she had succeeded in stripping away Annabelle's layer of hypocrisy. From then on, Annabelle wouldn't be as invincible.
