Chapter 653 Jasmine Waited for Ethan for a Long Time

Jasmine shot a glance at Avery. "You and Edgar, huh?"

Avery cut her off. "Jasmine, watch it."

Jasmine felt a bit intrigued and cleared her throat.

She had to admit, Edgar had good taste.

The elevator doors slid open, and Avery reminded Jasmine to be careful again.

Jasmine frowned slightly; Avery's words had a clear warning.

She had just slapped Deborah multiple times, and knowing Deborah, she wouldn't let it slide.

As soon as they stepped into the underground parking lot, a white van screeched to a stop in front of her.

Ben instinctively shielded Jasmine, but it was futile; she was swiftly pulled into the van.

"Aren't you gonna dial 911?" Avery asked, seeing Ben just standing there.

Ben didn't respond; he didn't trust Avery much.

Getting kidnapped was part of Jasmine's plan.

But Ben was a bit worried about Jasmine, especially since she was pregnant.

"Tom, are you on it?" Ben called Tom.

Outside the Hawthorne Group, Tom's car tailed the white van.

Inside the van, Jasmine sat calmly, showing no signs of panic.

Instead, the kidnappers seemed a bit nervous.

As the eldest Cunningham daughter, could they really snatch her? Yet, the money on the table was too alluring.

"Did Deborah put you up to this? What's the deal?" Jasmine asked coolly.

"Don't sweat it. Long as you don't put up a fight, you'll be fine," the leader said, sounding unsure.

Jasmine was too calm, clearly knowing they wouldn't dare hurt her.

"I gotta know where the heck we're headed, at least.," Jasmine said, looking out the window.

She knew Deborah was Owen's pawn, and the trio—Deborah, Owen, and Mark—were desperate to find out if Ethan was still in the vicinity.

Resting her chin on her hand, Jasmine quietly watched the scenery pass by.

She wanted to know too.

Jasmine was taking a gamble to see if Ethan was really out there.

Knowing it was a long shot, yet still doing it, was kind of laughable.

But she convinced herself Ethan was right beside her.

"Go to that little warehouse up ahead. Sorry, but you gotta stick with us for a bit.," the driver said, stopping the van in the warehouse, handing Jasmine a bottle of water, and thoughtfully giving her an apple.

Jasmine sat on a dirty stool, lost in thought as she waited.

The kidnappers shared Jasmine's goal: they awaited Ethan. If she was taken and Ethan didn't appear, something serious may have occurred.

Jasmine's fingers trembled, unable to hold the apple.

Not far from the warehouse, Tom sat in his car, anxiously waiting for Jasmine's signal.

Jasmine had said that if she were in danger, she would press the alarm, but she hadn't pressed it yet, which made him even more nervous.

"What's going on? Should we get the cops involved?" Ben asked nervously as he got into the car, looking at Tom.

"No signal yet. Let's wait and see," Tom said, rubbing his temples. "You spoil her too much. How could you agree to such a dangerous plan?"

Ben stayed silent for a long time.

"What if something happens? What were you thinking? You worry about her choking on water, yet you agreed to this dangerous plan?" Tom couldn't understand.

"She's self-harming," Ben said hoarsely, looking down.

Tom was stunned and fell silent too.

Jasmine, battling severe depression, found solace in the baby growing inside her and the slim hope of Ethan's survival.

Last night, he tried calling Jasmine, but she didn't pick up.

When she was alone, she couldn't stop shaking, crying, and hurting herself.

If he hadn't called the nanny to rush over, Jasmine might have drowned herself in the bathtub.

"So, she wants to see if Ethan is really out there. As long as it's safe, let her keep at it. It would be too harsh for her to lose hope otherwise," Ben said softly.

Tom took a deep breath and stayed silent.

All he could do was pray for Ethan to come back soon.

Inside the warehouse, Jasmine sat on the stool, quietly staring at the apple in her hand, waiting. She had no idea how long she'd been there, but Ethan still hadn't shown up.

"Jasmine, maybe you should leave." The kidnappers were getting nervous. Why hadn't anyone come to rescue her yet?

Reporting to Deborah, the kidnappers were secretly scared.

"Sit down," Jasmine said calmly.

The kidnappers froze, looking back at her in confusion.

"Sit back down and wait," Jasmine said, her eyes on the warehouse door.

She hoped the door would burst open, and Ethan would rush in like before, holding her and saying, "Jasmine, don't be afraid. I'm here. I've always been here."

The kidnappers didn't dare move and slowly backed away.

"What does she mean?" one of the lackeys whispered, feeling something was off.

The kidnappers were scared; they just wanted to make some money, not risk their lives.

"Some folks say time heals all wounds. What do you think?" Jasmine asked softly.

The kidnappers stood in the corner, unsure how to answer.

The question was too sudden.

"Ms. Cunningham, maybe we should leave? You can continue thinking about it?" one of the kidnappers suggested.

Jasmine raised her hand. "You brought me here, so it wouldn't be right to just send me off like that, don't you think?"

The kidnappers were shocked.

There was a commotion outside the warehouse, and everyone looked warily as a car rushed in.

Jasmine nervously hoped Ethan would emerge, but when the door opened, it was Connor who got out anxiously.

Jasmine's eyes reddened uncontrollably, and she looked away.

Connor glared coldly at the kidnappers.

The kidnappers turned and ran in fear.

Connor knew Deborah sent them, and the police were waiting for them outside.

"Let's go home," Connor said softly, squatting in front of Jasmine.

Jasmine didn't move, stubbornly sitting there.

She wanted to wait for Ethan.

"Jasmine, time is the best healer," Connor said soothingly.

"Is it?" Jasmine asked bitterly. "How many rounds of MECT therapy have we gone through? I've lost track. Has it actually tackled the root of my pain?"

Connor lowered his head in guilt. "I'm sorry."

He couldn't save him.

But as a doctor, he tried hard to pull her, his patient, his lover, out of the abyss.

"Time might fade surface scars, but it etches the deep ones into your bones," Jasmine said hoarsely. She didn't believe time would naturally heal all wounds.

Without Ethan, she couldn't see the world's joys and sorrows clearly.

In a lively scene, she felt desolate and out of place.

"When will he come back?" Jasmine asked softly, gripping the apple tightly. "Please, Connor. Let him come back."

"Let's go home," Connor said, holding Jasmine's wrist, trying to pull her away.

Jasmine struggled, and as she stood up, the apple fell, and she fainted.

"Jasmine!" Ben and Tom rushed in from outside.

"Something happened, Justin was taken!" Ben said anxiously to Connor.
