Chapter 436 Edgar Was Stunned
"I'll take you to the hospital," Edgar scratched his head awkwardly and spoke softly. "It looks like you hit it pretty hard."
Avery Hawthorne looked Edgar up and down and asked, "How old are you?"
Edgar didn't hear it clearly and replied, "What?"
"I'm asking your age," Avery thought Edgar wasn't very smart.
And there was a look of foolishness in his eyes.
"I'm twenty-eight." Edgar raised an eyebrow, instantly reverting to his usual self.
In nightclubs, when a girl asked a guy's age, it usually meant she was interested. This woman might be doing it on purpose.
Avery squinted. "You're too young."
Edgar got anxious. "I'm not young."
Avery thought Edgar was strange.
"Alright," Avery took off her leather jacket and threw it onto Edgar's car. Underneath, she wore a black spaghetti strap dress, which made her incredibly alluring and hard to look away from.
But what was jarring were the tattoos covering her arms and neck.
At first glance, she looked like a troublemaker.
Edgar was dumbfounded; the tattoos were quite hip-hop.
He gave Avery a thumbs-up, genuinely thinking this woman was not to be messed with and should be avoided.
"Are you free?" Avery tossed her helmet onto Edgar's car as well and asked naturally.
Edgar nodded and his eyes were drawn to Avery's smoky eye makeup.
"Is there a costume party tonight? Or is it Halloween?" Edgar was puzzled.
"A date," Avery said coldly.
Edgar didn't hear clearly.
"Pretend to be my boyfriend. Come on, since you hit me, help me out this once." Avery took the initiative to hug Edgar's arm and affectionately pulled him towards the hotel.
Edgar was still in a daze as he was dragged into the elevator. "Why do you ask me to pretend to be your boyfriend?"
"Because our outfits match," Avery pointed to her black dress, covered in tattoos, and her edgy smoky eye makeup.
Then she looked at Edgar's trendy hip-hop style oversized T-shirt.
Edgar pouted; he had dressed casually because he was planning to take Jasmine out for barbecue.
"When we get there, don't say anything. Just nod at whatever I say, got it?" Avery nudged Edgar with her elbow.
Edgar nodded, but he was puzzled as to why he was being so obedient.
He didn't even know this woman.
But inexplicably, there was something about her that made her hard to resist, a bit like Nolan.
Entering the restaurant, Avery immediately spotted a middle-aged man with a receding hairline by a large bouquet of roses.
"Are you Dennis Reed?" Avery asked then sat directly across from the man.
Edgar felt a bit awkward and sat down beside her.
Dennis's smile faded instantly when he saw Avery's tattoos and smoky eye makeup. "Are you Avery? The eldest daughter of the Hawthorne family?"
"Yes," Avery replied.
“Do you need my papers?” Avery asked.
Dennis waved his hand. "No, that's not necessary."
Out of respect for the Hawthorne family's social status, Dennis held back. "Avery, and this is...?"
"This is my boyfriend," Avery said directly.
"Boyfriend? You know today is a date, right?" Dennis was taken aback.
"Yes, I know. We're just getting married for the alliance. Marriage and love are two different things. That's what you told my aunt," Avery sneered.
"Men and women are different," Dennis said, somewhat displeased. "Avery, your aunt introduced you to me saying you were gentle, that after marriage, you would focus on taking care of the children and family. We can have a child after we get married."
After thinking for a moment, Dennis spoke again. "Get rid of all those tattoos. A woman should be gentle. "
Dennis continued, and his frown clearly indicated he was unhappy. "After we get married, you need to cut off all ties with these men."
Edgar felt innocent, wondering why he was being dragged into this.
"My boyfriend is 6'2", weighs 158 pounds, has broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and a nice butt. We have a harmonious sex life and great chemistry in bed. I'm not cutting him off," Avery said bluntly, making Edgar break out in a cold sweat.
How did this woman know his height and weight? They had never slept together before.
"You!" Dennis's face turned pale with anger. "He's just a fling. Our families are a perfect match. You should know what I can bring to the Hawthorne family."
Edgar ordered a cup of coffee, intending to drink it slowly, but Dennis's excessive behavior made him unable to help but speak up. "Sir, you shouldn't belittle me while talking to her."
Dennis was furious. "You have no right to speak to me. Do you know who I am?"
Edgar shook his head. "Why should I know who you are?"
"You!" Dennis was enraged. "I was born into the upper ten. Have you ever heard of the Reed Real Estate? It's all mine."
Edgar smirked, realizing he was dealing with someone from the Reed family, a bunch of scoundrels. "No wonder you're so fat."
Avery burst out laughing.
Dennis was livid, standing up and pointing at Edgar. "I'll kill you."
As he spoke, Dennis picked up an ashtray, ready to throw it at Edgar.
Avery's eyes darkened, and she kicked the table, knocking the man over.
Then she calmly tied up her long hair then walked over to the man. She grabbed his collar to talk with him.
"I heard your ex-wife was hospitalized due to your domestic violence and hasn't fully recovered yet. Looks like you haven't been out to see the world; you think you're Mike Tyson or something," Avery said, landing a punch with impressive skill.
Dennis screamed in pain. "Avery, you crazy woman! You're thirty-one and still single. You're an old hag."
Avery grabbed Dennis's hair and slammed his head into the ground.
Instantly, blood gushed from his nose. "Do you know why I agreed to this blind date with someone like you? Because your ex-wife is my good friend."
Avery's eyes darkened, her voice filled with intense anger. "I came here today to give you a taste of what it's like to be beaten."
Edgar was stunned by Avery's actions. Looking around, he noticed the restaurant was likely reserved by Avery; there were no other guests, and neither the waitstaff nor security intervened.
"I'm calling the police! I'm calling the police to arrest you!" Dennis shouted.
Avery laughed, looking at a nearby waiter.
"The restaurant's surveillance is down. Please continue," the waiter said.
Avery raised an eyebrow and looked at Edgar. "No cameras. Do you want to hit him?"
Edgar felt a chill down his spine and quickly shook his head. "No."
Avery kicked Dennis unconscious, took a deep breath to calm herself, and sat down on the sofa.
"He'll probably call the police when he wakes up," Edgar kindly reminded her.
