Chapter 578: Something Happened to Richard

Jasmine's phone buzzed; it was Richard.

"Hold up, it's Richard," Jasmine said, eager to pick up, totally missing what Ethan just said.

Ethan started to speak, then just facepalmed.

Would Jasmine flip out if he told her?

He'd promised her no more lies. Did this count as a little white lie?

"Jasmine, Betty got hit and she's in the hospital. I'm outta town, and it'll take me three hours to get back. Can you go check on her?" Richard's voice was all panicky.

Jasmine was all over the place. "I'm heading over right now! Is Betty okay?"

"They said she's fine, but I'm still freaking out." Richard was losing it.

"Richard, chill, I'm on my way," Jasmine said, slipping on her shoes. "Where are you anyway?"

"Arnold sent me to Boston for a meeting," Richard said, sounding like he was driving.

"Alright, Richard, drive safe. I'll get to the hospital."

Jasmine hung up and looked at Ethan. "Betty got hit and she's in the hospital. I'm going to check on her. You take Justin and Joe to the meeting with Brandon. We can't miss it, or he might team up with Claire, and that'd suck."

Jasmine wanted Ethan to take the kids to show Brandon they were serious, to keep him from working with Claire.

Ethan wanted to say something, but Jasmine was already out the door.

Jasmine thought, 'Betty better be okay.'

At Capital Hospital, Betty was on the bed asking the doc, "Am I okay?"

"Everything looks normal, but you've got some old injuries and issues. You used to have bad menstrual pain, so you need to be extra careful," the doc said, hooking her up to an IV.

Betty sighed and leaned back, talking to Richard, who was speeding back. "You heard the doc, I'm fine. Why are you rushing back? Drive safe."

Even though she sounded a bit annoyed, Betty felt warm inside.

Outside, Aleah knocked and apologized. "Miss Willer, I'm sorry, I..."

Betty glared at Aleah. "You got the nerve to show up? Get out!"

Today's business partner had weirdly brought Aleah along and Aleah tried to push her down the stairs. Luckily, she was quick.

Otherwise, who knew what would've happened.

"Miss Willer. I really didn't mean to," Aleah said, eyes all teary.

"Didn't mean to?" Betty scoffed. "You made sure there were no cameras, huh? Getting smarter."

Aleah just looked down, saying nothing.

"There's no one else here, so drop the act. What do you really want?" Betty frowned.

Aleah was quiet for a long time before kneeling at the door.

The bodyguards blocked her from coming in.

Betty was so shocked she almost jumped out of bed. What was she doing?

"You have everything. You're rich, got men, and now a kid. Can you give Richard back to me? I know you don't really love him. Why can't you just let him go?" Aleah cried.

Betty had seen shameless people before, but this was next level.

Her shamelessness was off the charts.

"Who do you think you are? Are you out of mind?" Betty shot a look at the bodyguards by the door. "Take her to the psych ward for a check-up."

The bodyguards tried to drag Aleah away, but she just knelt there, bawling her eyes out, drawing a crowd.

She wanted everyone to think Betty had stolen her man.

Jasmine rushed over and saw the commotion, with Aleah putting on a show at the door.

"Her again?" Jasmine dashed into the room, looking at Betty with worry. "You okay?"

Betty shook her head and smiled. "Richard's making a mountain out of a molehill. I didn't even plan to tell him. That woman pushed me on purpose and then called Richard first, freaking him out. He's rushing back."

Jasmine let out a breath. Betty was fine, but she still had a bad feeling.

Aleah and Sophia were both schemers. With Richard confirmed as Arnold's son and publicly acknowledged, LY's value skyrocketed. They wouldn't let him go easily.

"Aleah, being too malicious will get you punished!" Jasmine snapped, glaring at Aleah. She wasn't great at arguing and would just get all red-faced.

She needed more practice.

Betty gave Aleah a cold stare. "Don't waste your energy. Instead of pulling this crap in front of me, think about how you're gonna live from now on."

Aleah knelt there, crying for what felt like forever.

She was putting on a pitiful act.

After a while, Aleah stood up. "I'm sorry, Miss Willer."

Betty glared at her. "Next time you go out, have Sophia put a leash on you so you don't bite people everywhere."

Aleah gritted her teeth and ran off, still crying.

"Why is she playing the victim here?" Jasmine found Aleah's behavior baffling but knew it wasn't without reason. "Betty, I have a feeling she and Sophia are up to something."

Betty laughed. Jasmine had learnt something.

"Did the doc check you out thoroughly? Are you really okay? Any injuries or discomfort?" Jasmine asked, checking and touching Betty all over.

Betty looked relaxed. "Only you can grope me without making Richard jealous."

Jasmine blushed at Betty's words and only relaxed when she saw Betty was really okay. "Betty, you gotta be careful when you go out. Obvious dangers are easy to dodge, but hidden ones are tricky."

Betty nodded. "Got it."

Betty felt that even though Jasmine and Richard weren't blood-related, they really seemed like real siblings, nagging in the same way.

Jasmine sat by the bed, continuing to nag.

Betty leaned back against the headboard, her mind a bit unsettled.

Sophia and Aleah were definitely plotting something.

Aleah ran off crying, entered the stairwell, walked down a few floors, and then carefully took out her phone to call Sophia. "Sophia, I pushed Betty like you said and called Richard. He's totally freaking out."

"Good." Sophia laughed.

"Sophia, don't really hurt Richard," Aleah said, worried.

"He's my son. I know what I'm doing. I found an expert who can make him forget Betty and only remember you. Then, it's up to you," Sophia said with a smile.
