Chapter 81 Ethan Refused Jasmine's Request

Ethan furrowed his brow, even if he was slow on the uptake, he understood what Jasmine meant.
He intended to use her as a shield.
She wanted him to be her sugar daddy.
To become his clandestine lover.
In truth, Jasmine wasn't naive. Once things got romantic between a man and a woman, it was hard to define their relationship.
Naturally, he had to protect her, Justin, and Richard, as it was a small matter within his capabilities.
"I didn't lie." Since Ethan was still remaining silent, Jasmine's eyes reddened. "Those rumors, they're not true. Besides Henry... there's no one else."
Furrowing his brow, Ethan picked up the test results and glanced at them; the results were from a hospital in Boston.
Clearly, Henry's assistant had taken her there for STD screenings.
To be honest, these tests were somewhat insulting.
"I won't touch one of Henry's women." Ethan tossed the test results onto the table.
Jasmine lowered her head and tears began welling up in her eyes.
She just...
It was just that one time, and it was involuntarily. Would she have to bear a stigma for life?
"You don't need to resort to such methods. You have value to me, not in that way. I will protect you, Justin, and Richard, so you don't need to make these plans." Ethan spoke again.
Jasmine said nothing, feeling so ashamed she wanted to disappear into the ground.
She tried to temporarily bind Ethan with these means, but he simply wasn't interested in her.
He might even... be disgusted by the thought of touching her.
"I'm sorry." Trembling, Jasmine took back the medical report and put it back in her bag.
"Let's eat." Ethan suggested Jasmine eat.
Jasmine forced down a few bites, but after that, she didn't say another word.
"Jasmine, I need a personal assistant by my side. I'll have Liam arrange your salary. Adjust your state of mind and go to the HR department for an interview. Seize this opportunity." Ethan mentioned as they left the restaurant.
He already understood Jasmine's temperament; she was strong-willed with an even stronger sense of pride.
She definitely wouldn't accept direct money, but she might accept a job.
Before the incident, Jasmine got into Stanford University as the top student in Silverlight City, so she was definitely talented.
Now that she was out of prison, it was time for her to gain some experience.
Jasmine looked at Ethan with intense eyes, seeming somewhat excited. "I... I will make the most of it. Thank you, Mr. Douglas."
Ethan didn't say anything else. He had the driver take Jasmine back and then left.
Jasmine stood in place, watching Ethan's car drive away.
Ethan seemed different from everyone else.
At the very least, he seemed to respect her.
With a bitter smile, Jasmine mocked her pitiful pride.
"Are you Jasmine?"
As Jasmine turned to leave, a woman stepped out of a car that had been parked in the yard for some time.
The woman was beautiful and had slightly pale skin, giving her a sickly beauty.
"Who are you?" Jasmine was wary.
"I'm Harper, Zelda's sister." Harper's voice was soft, and she had a hint of redness in the corners of her eyes. "I'm sorry if I startled you; I'm not here to harm you, don't be afraid."
Jasmine was scared and wanted to escape, but from Harper's demeanor, it seemed like she wasn't there to harm her.
"I'm very sorry; I just heard about what my sister did to you. I'm truly sorry, and I apologize to you on her behalf." Harper bowed to Jasmine with red eyes.
Jasmine evaded in panic, unable to bear it.
"What... what do you want? I won't drop the charges, and I won't settle privately. I won't..." Jasmine shook her head; she wouldn't agree no matter what methods they used.
"You misunderstand. I really didn't come to ask you to drop the charges. My parents did something wrong." Harper comforted softly. "Actually, I just wanted to meet you."
Harper wore a white dress, her entire demeanor seemed ethereal and otherworldly.
She carefully rolled up her sleeves, revealing two pristine arms covered in countless scars from self-harm.
Jasmine was stunned, shocked to see the daughter of the Brown family with such scars.
"Jasmine, the reason I wanted to meet you is because I know... We're both in the same boat; we're both sick." Harper's voice was gentle. "I'm sorry; I saw the video of them bullying you."
Jasmine avoided eye contact.
"I've also experienced bullying in school, and I've... been forced under unwilling circumstances by someone I didn't even know. These past few years, I've been living in torment, always thinking about liberation." Harper shared similar experiences with Jasmine.
Jasmine was shocked; the illustrious lady of the Brown family had gone through such things too?
"But recently, my condition has improved because I discovered that the person who dragged me into hell was actually the man I loved the most, and it seems... everything is worth it." Harper smiled shyly, her cheeks slightly blushing.
Jasmine could tell she must truly love that man.
"Jasmine, I hope you can come out like I did. Emerge from the darkness and try to accept those who once hurt us." Harper smiled like a blooming white lotus flower.
"Huh... accept those who hurt me? Does that mean all the harm I've suffered was deserved?" Jasmine couldn't understand Harper.
"No, Jasmine, you misunderstand. What I mean is... clinging to the past is a permanent injury to you." Harper shook her head in explanation.
"While others throw mud at us, we can grow lotus flowers from that mud." Harper approached, wanting to hold Jasmine's hand. "Jasmine, try to forgive yourself."
Jasmine felt like Harper was now being overly kind.
"I can't grow lotus flowers from the mud people throw at me because I'm already rotting in the mud." Jasmine took a step back. "Miss Brown, please go back. No matter what you say, I won't drop the charges."
"Jasmine, there’s one hundred thousand in this card. Consider it a small compensation from me on behalf of my sister. Can you accept it? Otherwise... I'll feel guilty." Harper looked at Jasmine.
Jasmine furrowed her brow. "I won't take your money. The harm Zelda caused me can't be measured in money."
"Jasmine... I really like you, and I empathize. Can we be friends? I'll convince my parents not to trouble you again." Harper looked at Jasmine with teary eyes, appearing aggrieved.
Jasmine couldn't quite understand Harper's intentions.
Be friends with her?
Was this Harper truly kind, or was there something wrong with her mind?
"I don't need..."
"Jasmine, I may have been too presumptuous today, and I must have scared you. Don't rush to refuse; I'll come to see you often. I hope we can become the best of friends; I'll protect you." Harper interrupted Jasmine, smiling as she hugged her.
Jasmine's body stiffened, feeling that Harper was truly too naive.
Friends?
She couldn't shake the feeling that Harper had ulterior motives.
