Chapter 485 Jasmine Shows Off That She Has Four Brothers

Samuel looked at Jasmine and burst out laughing. "Seriously? We're in business; we follow the money. You ask if we'll be enemies? Depends on what you can offer me."

Jasmine stayed quiet. Samuel was right; business is all about profit. No permanent friends, just permanent interests.

Seeing her silence, Samuel felt a bit guilty and decided to ease up. He didn't want to make her cry.

"But Deborah, as the Hawthorne family's illegitimate daughter, isn't as valuable as the Cunningham family's heiress," Samuel said, trying to comfort her.

Jasmine thought for a moment, then smiled brightly. "Yeah, I have four brothers."

Samuel felt a chill. Was she threatening him?

"Big deal. I have brothers too," Samuel replied.

Jasmine was curious. "How many? More than mine?"

Samuel chuckled. "Not as many. I have one brother and one cousin."

Jasmine nodded. "I have four brothers."

Samuel was exasperated. "Okay, I get it! I won't betray you."

Jasmine laughed. "And a husband."

Samuel paused. "Didn't you get divorced?"

Jasmine, knowing Samuel had done his homework, said, "We just got remarried a few days ago."

"You don't leave any room for others," Samuel said, gritting his teeth.

Jasmine was making it clear they were just friends and business partners, nothing more.

"My husband is Ethan," she added, looking pleased.

Suddenly, Samuel lost his appetite. "You've ruined my appetite."

Was Ethan really worth bragging about?

"Ethan is amazing," Jasmine continued.

"If he were that amazing, you wouldn't need me," Samuel muttered.

"The Douglas family is bullying him," Jasmine said, taking a bite of spicy Mexican food. Her face turned red; she couldn't handle the heat.

"Drink up," Samuel said, seeing her struggle. He quickly poured her a glass of iced cola.

Jasmine took a sip and felt better. "That was so spicy. How do you handle it?"

Samuel looked at her with disdain. "You're too weak."

"Spiciness is pain. You must be a masochist," Jasmine retorted.

"You're sharp-tongued," Samuel laughed, handing her some non-spicy food. "If you can't handle it, stick to the mild stuff."

Outside, someone snapped photos of them, making it look like they were close.

After their meal, they went to LY.

The company was small but clean and organized.

"Hello, do you have an appointment?" the receptionist asked, smiling. She was new and didn't recognize Jasmine.

Jasmine rarely visited.

"I am—"

"Ms. Cunningham!" Liam rushed over before she could finish. "Why didn't you tell us you were coming?"

Jasmine laughed. Liam was being dramatic.

With his shout, everyone knew she was a major shareholder.

"I brought Samuel to tour our company. He's decided to invest," Jasmine said, blushing.

Liam looked excited. "Mr. Long, long time no see."

Samuel remained expressionless, pretending not to know Liam.

Liam wasn't bothered and eagerly showed them around. "Come on, let me give you a tour. This is the common area for relaxation, and over here are the finance and HR departments."

Samuel looked around, appearing very serious.

Jasmine felt relieved. It seemed Samuel was genuinely interested in investing.

Liam discreetly gave Jasmine a thumbs-up.

Ethan had tried multiple times to persuade Samuel to invest, but it never worked. Jasmine managed to secure Samuel's interest right away.

"Long time no see," Deborah said, emerging from the project department with some documents, looking busy.

Seeing Jasmine, Deborah smiled and greeted her.

Jasmine smiled back. For now, they were allies, not enemies.

But Jasmine sensed it was only a matter of time before they clashed.

"I heard you're interning here, Jasmine. Join our project department. I've seen your work at the Cunningham Group; it's good but could use some improvement. You'll learn more with me," Deborah said with a smile.

Her words seemed kind, but given their rivalry, they had a different undertone.

Samuel glanced at Deborah, then at Jasmine. Jasmine, being straightforward, was no match for someone like Deborah.

Sighing, Samuel said, "She doesn't need to follow anyone. We'll work on projects together."

Deborah looked at Samuel, momentarily stunned, then smiled. "Big companies usually have A, B, and C teams in their project departments, but we currently—"

"I think you can handle an independent department. Jasmine and I will form Team B. Competition breeds motivation," Samuel said with a faint smile.

In a stagnant pond, salmon die quickly. Only by introducing a shark can the fish become active.

Jasmine was wary of Deborah, fearing she would dominate the project department.

Forming a new project team, Team B, would prevent Deborah from taking the entire department with her in the future, causing LY's project department to collapse.

They needed to stay vigilant. Since Jasmine was cautious, as her ally, Samuel had to think ahead for her.

Jasmine looked at Samuel in surprise. This was her idea too, but if she suggested it, it would seem arrogant. However, Samuel, as a new investor and shareholder, had the right to form a new project team.

Deborah looked at them with a half-smile.

Jasmine knew how to find allies. That was impressive.

But if Jasmine thought that finding a fresh graduate would make them win, she was mistaken.

Deborah smiled with some excitement. She was looking forward to the challenge.

In the capital hospital, Evan tried to get out of bed, but his leg still hurt badly.

"Evan, I'm your mother, and you called the police on me!" Karen burst into Evan's ward, looking deranged.

Evan looked at Karen coldly. "You're crazy. I should send you to a mental hospital."

"Evan, I'm your mother. I gave birth to you. I went through hell to bring you into this world, and this is how you treat me!" Karen tried to use their familial bond to make him submit. "You are my son. Everything I did was for you."

"Stop!" Evan lost control and yelled at Karen. "You ruined me! You gave birth to me but didn't raise me properly."

"How dare you yell at me! I'm your mother." Karen stepped forward, intending to hit Evan.

But her hand didn't land on Evan's face; Evelina caught it from behind. "You're not a good mother. You have no right to discipline him!"
