Chapter 157 Justin and Ethan's Paternity Test
"Mr. Ethan, your meals are all prepared according to the highest standards and brought up to you. Why would you want to come down and eat..." Liam murmured under his breath.
It was impossible to have a peaceful meal with him and Jasmine.
"From now on, Jasmine will eat with me. I've been busy with work recently and can't be left alone," Ethan said in a deep voice.
Liam took a deep breath; the boat of kinship was indeed capricious. "Mr. Ethan, count me in! I'll have dinner with you."
The chefs cooking for Ethan were all from Michelin-starred restaurants, not something just anyone could enjoy.
"Go to the bathroom," Ethan instructed Liam.
"What for?" Liam asked, puzzled.
"Look in the mirror."
Jasmine nearly choked on her food.
She bowed her head, trying to hold back laughter while eating her rice.
Liam, feeling slighted, hung his head low and focused on his meal.
...
Harper met with Henry at the clubhouse.
"Mr. Henry, our families are united through marriage, a bond acknowledged publicly at a press conference. We share both honor and misfortune," Harper said to Henry. "Regardless of whether you and Zelda have a foundation of affection, you are her fiance, her future husband, and you should protect her.
"As for Justin, no matter if the child belongs to the Patrick family or not, you and Zelda will certainly have your own children in the future."
Henry lounged on the sofa, looking at Harper. "Is the esteemed Ms. Harper visiting today to ask me to talk to Ethan again?"
"That's your obligation," Harper said, maintaining her gaze on Henry.
Henry looked at her intently. "It seems you are losing sight of the situation."
Harper furrowed her brow.
"My son shares my blood, Zelda is merely a fiancee," Henry reminded Harper, implying that without any value to him, Zelda meant nothing.
"Mr. Henry, the Browns and the Patricks go way back. You can't just stand by." Harper took a deep breath. "This time, it's the Browns asking for your help."
Finally, Harper dropped the haughty missus act. She was here to seek Henry's assistance, after all.
"Then, Ms. Harper, why don't we have a proper talk about your relationship with Ethan?" Henry sat up straight, his gaze intense as he looked at Harper.
"As far as I know, six years ago, you were seen in Ethan's room, but Ethan... It seems he never returned to his room," Henry spoke with weighted meaning.
These last few days, he had been in Silverlight City, having people investigate the events of six years past.
What he needed to determine was the identity of the person who left Jasmine's room six years ago.
That person was Justin's biological father.
He had to find out who Justin's real father was before Justin's background came to light.
Only then could he prepare for what was to come.
"Mr. Henry, you are investigating me..." Harper's fingers clenched tightly in an instant.
"I don't have the patience to belabor the point with you," Henry warned Harper.
Harper understood Henry's capabilities and fell silent for a long time. "You're right... He didn't return to his room. But Ethan doesn't know that. He thinks he did go back, so he has always believed that I was the one with him that night."
She knew she couldn't keep secrets from Henry.
But Henry would definitely not expose her because she still had value to him.
"Whose room did Ethan enter?" Henry asked with a furrowed brow, his voice low.
Now, he was afraid that Ethan was the one who had gone into Jasmine's room that night.
"I'm not sure." Harper shook her head. "I also had it looked into. That evening, the only other woman staying on the same floor was the actress Peipei, but Peipei and Ethan didn't seem to have that kind of relationship. If it were Peipei, she wouldn't have kept it from Ethan."
Henry, of course, had discovered as much.
"Is there a chance Ethan went to a different floor?" That night, Ethan's drink has been drugged—it was entirely possible he got the floors and rooms mixed up.
"It's been too long; we can't investigate it again," Harper replied with a shake of her head.
"If we can't find out, Ethan won't be able to either. As long as he remains in the dark, I'll stand by my story, and he won't have a leg to stand on unless the woman comes forward to set the record straight. Perhaps, the woman got pregnant with Ethan's child on that one occasion," Harper spoke up again.
Otherwise, it would just be her.
Ethan would owe her for a lifetime.
"It's been six years, if that woman had any sort of cunning, she would've come forward to clarify things by now. I bet the woman who actually had something with Ethan probably doesn't even know his real identity," Harper said, looking at Henry.
Henry's expression turned even uglier.
What he feared most right now was that Ethan had entered Jasmine's room.
Coincidences like that just don't happen in the real world.
Rubbing the bridge of his nose, Henry spoke with a serious tone. "If you're set on getting Ethan, I suggest you do it quickly, and without hurting Jasmine or the kids. Make her leave him."
This was to avoid complicating matters further.
"You mean..." Harper was smart and grasped what Henry meant instantly.
She gasped in shock. "Are you suggesting that Justin might be Ethan's child?"
"Justin is my son," Henry stated firmly.
Harper furrowed her brows and fell silent.
"Zelda went too far this time, not even sparing the child. It seems the detention didn't teach her a lesson. If Ethan is set on getting even with her, no one can help her. If your Brown family wants to protect itself, I suggest you cut your losses," Henry warned sternly and got up to leave.
Harper took a deep breath, realizing Henry was suggesting the Browns give up on Zelda.
As long as the Browns came forward with Zelda's wrongdoings and sent her abroad, Henry would surely take advantage of the situation to call off the engagement.
But if they didn't, and Ethan released this information, it would be a disastrous blow to the Browns, and Henry would still call off the engagement with Zelda.
That would drag both the Browns and her down with them.
If the Brown family fell, it would truly be the end.
Cutting their losses seemed like the only option now.
What a fool Zelda was.
Even though Zelda was her own sister, Harper couldn't afford to care about that now.
It was every man for himself, and heaven and earth be damned.
Sitting on the couch in silence for a long time, Harper dialed Zelda's number with her icy fingers. "Can you find a way to get some of Henry's hair?"
"Harper, he doesn't even want to see me." Zelda sounded desperate. "What should I do, what should I do?"
"I'll figure something out, you just get yourself a ticket to the States and leave tomorrow," Harper instructed Zelda to leave Silverlight City.
"Harper!" Zelda refused to go.
"Do you want to destroy the Brown family, or would you rather hide out for a few years?" Harper reminded Zelda.
"Why should I..." Zelda was resentful.
"Because he's Ethan!" Harper said angrily.
Zelda was terrified into silence. Whoever crossed Ethan rarely had a happy ending.
If Ethan truly decided to move against the Brown family, they stood no chance at all.
"Harper, please help me. I don't want to call off my engagement with Henry," Zelda cried.
"Now, you want to beg for mercy? Why didn't you think before you act?" Harper questioned, massaging her temples. "Henry is definitely going to break the engagement, but you could go abroad to hide for a while. Once Ethan gets tired of Jasmine and this incident cools off, you can come back. At least the Brown family can be saved."
Zelda sobbed on the other end of the phone.
Harper, exasperated, hung up the call.
With trembling fingers, she took out a cigarette, lit it for herself, her heart pounding fiercely.
Henry's words today were clearly not without deeper intent.
It seemed she needed to do more than just have a paternity test between Justin and Henry; she also had to test Justin's hair against Ethan's for a paternity match.
